How do you get motivated for difficult tasks?
@Hope I would try to break down the tasks by writing them down as a list just so I can visually see what I can prioritize first. Being organized helps me feel less overwhelmed and more driven to tackle on the project as a whole.
@Hope Acknowledge, pick a time, start
Acknowledge that the task is difficult. That you probably don’t want to do it. And that it’s not going to get done unless you start. Finally, acknowledge that you don’t know how it will turn out but that you’ll try your best.
If you have a choice, pick a time when you are well rested have the most mental energy.
Starting can actually provide the motivation. I was told that motivation comes from doing, not from wishing it to be there. If you start something then completing small parts can be the inertia to keep you going. When you get through your hard task you’ll be emboldened for the next one.

How do you get motivated for difficult tasks?
- If the task is really difficult
and I'm resisting it,
sometimes I join-up with a
free tasking group online
and we all meet on zoom.
Then I explain my task.
And then after others explain their tasks,
we all go on-mute and do our tasks.
Then we check-in after a while,
and we all explain our progress.
Then we all go back on-mute
and keep working on our tasks.
Then at the end of the zoom session,
we explain how we did on our tasks.
- I find the social-accountability
and related task-commitment
helps me get going on very difficult tasks
that I've been resisting starting.
It mainly makes me fully commit
to start doing the task.
Then it becomes easier.
I find that committing to do a hard task
is often the toughest part to getting going.
If anyone is interested in finding free tasking groups online:
- Just google meet up or event brite type websites
for project groups, or writing groups.
Some groups specialize in writing sessions,
some groups specialize in artistic sessions,
some groups cover any type of project sessions.
Also,
there's a free chat help-website that does something similar,
but they do it in a group-chat-room they made for motivation.
The website is healthfulchat
and the group-chatroom is called
motivation-chat-room.
In the past:
- I suggested that 7Cups considering having
a similar tasking-chat-room
or
automate Noni to prompt tasking in Noni 1-on-1 chats.

I think it would greatly help people here with their productivity.
And I think it would greatly help people get unstuck
by making tiny progress during chats.
@Hope
Here's the link
where I explained the tasking improvement idea in detail
at the bottom of the page

to help improve motivation and productivity and feel better too,
@Hope
I think one possibility is...
One can try doing "tasking" here on 7Cups with a Listener in a 1-on-1 chat!
- Getting on a chat
and
tell the Listener you want to do 5 minutes of "tasking". - Tell the Listener you need their support to help your motivation.
- Tell the Listener what task you will be doing for 5 minutes.
- Ask them a wish for good luck,
and
ask them to wait for 5 minutes until you are done. - Then go do your 5 minute task.
- Then tell them how you did.
- Then celebrate doing your task! Yay! 🌝
