Academy Leadership Meeting April 2023

User Profile: Hope
Hope April 21st, 2023

Hi everyone! I hope you are doing well. It is time for us to gather for another meet-up! This is our monthly academy team get-together. Typically we would have chatroom meetings followed by a forum activity to be more inclusive of time zones. However as this week, it is Eid for some of us including myself, therefore it is challenging to have a chatroom meet-up. We will still have a forum meet-up!

In this forum get-together, we will continue to get to know each other with a focus on what everyone celebrates.

  1. Which holiday/festival do you celebrate?

  2. What is your favorite part of the festival?

  3. Please take a minute to submit this short form!

I look forward to hearing from all of you!

Eid Mubarak! Hope you enjoyed the holiday/festival😊

1. Which holiday/festival do you celebrate?

My family members are of different religions so we celebrate all the religion based festivals. We celebrated Easter and made some cute eggs and then Eid Mubarak as well!

2."What is your favorite part of the festival?

My favourite part of celebrating festivals is the inclusivity and the harmony that can be between religions and I am licky to be born in such an environment ❤️ I love how we respect each other through celebrating all festivals and congratulating each other of them.

1. Durga Puja is a grand traditional festival of our city which got recognition from UNESCO last year . People from all parts of the world come to India to witness our rich culture of Durga Puja. According to the Hindu Mythology , this festival is celebrated in the honour of our Goddess Durga who once slayed a pathetic monster called Mahisasur and proved that no evil can win against positive energy , love and kindness and that the good always gets to smile at the end . It is a 4-5day festival and we all wear new clothes each day . The entire city gets decorated with lights and pandals with models of Goddess Durga made through astonishing art forms and cultural themes . At the end of the festival , the entire city meets at a carnival where we even receive renowed figures worldwide including guests from UNESCO who visits the carnival to witness the epic festival carnival .

2. The best part of the festival is that I get to meet with my friends and together we go out for pandal-hopping all day , have sumptous meals and dress up all nice to get *** worthy shots but instead end up making a bunch of memes 😂 . We meet with our families and relatives and spend those four days doing a lot of fun ! ❤️

Besides Durga Puja , Christmas is a festival I eagrly wait for an entire year ! The best part part of Christmas for me is the time I spend with people at orphanages , old-age homes and animal homes ...... that reminds me once again of how grateful I am for the life I am living . ❤️

Hi Hope! Thank you for hosting this get-together!

  1. Which holiday/festival do you celebrate?

Coming from a really diverse country, I get to celebrate actual dozens of festivals and holidays all year round! But the most prominent ones among them are- Holi, Diwali, Dussehra, Rakshabandhan, Sharad Purnima, and Bargadi Amavasya among others!

  2. What is your favorite part of the festival?

All of these festivals are celebrated for vastly different reasons but one common thing that I absolutely love about these festivals is how they bring all my favorite people together under one roof. I love how vibrant everything gets all of a sudden and everyone is in the mood for merry-making! Ever since moving out of my home, I only get to see my family periodically, and festivals give me a break from my life away from them, and go back to enjoy their company.

  1. Which holiday/festival do you celebrate? New Year's Day, Valentine's Day, the local town fiesta, Christmas, and New Year's Eve.

The local town fiesta is coming up right now and I'm excited! "Fiesta" originated in the older years of the Philippines when almost everyone worked in farms. Fiesta was the time when the crops had yielded harvest. Traditionally, rich people shared their food with poor people during a fiesta. They also welcomed travelers to their houses and gave them delicious foods to take home. Some provinces still follow that tradition up to this day, but here in the city where we no longer farm, we just have street dancing, band parades, and colorful decorations. My town also used to hold ati-atihan performances in the town center. "Ati-atihan" is a Filipino war dance where dancers dance to tribal drums wearing tribal clothes, usually demonstrating weapons and war moves. The official Ati-atihan Festival takes place in January in Aklan, but my town has its own version that takes place on May 1. My town stopped doing those performances during the pandemic, but I hope they get back to it this year because watching ati-atihan is super fun!

The Philippines is known for having the longest Christmas season. Google actually said Christmas in the Philippines starts in September and ends in February. That includes New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, and Valentine's Day (which not only couples celebrate, but also families).

  2. What is your favorite part of the festival?

My favorite part of the local town fiesta is the ati-atihan, so I hope they have it this year.

My favorite part of Christmas is the food. And also the decorations. The Christmas balls in Christmas trees sparkle like magic, the Christmas lights make nights bright, and the fireworks are hypnotizing. Then on Valentine's Day, everything turns red/pink with balloons, roses, and candies.
