A hot mess
My husband is having Mohs Surgery on Friday for Nodule Basal Cell Skin Cancer. Anything medical or dental is a trigger for my anxiety. I am one hot mess. He should be staying calm and keeping his mind off the surgery but I just make things worse. There are times I feel at peace and know the surgery will leave him cancer free. But as the surgery gets closer I have had more meltdowns. My worst enemies are my racing thoughts and Google. I keep thinking learning more will help my racing thoughts, but Google seems to give the worst case scenario with conflicting info. I am going to use my willpower to stay off Google and hopefully the bad things I read about will leave my mind. If you feel comfortable please pray for him that he will be cancer free after the surgery.

I'm sorry to hear about your husband's cancer diagnosis. I've had a family member diagnosed with cancer too and i know how difficult it is to cope with everything. But just remember that you are NOT making things worse. You're just worried about him and that's totally okay. And you're right, i think it's better to stay off of Google at the moment since there are lots of conflicting infos.
May your husband be healed and enjoy a cancer free life and may you be given the strength to cope 🫂
@GoBlue I'm sorry you're going through this, please know that most of the time, Google shows only the worst-case scenarios, don't get too deep into them. 🤍
I truly wish your husband's surgery goes smoothly 🤍 and things start to feel lighter 🍀 You're not alone in this. Sending lots of love your way! ❤️❤️
@GoBlue
How did the surgery go? How are you holding up?
Surgery will be this Friday morning. So I have 5 more days to try to keep it together. Thanks for asking.
@GoBlue
Oh … got it 🙂
Well then, the prayers will continue 😊

I am sorry that your husband is having an operation for his cancer. I think Basal Cell cancer is not the most dangerous kind of skin cancer. I am sure he will be fine.
As for your worrying, I have found that the information on the internet is usually not very predictive of a disease outcome. I also have gotten unnecessarily frightened by such information when I looked up diseases that I or a family member had. Even medical books can be misleading. I had tongue cancer and the Columbia book of medicine said that men with that cancer will die within five years seventy five percent of the time. I read that in 1992 and I have been cancer free after my operation for the last 33 years.
Try to focus on doing fun things with your husband and that will relax both of you.
Love, Bob ❤️
Thanks for your reply. My husband is not nervous for the surgery at all. He is more worried about needing to use the bathroom if the operation takes 4 hours 🙂. So at least he has a sense of humor about it. I am worried enough for both of us. We have been going on long bike rides, so it helps to get out of the house and get my mind thinking of something else.
My husband was kind and changed his appointment to Thursday hoping to alleviate my stress. But this means traveling farther and instead of relaxing and being thankful for this true act of love I am now worrying about traffic on this route and him making the new appointment on time. Luckily my anxiety is situational with medical and dental issues. I will start to relax Thursday evening but that is still 3 days away. Why have I gotten so deep into worry that it is consuming my week and not letting me be thankful? I do have a great support system, 3 friends in particular, but they have listened while I worried about Friday being so far away. Now if I tell them I am worrying about something new they might not want to deal with me. I certainly can't tell my husband after he went to all the trouble to try to make new feel better. Sometimes anxiety and worry can be a lonely place. Glad I have this app as an outlet.
