Around the World in Eighty days 😁
Where has been your favourite place to travel to? Your best travelling memory and your worst? What did you think of the food, the culture and did you learn anything new?
@Amanda84 I'll begin 🥰 I absolutely loved Tasmania. The old towns were quaint and I loved explored the little markets. The people were friendly and I'm glad I went there. The boat ride was awful though, needless to say, I flew back 🤣 The Cameron Highlands in Malaysia need to get a mention, as a lover of tea, to be able to go out into the fields and pick your own tea, and then witness the process and drink it, I was in tea heaven 🤣
@Amanda84 ooh I love listening to travel stories and experiences. Following this thread! 🥰
@Sunisshiningandsoareyou thank you 😊 I have been blessed to be able to go camel riding in the desert, not sure the camel was too happy though 😁 I climbed Ayers rock, went scuba diving in the great barrier reef, flew in a helicopter over the Great ocean road (I wasn't the pilot 😁), went to a moon party in Thailand, soaked up the beautiful scenery of Dubrovnik, as a massive football fan, walking on the pitch at Elland Road and also Real Madrid's was heaven, i loved the salt mines in Poland, wasn't a lover of the food though 😁
@Amanda84
Right here on 7cups, there is a majority of people (members and listeners) who never were able to travel anywhere, especially not abroad. For some, it is because they can't take a paid leave and others, because they can't afford the expense.
If I were to ask this kind of question to a group of people I did not know personally, it would just point to the privilege I have and many in the group would feel put down. This is akin to asking people what kind of castle they live in and which golf club is their favourite.
This said, I recently repatriated from living and working in 3 different countries over 47 years and have been staying in other countries besides. One ALWAYS learns something from those trips. I am one of those fortunate ones who could.
No bad memories - looking back, those events were part of my education. One does not get to judge other cultures. You just adapt as you go and revise what you thought you knew.
@Fradiga I appreciate your honesty and thank you. The intention is to just have some light-hearted fun and enjoy listening to people's travelling stories, definitely not a thing of privilege or looking down on anyone. I know only too well that many people for multiple reasons cannot experience the same. Thank you for sharing your experiences with me. Take care and have a nice day 😊
@Amanda84
Well, of course, it will be light-hearted to those who share the same privilege, no doubt.
I have been working on a volunteer basis with migrants, a few of them homeless in a country new to them and their trip has nothing to do with any my own experiences.
So when I have been traveling, I appreciated first or business class, taxi waiting for me, and a comfortable hotel room or friends' place when I got there. I have seldom traveled as a tourist, seeking immersion rather.
@Fradiga i am not privileged, respectfully you don't know me to make these judgements, it's a light-hearted post to see what people liked or didn't like about their travelling experiences, nothing more and nothing less.
Haven't been many places, but went to Hawaii for our honeymoon (3 years after we got married, but still considered it our honeymoon since we never did anything after our wedding), and it was absolutely beautiful. Best time was going on multiple hikes and the luau that we went to was amazing. We also went to a little place called Hot Pot Heaven to eat one day - it was so good. Also discovered my favorite sandals while there- Island Slipper. Honestly the worst part about it was the flight - my husband is one of those people that verbalize every little thing that could go wrong while on a plane haha.
@Amanda84
I can’t choose. I’ve been to Germany and Italy, but I’ve traveled mostly around my country due to low budget. Hahahah
I live on an island in Greece and there are many beautiful places around. I’d choose Aidipsos. It’s a village nearby and it’s famous for its hot springs (famous among old people <.<). I don’t know if it’s because I too start getting old, but I love how calm and beautiful it is.
There’s actually a statue of Hercules there. How cool??! Hahah
@Random28 hey, that sounds awesome and I love a bit of mythology 😁 thanks for sharing. Germany is a beautiful place. I must try out the hot springs. I know what you mean re the budget, it's not possible at times to go where we want, that's why I love hearing other people's travelling stories. I'm not privileged by any stretch of the imagination, but blessed to work for many years, all the horrible jobs you can imagine and all the hours God sends, save and travel, a time in my life i will treasure. I even love hearing where people live and the different lives they live. Greece sounds beautiful 😊
@Amanda84
Greece is really beautiful! Every corner has its beauty (but for real) and I think it’s some sort of a privilege in a way; especially when the money runs low yet you need to get away for some time.
I can understand because same? Maybe not entirely the same, but you know, I can’t just travel out of the blue so I also like hearing people’s stories. It’s fun and motivational.
If you could, would you revisit one of the places you’ve been or you’d choose something new motivated by people’s stories?
I will always go back to Italy… I loved it, I love it and I’ll never stop loving it. My partner is from there and whenever I fly over, we get to go around and visit a new place every time.
@Amanda84 , glad to listen the amazing adventure travel stories. I flew few countries, but the best experience is Everest base camp trekking in Nepal. Regarding The worest experience, I am not sure ,but I missed my passport in Dubai airport for one hour duration ,which gave lot of tention and also missed the flight. Because of that, I spent 20 hours in airport as their guest .
@Amanda84
