...See more It might not seem like much, but putting pen to paper and writing down our thoughts and feelings can do wonders for our well-being. When we journal, we create a safe and private space where we can express ourselves freely and without judgment. This can be especially helpful if we find it hard to share our feelings with others. Journaling also helps us gain clarity and perspective on our thoughts and emotions. We can identify patterns in our thinking and behavior, which can help us recognize triggers and make positive changes in our lives. It can also be a powerful tool to manage stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges. By writing down our worries and concerns, we can release some of the tension we're carrying around and feel more at ease. 7 Cups has recently launched a Journals & Diaries community and we’re kicking off the launch with a fun challenge you can join! To start and maintain a journaling practice, we are launching a One Line A Day Challenge, where you are invited to journal only one line a day, for 1 month (or more!). Here’s how to join in: * Subscribe to the Journals & Diaries subcommunity at 7 Cups by clicking “Join”. * Consider taking the Flourishing Assessment [https://www.7cups.com/assessment/Flourishing] before you begin the challenge to get a sense of how well you are thriving. This free assessment helps you get insight on your strengths too! * Click the “One Line A Day” topic on the right-hand side of the Journals & Diaries community homepage. Create a thread for your journaling journey. ...See more Hi !! I am going through a difficult time in life and needed a space to vent. I have a couple of friends who undertand what I am going though and an incredibly supportive but super-critical family. I am thankful for everyone who has stood by me over the last one year. I have turned to 7cups many many times during the past year for refuge and comfort. I am going through a breakup. That point where you know there is no point in continuing this relationship but you just don't feel like ending it yet. Not because you expect things will get better but because it means that the hopes, dreams and plans are discarded forever. Like a patient on the ventilator whose organs have failed and who is brain dead. There is no hope for recovery. But you hesitate before unplugging the ventilator. (this analogy may sound a little weird, but I am a healthcare worker). It hurts to look at old pictures and messages. The house that I had arranged and set up with plans of living together for years. That I had to leave one day because I didn't feel comfortable or safe there. All of those days that I thought this was a phase in the relationship, that things would get better eventually. Dealing with neighbours and friends who would ask questions trying to figure out what's happening (nosy neighbours!!!). And now dealing with grief. People telling me that everyone has problems irritates me !!!! I know everyone has problems, but this breakup happened after I had quit my job and didn't have a place of my own to live... with the uncertainty during the pandemic. I lived with family members and missed having a place of my own. Listening to family members planning their pregnancy or looking at small children playing on the street makes me focus on the fact that this is something that may never happen for me. And that hurts. I have been passionate and prioritized my career for most of my adult life. I did manage to find a new job and it will be a major transition. A part of me is looking forward to it. But I also find myself questioning those decisions whether all that is worth it if I end up alone. In the country where I grew up, people can be conservative. And now I am in another country living with a sibling. I don't have friends or contacts here since I just moved here. My support system gave me advice and suggestions, but refused to sit with me during the appointments. When I felt that references from contacts and friends would help, they refused to post on groups, because it would affect them somehow and tarnish their image ? I don't know. They refuse to even acknowledge / mention this breakup among their friends when this comes up in conversations. But I am expected to be cheerful and happy because "everyone has their own problems". And when I was asked unnecessary intrusive and personal questions during one of those appointments, in stead of saying that they crossed a line, I was told by my support system that you are too shy !! you were not clear enough and your explanation for why you made a decison to end this relationship is not adequate!!! Friends have helped. Music and exercise helps too. I will start my new job in two months. I will move to a new city, and this job will be very hectic. The two months before are my time to relax, but also to grieve. I am hoping that this transition will be for the better, that I will make new friends and build a new life.

...See more Today I went out with my partner to have a little fun. We've both been so cooped up and worried about money- it's time for a little break. So we drove up to a big city. He wanted to stop to "get something for me." He said he knows I've needed "it" for weeks and he wanted to make this trip worthwhile. He came back with shoes! Definitely needed them- I've glued my shoes so many times I've lost count. But now the whole shoe is peeling away from the sole entirely. But-- they weren't what I was expecting. I'm 34. And my taste is still very much the same as I was in high school. But that's not always to my benefit because flashy or cute is not always also sustainable and comfortable. I'm 34 and feet health is very important to me. But being cheap af is always my default. Y'all...this man spent $80 on orthopedic shoes for me.  And I felt...frustrated. Because they're not flashy. They're not ugly but they're plain mesh. And they're the kind you just step into. I was annoyed because I'm not old yet! I can bend down! I don't make big, boisterous grunts when I stand or sit! And there's no shoelaces because of that- it's elastic. And I was annoyed at myself too because it was a present and here I am acting like a baby because they're not covered in logos or colors or fancy stitching.  But this guy...was so patient with me. He pointed out how cool they actually are. They have a heel cradle to promote walking and ankle health. They have a tall toebox because my 2nd toes are a little longer than my big toes. They're very breathable so there's no excess sweat AND if they do get stinky, they're designed to throw in a washing machine. It's memory foam so eventually all my toes get their own spaces when I break the shoe in which is great because I have a wide foot. And the more I thought about it...the more I felt sentimental toward this shoe. Because I've had shoes that bruise and cut off circulation, dig at the heel and cause callouses on spots that aren't normal. And of course- they were all either flashy or cheap.  You know, my partner is younger than me. So I thought initially this was a jab (Especially when he said that thing about "My grandpa has these shoes and he loves them." 😅) But he also said he's probably going to get himself a pair when his wear through (maybe a year or less). And I can tell he means it too- because he matches me whenever we get anything of quality. We have the same coat and it looks dweeby whenever we go anywhere. But it's sweet. So, I'm wearing them tonight at work and they feel so nice. And I'm accepting that even though I'm older, most of my problem with them was a mindset. But taking care of yourself physically should always come first. And it's very sweet that he would remind me to be practical. And they're actually kinda cool. PS. I'm knitting him a scarf tonight to help his ear health in the winter. He picked out his own colors and he's excited. 💑
