Need of Help From Those Who Have Suffered From Thanatophobia, Hypochondria, And Pharmacophobia.
Hi, I am currently in need of guidance with some possible phobias I have. If you suffer from Thanatophobia (fear of death), Hypochondria (fear of illness), or Pharmacophobia (fear of pills), and you could stay awhile and give some advice, I will be very great full. So, fair from my experience, I have a big fear of dying from anything. Like even getting a tummy ache makes me think the worst, like I have a slight chance I could die from it. And if I take any kind of pills, I feel as though I will get bad side effects and die from it as well. And it doesn’t help matters when I need to take medication for my anxiety, since it’s gotten so bad. I have told people that including doctors, psychiatrists, and a mental health crisis team, about my fear of taking the pills. And all they are trying is crushing the pill, and putting it in yogurt to help me calm down about it. And it hasn’t really been working out, and I am too scared to tell them that I can’t do it. I assume it’s because of social anxiety and just general anxiety. But it’s just getting frustrating because it’s going no where’s. I also feel like even if it was in a liquid form, or any other form it won’t make a difference. I have told my parents it won’t work, though but they just keep agreeing with the doctor’s and keep trying to make me take my pills, and I can’t blame them. But it’s very hard because no one understands, or knows how to deal with it. And it’s really hard for me to do what they want, because it’s almost like they are get me to drink poison.
Hello, I went on here looking for support as well.. I can't express to you how much I can relate to you.. I will not take pills unless I absolutely need to because I fear ill get some kind of negative effect and it will pit me in the hosptial, then ill be facing a life or death situation. It's easy for people to not understand.. ive had some tell me the way I think is ridiculous. I'm just like, don't you think I know this? It almost puts myself into more distress because no body understands how I think, no one understands how real these feelings are for me... when I'm in a better state of mind I try to remind myself that no matter what happens ill be able to handle it. And you can too.. I hope you can find courage within yourself.
I am like this and this is how i cope with it. I hope this helps you! I knew i needed to find someway to stop feeling this way. So what i did is found my reason on why i felt like that when i would take a pill or even look at one. It took me a long time to realize what my reason was. My reason was from having to go through a lot of antidepressants/anxiety medicines from doctors to find which would work. Some of them gave me side effects. So from that i grew these phobias. Or maybe there isnt a reason and you just fear it. I couldnt even get myself to take a multivitamin let alone my medications. So i finally decided to find a plan that would help me. I find logical reasons. For the first few weeks i would very quickly take the pill and go do something that highly distracts me. I would take my pills in the afternoon since that was the most busy time for me. After a week i told myself ive taken this pill for a week its definitely in my system i would of had a reaction to it if I would have one. So i kept telling myself that and kept distracting myself and finally i can take my medication without that fear. Some days i will randomly feel the fear but will quickly tell myself its ok ive taken it many times. You always get that feeling of well what if it is this time. Then i would tell myself someone is right down the hall if it was necessary I can have them take me to a doctor. BUT that is highly unlikely. I wont have any side effects because I have taken this pill a lot. So i will be ok. I just constantly remind myself of the facts over and over. With every question i gave a positive outcome scenario. It took me a while to do this so i hope you can find your reason on why you feel like this and then find logical reasons to help yourself cope. (The reason why i say logical is because sometimes the fear takes over and you find yourself thinking silly things) so you have to seperate the silly things from the facts and logical thoughts. I hope this will help you.
i can relate to this exactly, i'm sorry you're going through this and sorry i don't have advice to give. it's nice to know i'm not the only one
