It's a great idea for a thread, @ZaraSmiles. I have a question for you - have you been always so awesome? ^^ Anyway, keep it up!
@Celaeno you celestial angel, you'll never stop surprising me with your sweet heart. To be honest, if there's anything depression has taught me, it's that I should always try to make people smile and feel loved because you never ever know what they can be going through. We each have our demons and battles, so I'm here - not to get rid of them, but rather to be that light in their darkness, reflecting the person's awesomeness and helping them through the dark until they find the sun again. I'm merely the water that helps you see how amazing you are. And you, sweet one, are most certainly special.
@ZaraSmiles, you're not merely the water, lovely - you're the ocean, your waves are cleansing out our sadness, gently whispering comforting words: "you are not alone". Your presence gaves us a glimpse of something magnificent and true. You're the destination for raindrops falling from the corner of our eyes, finding their way to the safe refuge.
*hugs*
@ZaraSmiles, I have a couple of questions for you, princess!
1) What is your favorite project here in all of 7Cups?
2) What are four of your favorite books?
3) Do you prefer the beach or forests?
4) What's your favorite color?
@ZaraSmiles
pleasure to know more about u as always :) question: when did you realize about depression? when did you know what that word really means? what was your reaction about it?
@ZaraSmiles, it's your turn now ^^ What are your favourite books?
@ZaraSmiles What is your favourite topics, genres, authors to read?
My name is Cadence, and I am 19 years old. For six years of this, I have been battling depression. One of my hobbies is reading, but I also adore writing and listening here. I have two kittens, one's name is Kitty Friend and one's name is Tiggins. Keep strong, little flowers. Never be afraid to message me.
@Alot <3 @Amelia @politeCup86 @MissZ
@Cadence, can I just say that I love, love your kitten's name, Tiggins? It's so adorable and it really makes me smile ^^ Thank you for the offer of support - please know that we are able to repay this kindness and send you our strength, too. I'm glad you're with us.
*hugs*
@Celaeno, you are one of my biggest role models in the entire world. You make me happy to be here, and you make the forums a wonderful place. Thank you so much, really, for everything.
@Cadence lovely Queenie, a question if you don't mind? I love getting to know special people even more, especially if they're someone I consider a sister. What's one thing that keeps you going through your bad days? You're one of the strongest people out there, and certainly one of the sweetest. Hugs ❤
@ZaraSmiles, what keeps me going on my bad days (besides you)?
Do you count? Hah, quite honestly, your beautiful forum posts for me are saved on my computer, and I read through them when I'm sad.
But when I don't do that, honestly I'm a bit of a workaholic; I work a lot and I adore it. So on my bad days, I just kind of hope that I have work. I've not really found a concrete way of keeping myself afloat on bad days. Like today, it was a bad day. And I don't really know what I'm supposed to be doing. So I'm posting here. I'm good at distractions! I also have beautiful friends like @OrunLeon and @Alot (and you) who make me really happy on a daily basis (I love you two with all of my heart, please know that).
When I have a solid answer, I'll let you know. I'm not really a role model in that sense!
@Cadence
appreciate tagging me hon :D question for you: how it really feels to be loved by a loooooot of ppl here? how does it feel to be such a huge star in this site? bcuz u r anonymously famous :) i want to know how it feels :) plus i always wanted to ask you about ur mom health, i remember u mentioned in earlier forum that she (and u) suffered a lot and became a known member in hospital (and not bcuz of the name tag on ur hands :) don't ask me how i remember this much but i do :) i really hope that don't bother you that i'm asking, it's just i hope everything is going in its best way! i love you so much and u r 10 years younger but i LEARNED a lot from you ! how to be kind with other regardless and how to be humble with my self and admit that it's okay if i fall short sometimes or all the times as long as i keep moving forward
@politeCup86, firstly, I love you!
To answer your first question, to be honest, I am not sure! I do not find myself to be any more or any less important or loved than anyone else here. That's a subjective question c; So how does it feel? Well, it doesn't c: I do what I do out of love <3
And I don't mind you asking. My mom sadly passed away in June of 2014, and I am still learning every single day how to cope with that, and that is okay. I don't have to be perfect in my grieving process. I think that was the hardest part, learning how to live without someone to love, and realizing that you are not going to grieve in the same way as other people.
