Living in constant paranoia
I don't know where exactly this topic goes, but I've had constant terrible paranoia for a year now atleast, I've been checking every room in my apartment every corner every place fearing someone could be there, this started as just checking when alone at home at night, over the past year it has gotten so terrible i am losing so much sleep i cant fall asleep I am so deeply exhausted everynight. It's a literal loop, no matter how much i check rooms and spaces i never feel safe, i've started checking rooms even when i'm not alone now. I genuinely dont know what to do, my friends keep trying to comfort me saying how im safe since i already checked once but it doesnt help. I just want to feel safe but every sound makes me go check everything again. My family even says how i shouldn't be scared cause im about to be an adult but i dont even know how it changes anything, i haven't been receiving proper professional help so i have no one to talk to that can guide me through this and help me. Its just anxiety and paranoia torturing me
@gonerlair
Any idea of what caused it?
*hugs*
@jesusredeemedme2425 I'm not sure, it did start around the time i got sa'd by a drunk guy. overtime it got worse as i never spoke to anybody about it except my friends. I've also been followed home but thats more years ago which just caused temporary panic and paranoia. It might be from built of trauma and anxiety but i don't exactly know its hard to pinpoint.
@gonerlair I'm sorry you had to go through that, this is a Safe space and You're not alone 🤍 Sending lots of love to you! ❤️
I’m so sorry :’(
That definitely explains it :( You might have PTSD. Have you talked to a therapist about it?
I just realized you said you haven’t received professional help. Have you researched PTSD?
@gonerlair Hi there,
Thank you so much for sharing what you’re going through. That sounds absolutely exhausting to live with this constant fear and checking. It makes so much sense that you’re feeling so worn out, especially when you’re not getting any real rest because of it.
I can hear how trapped you feel in this loop – like no matter how many times you check, the fear just doesn’t go away. That must be such a scary and lonely experience, especially when it feels like people around you don’t fully understand how intense it is for you.
It’s okay to feel scared, even as you’re getting older. Anxiety and paranoia don’t just disappear because you reach a certain age. You deserve support that helps you feel safer in your own home and within yourself.
You’re doing such a brave thing by opening up about this here. 💛 If you ever want to talk more about it or how it feels at night, I’m here to listen. You’re not alone in this.
i hope you can make it feel safe maybe music or a nice smell, it is your space no one else.
@gonerlair ... For what you’re facing, I think it’ll take some time to gradually readjust. I haven’t faced such big fears before, but for the ones I did overcome, I had the help of active, responsive, and committed friends.
I am sorry that you are going through this. You are brave to share your experiences here. You are smart to understand that you need to express your problems with other supportive people. Meditation might be helpful. It has helped me to relax and be less afraid of people. Trauma counseling could be helpful. Saying affirmations like “I am safe” might help. I hope I have given you some useful ideas. Best wishes ❤️
@gonerlair

This does sound like PTSD to me. My second job is teaching self defense and I have seen people come in with stories like this. You are not doing anything wrong here, and it must be hard to deal with! I am proud of you for reaching out and trying to work on it! I think the other posters are correct and you may want to consider therapy with a PTSD specialist. Going through a trauma, even if it doesn't seem like much at the time, can be very impactful. Keep moving through, you are doing great!
