This actually happened several summers ago in London. And it didn't happen as I had imagined it would rather went far beyond my expectations.

So here I was on a solo trip to the UK, though staying with friends, on an extended vacation.

I would go out everyday to explore and enjoy a new side of the beautiful city of London. One day after walking all day through the historic city I drifted to my childhood fantasy landmark, The Trafalgar Square, where I had pranced around the pigeons as a little girl, now to return as an adult to spend the entire summer.

So as I was taking in the wonderful nostalgic place, sitting with myself, delving in memories, munching peanuts with a glass of my favorite grape juice I noticed an Asian sketch artist. He sure caught my fancy and though I am awfully shy, I saw myself in front of him requesting and negotiating my sketch, to which he very eagerly agreed. And that's how it all began with me perched on a tiny stole with hundreds of people walking past me and a few pausing to watch the sketch take shape.

The initial shyness had all disappeared and I was lost in the magical moment and with a faraway look in my eyes let the artist sketch away to glory.

And would you believe it, it started with drizzling but neither of us were unperturbed and very soon the amazing me appeared so clearly and beautifully on paper through a very subtle skin colored chalk crayon. He had captured me perfectly physically and emotionally.

I would like to remember it as my most endearing travel experience 😊

The sketch is still waiting to be framed and put up but not for long now as I will be moving to my own apartment and know just the spot I want to hang it up... ❣️

Being painted by someone wasn't what she expected. There's just a lot to know, too much for it to normally be able to be captured in one static image that can only appear dynamic.

There was a lot of pain that stained her present, but only on the surface. Beneath, she was always able to shine through. She could be personified best as a gardener; kindness to living things, her meticulous attention for immaculate work, and appreciation for all that is natural and unadulterated.

Now that she's gone, she can leave all the dirt, the evil, the limitations, the smut... She can leave all of it behind. I know that those things made her jagged on the surface, but there was so much more beneath that.

I attempted to paint my grandma, and I think it captured at least the essence beneath.

Being painted by someone wasn't what they had expected...

What is the expectation? What is the dating truth of what we want?

I have been honest but they expected lies

I been kind but they expect hurt

I been hurt but they expect me to go away...

I control my story, my painting, my place on the stage of life. I know my bleeding heart is hurting but I will heal and show my golden cracks.

If they expect something else. They will be disappointed. But my hand still offers to be there for them.

@SirenOfSerenity

I wanted to try something a bit different. I am she. She is I.

She just wanted to be accepted. She played every sport she could play. She was in color guard with the marching band. She went to regionals for the science olympiad competition and placed. She got good grades. She graduated high school with honors. Went to college with a writing scholarship. She did the best she could. She was secretary treasurer of her college Rotaract Club and vice president of her college’s Active Minds chapter. Despite all of her struggles, she graduated college with a bachelor's in psychology. She did all the things she could to be “acceptable and loved.”

Being painted by the people she thought loved her as lazy, incompetent, a failure, never good enough was not what she expected. She thought that with everything she had accomplished her family would be proud. Instead she's 32, living 700 miles from everyone she ever knew because she was tired of being the black sheep, unappreciated by everyone she'd ever known.

Looking back, the picture that was painted of her is not who she is. She is a strong, resilient, smart, and talented young women with so much more to offer than the painting that told nothing but lies.

Being painted by someone wasn't what she had expected

as she sat in the woven chair with no arms....

The true color of her face was full of sadness

The color of her lips, was of a broken heart

But as her arms lie on her lap,

With no ease and no life

Her eyes glossed, while tears fell

Then she saw the painter and his colors

Swipe

She didn't understand the ugliness

The bare feelings within her soul

But the painter painted her true colors

Coors that looked so vibrant and so bold

Being painted by someone wasn't what she expected

When she walked in the therapists room

But the therapist, who was a painter

Showed the woman beauty is within those ugly feelings too.....

@Key550 Such an interesting conclusion I love it, I feel like it definitely illustrates the anxiety the really does build before meeting a therapist. Especially if it's the first time not knowing what to expect. Thank you for participating this week!

@SirenOfSerenity

She painted him with her thoughts and not just pastels.

She brung out colors that she never knew existed.

She felt so familiar with him, despite knowing him only for a while.

She showed him her true colours and he her.

Together they created a painting only they could understand.

It still hangs somewhere, unbeknownst to the world, years after they've drifted apart.

@SirenOfSerenity

Being painted by someone wasn't what she had expected. She feared the vulnerability. She was always told she was beautiful, since she was young. But never believed it, because she saw ugliness inside. What she didn't realize that she is not defined by what happened to her. That true beauty comes from light both shining from within, as well as allowing the light of like to shine in her.

The artist took their time. They took extra care to show her true colors. The result was a radiant picture. One of beauty and like. Her bravery paid off.

I went to the museum

late in the day

To see all the art

I'd come a long way

And I was so tired

Couldn't take it in

But the one piece of art that stuck out to me most

A child surrounded

With those who he didn't know

And if he was afraid

On the outside

it didn't show

But he wanted to be home.

I wasn't expecting to be painted that day

But I had been, in a way

On my way to the house I don't seem to recall

The other paintings

the large or the small

Just the kid who was tired like me

But I'm an adult now

that's how it seems

Idk kinda just spilled some letters on here oof it's kinda weird but I think I like it alright
