Social Anxiety can be harder than most people think - Getting help.
Hey guys :D I was doing some thinking and after seeing just how many people on here have some form of social anxiety it'd be nice to discuss something.
What is the hardest things about seeking out help for your social anxiety?
What I think when I ponder this question is the fact that although there will be so many places you can go to for help, and different things that can be done; there usually always is one big problem - most of it puts you in a social situation to do so. Think about it, if you have problems with being scared of spiders you wouldn't go ask a spider for help, you'd be too scared to try that, so why is it for most help with social anxiety we have to go and talk to people about it? D: It seems to be a big dilemma as you have to go through a lot of hardship and face your social anxiety and take it head on to be able to even try to get help most of the time, this just makes it way too hard to get help most of the time in my opinion, I'd be glad to hear everyone else's opinion on this :D
I would be too scared of being judged and ridiculed.
The hardest part for me is to stop lying both to myself and others. I'm not sure if it is completely anxiety or paranoia, but every time someone would say something to me, I would lie about myself, my feelings, and my situation.
@gregariousAvocado5044 yup denial is common thing, it's like how qwith true acceptance denial is supposed to be the first step :P it can be really hard at times to fully accept anything but as soon as you do that you might feel better about it and able to tell the truth you so dearly keep hidden :o I hope you will be able to do this as it seems you want to ^-^ <3
The hardest part about getting help for me is believing that i deserve it.
@oliverwhm well everyone does <3 no matter who you are if you need help then you deserve it ^-^ no matter what anyone says or does, or anything that happens, we all deserve help in our lived, because we are all human and as people we must look out for each other anyway. Everyone is amazing in their own ways and should get help when they need it <3
I'm even too scared to open up to my counselor and doctor. They know i have anxiety but I can't even tell them what's really wrong.
The hardest thing is trying to speak up about your fears surrounding social situations. Like by somehow admitting it or talking about makes you less or weak or isnt significant enough.
Where If it effects my well being its improtant enough to address. Trying to keep the link between the two is the hard part.
It's hard for me to talk to anyone. The fear that I will be rejected or ridiculed. I'm not really outgoing and would much rather be forgotten than remembered. I feel like I don't fit in anywhere. I am nearly desperate to find someone to talk to and start working through my issues, the first step is the hardest.
The hardest thing for me that is stopping me from getting help for social anxiety is that I know it is due to being bullied when I was younger ....
and I am an ADULT now.
I am ashamed that it still is effecting me to this day.
I fear that pl will just say get over it or smethng like that - or, move on with your life.
That and I do nto want to bring up the painful past of being bullied .
So, instead of getting help - I go out and force myself to be social andoutgoing - even though I do nto feel it.
I have to make myself see truth in situations where I am triggered -
like when ppl are laughing near me and I immediatly think they are laughing at me - I have to ask myself - is this true or is it a story I am creating because of my past?
I guess until I have the courage to get help for past bullying which is the core of my social anxiety - I will have to keep being mindful and using CBT.
@blissedNblessed awww darling *hugs* that sucks, but age doesn't mean much for who you are in these cases, sometimes events affect you and won't ever stop, there are things out there to help you though and I hope you'll be able to seek that out <3
@KeananWillListen
(((hugs back))) <3
I know you are right...I do...but Knowing and Feeling are two different thing.
I Have gotten a lot better - it is no longer crippeling to me.
I do have a therapist and one day, when I feel the time is right - I might open up about that ( so much shame around this too).
Until that day - I always have my beautiful 7 cups friends and listeners <3
@blissedNblessed Yes :D 7cups will always be here for you <3 and I ca nsay anything but you do need to fight a really personal battle inside yourself to truly believe it still :o it's great you plan to tell your therapist sometime :D You can do it I'm rooting for you <3
