Waking up to the slightest light through my window. The morning is green and bright.
My lover is beside me, though not in person. Sometimes we sleep on video call so that we can know the other is there.
Her sleepy smile is the sweetest thing that I could never get tired of.
I go out to get my coffee. It is vital. It is the essence. It is often the first representative of the little things.
This morning, I look at my creative works but I don't make anything new. Sometimes it's good to be reborn in something I can always be proud of.
I play a video game. My roommate's kid comes in and I let her have the controller for a bit. Surprised how intelligent and funny kids can be sometimes.
On a whim, I ordered some mapo tofu. Just because I'd never tried it. When it arrived, it was actually really tasty.
I take a 30 minute jog/walk to the forest and park. I see a huge spider between the trees. I greet it and politely ask to take its picture. I thank it and move on.
An old friend texts me. Hopefully we'll hang out tomorrow. It's been way too long.
I take a long shower and can't stop laughing in there. My mind is always down to laugh in the shower. When that happens, it's so refreshing that I usually get somewhat exhausted from relaxation.
Tonight I will probably just leave YouTube on when I'm going to sleep. It's nice to have something there sometimes.
@Clarisse29,
"It's the little things in life...", or so they say.
She was staring out the window, foggy, dusty glass once again clouding her thoughts. And she couldn't help but recall those words, creating much more chaos than what was sensible.
An old lady was singing in the distance, lingering soft notes under a simple melody. "Hopeful", she would say. What would they add?
"...To sing and forget."
Sigh. The voice was beautiful indeed. If only her focus would be as good as it used to, maybe this one spring afternoon could be like any other. She still remembers what it was like to come home from an exhausting routine and vanish it all away with a few lovely songs.
She feared losing everything that made her herself.
"...For your heart to love and forgive."
Her mom said as you grow, you forgive. Her dad taught her that you accept the past as a lesson. They say that anger never lasts. She wonders if those words would suit this moment. Isn't it dangerous to ignore the passage of time or the countless nights of self-doubt? Wouldn't it pose any threat? May someone tell her that her frustrations are worth something?
"...And for your mind to rest."
Yes, it has always been exhausting to keep track of things, even if someday she could get the chance to number them. She would love to, really, behind all those excuses she gives herself. Clever little phrases that never fail to wear her down. Silence is endless, yes, when sitting on the windowsill all alone.
"Keep youthful in spirit, for life is only now."
Now, just another spring evening. Now, when everything seems to run on a loop, gloomy reasons serve some purpose. Yeah. Now.
Her youth slips through her fingers like the memory of sand in summer long ago.
"There will be no comfort in a final breath."
Since that day, that is something she will always keep in mind. Every day, even now, she knows she won't allow herself to leave. And then she lets her breaths calm her, deep and slow, filling her chest with a bit of life.
"Take it easy, my child."
Someone said that this is a world of parents and children, and we will all play both roles. She wouldn't admit it to anyone, but sometimes she lets out a smile when she thinks about it. She entertains herself in imagining that these words she keeps in her mind might sometime soothe someone else.
"For the little things in life..."
Just like making love grow, weaving it carefully over the years. Like mending her wounds, day by day and week by week. Like looking out the window, expecting nothing from anyone, at peace with the silence.
"keep us going".
And in her solitude, she keeps breathing.

Wow, this is really beautiful! I love how you took lines of your poem and added little narrative pieces to them. It brings out the essence of each line, and it aligns with the prompt so well! Great work 😊

Love is the only thing we have. Even on our darkest days and nights. Is darkness what I want? No. Or is it? Is darkness love? Or is darkness fear? Darkness can be sweet like dark chocolate on my lips. It can help me through my day or keep me stuck. Is darkness love or is it hate? Is it stable or will it leave me in the middle of the night like a runaway love? Love is fleeting, isn't it? Or am I afraid to step into the darkness?
"It's the little things that count."
It's the little things that break you.
The shift in his voice
His pupils pinpricks
A twitch of the mouth
And then I feel sick
It's not the big things, there are no big things
The offhand comments and the quiet remarks
I spiral into madness at the sound of his voice
And he's got a closed fist on the strings of my heart
@CupoSad076 so moving!
@Clarisse29
Thank you Clarisse!! <33
Little things
You always wanted to give her everything
you were trying to tell what her wishes were before she could
you tried to give her everything for Christmas, you tried to bring
everything for her birthday and still she would
feel horrible, even though she never talked
and I am sure you looked outside the window when she walked
away from the place that you call home and she sees it as jail
I am sure that you always meant well
but while you were running after the happiness you thought you could buy
she was alone, no friends and no love from her family, and she would cry
herself to sleep, every night, because you didn't see her
no one did, she was invisible, no one noticed she was even there
you didn't hug here since she was four
not since the day were it all went wrong
the day where she knew that she didn't belong
and you heard her cry and chose to close the door
she never cared about birthday gifts, she cared about the little things
one day she chose to tell you, you were surprised but nothing changed
instead you thought a holiday will be good and you arranged
it as if it were a business meeting, and forgot about the joy that love brings
- Bubble
It's the little things in life
For which we should strive
A hand to hold,
A warm blanket in the bitter cold
A bear hug,a hot chocolate mug
The scent of a rose,
A book of beloved prose
The sound of rain, the scent of wet soil
A warm cozy bed and a house of love after a day of hard toil
The sight of a rainbow, unexpected fireworks
Nature's magic,in moments unexpected
The laughter of a baby, the adoration of a child
The sight of a pretty flower somehow thriving in the wild
Freshly washed laundry,a song attached to a happy memory
Comfort food,everyone happy,laughter,family
An unremarkable life which combines purpose and passion
So that on your deathbed you will have satisfaction
That you have achieved all the little things in life
And in your heart you know these were actually the big things.
