Bao buns:

Baozi (Chinese包子), or simply bao, is a type of yeast-leavened filled bun[1] in various Chinese cuisines. There are many variations in fillings (meat or vegetarian) and preparations, though the buns are most often made from wheat flour and steamed. They are a variation of mantou from Northern China.

@jesusredeemedme2425 They are crispy, deep-fried wonton wrappers filled with a creamy mixture of cream cheese, imitation or real crab meat, scallions, and garlic, served with a sweet and sour dipping sauce (I think it's a sweet and sour sauce)

They are delicious! 😋

@mytwistedsoul. I love crab rangoon when we eat at Chinese restaurants and are able to find them. I wonder if it is really an authentic dish from China or if it was adapted/Westernized.

@reservedOwl321 Oh gosh I just looked into it and you're right it's not authentic Chinese 😳

It's history is kind of mixed with some debate as to when it was first made and by whom.  They're still delicious though! 😋

User Profile: reservedOwl321

@mytwistedsoul I guess that is why we have trouble finding it at Chinese restaurants sometimes and other times it has different names.

User Profile: mytwistedsoul
mytwistedsoul January 20th

@reservedOwl321 That would explain it. I think I've only been to one Chinese restaurant that didn't have it on the list. I didn't know it's sometimes called something else though

@peachThinker662 I found them at the store but they're not nearly as good as what the restaurants make. I was disappointed 😅 Even the recipes to make them at home can't capture the magic

I’ve been to china and especially the food there was such an incredible experience for itself! For example: Sticky rice in a pineapple! I’ve never thought that this could exist, it tastes funny, in a good way.

And we had hot pot: in the middle of the table is a pot with boiling water and you put tofu, noodles, bacon and other stuff for a short time in it. Reminds me of raclette, really tasty! img-7795_1768512206.jpeg

Tbh I don’t know whether these are unique to china, but I never had them before :) img-7794_1768511646.jpeg

@Butterfly723389 Thank you for that piece of history! We have a Korean BBQ restaurant here where I live and they also have hot pot, so I don't know why I always associated it with Korean food v Chinese food. Learn something new every day! Regardless, I love it! I always choose that spicy broth for mine and load it up with noodles, veggies, and meat. 😋 Soooo good!

@politePlace5370 Ok. I’m over the shock of eating scorpions.  Is this really true?  I don’t think that would sell well in any Americanized Chinese restaurants, but the Kaofu sounds like something I would like to try.

When I go to a Chinese restaurant I usually get something like mixed vegetables and if they have tofu I get it with the tofu for my protein along with rice. We have been to several different Chinese restaurants, but almost all of them have had the best service! In fact, our daughter kind of grew up at one of the Chinese restaurants we went there pretty often for lunch, and the owner was very personable. They always seemed to love the kiddos.
