Dinner With Our Alumni: WendinCaring

Hi everyone! Hope everyone had a good weekend. I am here with another one of our wonderful alumni @WendinCaring! For those that don't know, Dinner With Our Alumni is a series of small interviews that we conduct with 7 Cups Academy alumni to know more about their journey in the program - this post is dedicated to the Content Development and Marketing (CDM) Program! The aim is to spread more awareness about the program and hope everyone gives it a read!

So a little about WendinCaring! @WendinCaring found 7 Cups in 2019 Fall when they were volunteering for a mental health arts festival (we are famous people!!)! They loved it and signed up to be a volunteer listener ever since. Wendin loves movies, philosophy, languages, culture, humour and storytelling. They are a dedicated listener to the community and we are beyond grateful to have them here.

What was on the menu? A pot of rice porridge!

Without further ado, here's Wendin for you:

What made you join the CDM program?

I joined the CDM program because I am interested in artsy designs and marketing. And I also enjoy doing research on mental health related topics and writing about human conditions.

How was your experience doing the coursework?

I enjoyed the program and learnt so much from the instructor and my fellow trainees/listeners.

Which was your favorite activity in the program?

My favorite part of the program was to design social media posts (to go with certain graphic designs). It gave me a chance to be an art nerd.

How did you enjoy writing an article?

Writing a mental-condition-related article was challenging and rewarding. It's a bittersweet experience.

What advice would you give to a new CDM trainee?

My advice to a new CDM trainee: It may seem daunting to try cramming so much new information in a short period of time. However, trust me: your hard work will pay off. Keep learning and growing with the great training team. You'll make it.

What are some new things you learned about content through the coursework?

I have learnt a lot about content creating through the coursework, especially how to tailor my writing content for a specific reader group and what tone I should use when addressing certain issues.

How can mentors offer better support for the program?

Mentors tend to offer better support by checking in on the trainees regularly and reminding them where they are at in the program. Some trainees may need extra time to do the assignments on their own. It'll be great if they can get a one-on-one tutorial via PMs on the 7 Cups platform at request.

How did you enjoy creating graphics for the program?

I really enjoyed creating graphics for the program. Honestly I wasn't aware that there are so many great tools out there for me to use to create awesome graphics before starting the program. UX/UI design is something that I'm interested in no matter what.
