A Talk On Self-Care With KellyBx!
Talker: @KellyBx
What is your idea of spending a balanced time on 7cups? Share your idea of what a good day looks like on 7cups, for you.
A balanced time on 7Cups for me is about how I feel at the end of my listening time, it is having that controlled response regardless of whether things go well or not. Finding balance is a process that you learn from the experience of having chats with different people. It can be very difficult, but I know that I’ve had a good day if I feel content at the end of my conversations and successful in terms of being pleased with the way that I responded to different chats.
What challenges did you face in trying to strike that balance?
In my early days, I really struggled with wanting to help people too much and spending too much time chatting, but that was my own misunderstanding of what active listening is and the way that it can help. Going through the training guides and self-help modules really helped to give me a better understanding of how just listening is helpful and is enough. I also found a lot of support from speaking with other listeners about how they overcame similar challenges.
How did you try to deal with those challenges?
By improving my own self-care methods and scheduling my time for chats to give better focus to individuals and prevent burning out from trying to take on too much or trying to talk when I’m not in a good enough place myself.
What are the benefits of improving your balance for the time you spend on cups?
You feel better in yourself especially once you’ve come away from chatting, and I found that it improved my ability to listen and empathize with others.
What message would you like to give to the cupsers who have come to be negatively attached to cups, in one of the many ways?
It’s okay to struggle with it, it is easily done and it’s difficult to get out of once it becomes more of an attachment but there are resources and other listeners that can be really helpful with overcoming the various challenges.
