I need a stop button for my brain
Ever felt like your brain just won't stop thinking and thinking no matter what you do? Like it just won't let you relax and call down for a bit? Like a zillion thoughts per second? Some of them neutral, some of them unpleasant, most of them just downright scary and so uncomfortable that you can't stand it? Sometimes I wish I could just have a stop button to switch it off for a while because it is overwhelming and makes me almost dizzy. It's such an uncomfortable state of mind. I can't stand it. I can't explain enough how much it bothers me every day. It's so hard to have to put up with something like this and have no one understand what you go through. The thoughts hurt, those emotions hurt, the fact that you're helpless against it hurts even more. I want to run, run as far as I can from my own mind. I'm going through hell.
@MusicNerd1111
well not no one. i understtand what u are going through. the speed, the uncertainty of the thoughts themselves, everything is scary and overwhelming and just SOOO EXHAUSTING. having this everyday really does take its toll. a few days back i had a bunch of mews poured on me, some good some bad and some worrying. all in all it was a feast for my brain. i haven't stopped having obsessive thoughts ever since and i have a headache now. i think ' no! happy toughts. go with the flow. chill' but the very next moments the thoughts flood back in with all the possibilities of some bad senario or upsetting questions.
can't offer help but i feel you. its not a little thing. it is very consuming and i understand that

@marely67 I'm sorry to hear that. I agree that it is consuming. I can totally feel you. The more you try to calm down the worse it gets. It feels like there's just no way out. Do you deal with anxiety too?
@MusicNerd1111 yeah i do. whats funny is that if i were to discribe myself i would say a funny girl, who likes new things and likes to share her interests with people close to her but realisticly speaking i am none of those things, at least not to others. i think way too much before i say something and end up not saying anything or when i do say i end up convincing myself that i am stupid for saying it and that the other person is offended and now hates me.
when people close to me say they like me i get upset because i think 'no. you can't like me, you don't even know me' but telling someone about me scares me soo much.
its hard to navigate around these things for me. i feel lonely very quickly but actual socializing is exhausting and all in all a mess. i have a best friend who i have known for 3 years now. thanks to lockdown the little progress i had made is undone and now i cant even talk to her without stuttering and feeling like i jumped out a plane. :/
@marely67 I can very much understand what you're going through. I was in that place too and it's extremely difficult. One thing that's worked for me is to do this triple column technique that is mentioned in Dr. David Burns's book "Feeling Good". You don't have to read the book, just Google it and you'll find out how to use it. It helps to put things in proper perspective and recognize the irrational thoughts you have. Let me know how it goes!

Same here, and my problem lately is sleep. I seem to forget how to fall asleep, awake again, when I was almost fall asleep, almost 2 weeks now :(
@rainylin
I'm not very knowledgeable about having issues with sleep. However, 7 Cups has a free "Sleeping Well" training guide that may contain helpful information. Here is the link if you would like to check it out: https://www.7cups.com/sleeping-well/
@rainylin Have you tried doing anything? For me, it's extremely hard to wake up in the morning and I feel low for 1-2 hours after waking up.
@rainylin
Here's a thread I created for my top sleep tips based on lots of reading and experimentation...

A stop button for the brain would be so nice. No more worry spirals! No more going thru possibility after possibility then running over every situation, again and again, to see if I forgot a possible outcome. Man, I hate anxiety.
@akay06 I can totally relate! Like the way we close our eyes when we want to, I wish we had something to stop our brains from overthinking literally every little thing. You ever had these recollections of something embarrassing you did like a million years ago? Isn't that just disturbing? Hate when it happens!
@MusicNerd1111
Yes! It's the worse and it happens at the most random times.
@MusicNerd1111 The fact that all of you guys who upvoted this post and replied to me can relate to this experience makes me feel a little less alone and that I hope that it does the same for you. We can keep this going and share whatever works for each one of us and support each other. Please stay strong and hold on through the tough times. We can do this. Lots of love to you all.