If I can be honest, you, too, have taught me a lot about the road to being better. You've taught me that no matter what, it's easy to spread kindness, because even if you're not feeling the best, you find ways to encourage other members and listeners, and give them so much love. I personally am thankful that our paths have crossed, because you're someone here who has really influenced me, and you're someone that I really adore seeing posts from. Please remain this lovely forever, okay? I love you <3
@Cadence
Oh thanks for the amazing reply and i hear u about ur own unique way in grieving.
and i'm also grateful that our paths crossed
Oh there is so much love here
and so much kind words
Too much for my
Hugging u Cadence
You are so rad have an amusing day
I agree on this one, @adaptableHuman6878 ^^ @Cadence is the raddest ❤️
I'm Lyra! ❈ I'm 18, I love knitting - the last thing I knitted was a dark pink beret, which I have worn with great pride today, because: I am literally am wearing a raspberry beret (the kind you find in a second hand store). ❈ If you don't get the reference, check this! ❈
I love beautiful forum threads like this one, my cat, cheese and hugs, and I've been suffering from depression for three or so years, and I've been diagnosed in the last year, but my good days are getting more frequent and more good. ❈
@Lyra, it's great to hear that you're having more and more good days! You deserve every one of them. And you have such a cool hobby - I'm not a crafty person, but I admire anyone who has a skill to create something ^^
@Lyra wonderful twinny, question time! If you could talk to anyone for a whole hour, no interruptions, past or present, who would it be? I love your post, our #colourcoordination is gorgeous!
@Lyra It's wonderful to know you :) thanks a lot for sharing in this lovely thread and nice and hard hobby!
Ok, hmm... I'm Celaeno and I'm 23. I have depression for quite some time, but I tend not to think since when - in my case it will probably be a life-long condition, so I prefer to focus on how well I can manage and befriend it ^^;
Just like for @ZaraSmiles, my favourite hobby is to read. I love it and I can swallow a book in one day. The hardest blow for me is when suddenly I can't do it during a breakdown - it's like taking me from the safest refuge.
I chose my nickname after a harpy from the Greek mythology, and I use it to describe my depression for years now. Harpies are creatures with a face of the women and the body of birds. I always thought it fits rather nicely a symbolic image for depression - a monster with a human face, who can fool you with a voice which sounds like your own. Something hoovering above your head, waiting to spot any weakness to catch its prey. It sounds grim, but it helps me to visualize the struggle better ^^;

@Celaeno are we officially considered friends now? c; Ahhhh, I wish we could talk in PMs one day! I have a ton of questions to shoot at you, because you're special like that. You're truly an ethereal wonder, you keep this place wonderful and I adore you ❤
❶ What's your favourite book? (Cliche question, I know)
❷ What is your best coping method for bad days?
❸ What is one thing you're most grateful for?
❹ How do you stay so all-around amazing?
Aaaaaand that's all for now since I don't want to overwhelm you but I probably will do later! xD
YOU ARE BRILLIANT.
@ZaraSmiles, yes, we are ^^ Who didn't want to have such a kind, wonderful friend as you?
*hugs*
Sorry for taking so long to reply to your questions. My favourite book is nonexistent, because there are simply too many of them ^^; Can I give you some of those which I reread more than 3 times at least (Jane Eyre, Sapkowski's Witcher series, The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy)? Or those which make me weep from striking a chord of truth in my heart (Never Let Me Go by Ishiguro, Atonement, Of Mice and Men, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, The Book Thief)? Or just brilliant pieces of writing (Geek Love, Brave New World, The Handmaid
@Celaeno it's always nice to see something from u, question: you are a very (close to the heart person) it's just like ur gift i guess, now please be honest and tell me is that the same case in real life? are you aware of that? do you feel that and deny it? or do you feel that and acknowledge it? bcuz you are such a lovely person and it's ur reality and i really hope ur answer will be that you are aware of that.
another question: and i ask my self this question all the time, why not all this posts and stuff from your listener acount? unless you don't have one, but if you do? what makes it easier for you to communicate with ppl here by ur member account?
TW: abuse, manipulation
@politeCup86, thanks, lovely, your words are really kind. I have to disappoint you a bit, though.
I think we are all presenting differently to others in the real life than in this community, and I don't necessary mean it in the negative way. I'm much kinder to the strangers, I'm polite and helpful in the old-fashioned way. To my few friends I'm a loyal, quiet chap who listens and observe more than talks.
However, for my family I'm not so lovely at all. They know me the best, so I allow myself to be more free around them. They love me deeply, but it doesn't undermine the fact that I'm a really, really, really stubborn and rebellious. If you want me to do something, just tell me an opposite - I'm like a child in that sense ^^; I'm much more expressive with them, I constantly try to make witty remarks and puns to make them laugh at which I'm pretty good.
Unfortunately, I can also be mean. Like, in a deeply cruel way. I know exactly what to say to the person to inflict an emotional pain, I can manipulate someone to feel guilt or trick them to do something according my plans. When I was a kid I've had problems which no one recognized and I coped with them by mistreating people, mostly my younger brother. I wasn't a full-time bully, nevertheless there are incidents when clearly I was a perpetrator in hurting others. I was terrified by my behaviour and it took me years of reeducating myself to learn emotional management skills. I've come far from the turbulence of the teenage years and I think I've stopped being a manipulator for years now, but it's something which happened.
So I don't think I'm lovely at all. I think I'm kind and honest, brave and funny, but also naive, sulky, manipulative, moody, bossy, and stubborn. Those aspects are not contradicting themselves - I simply accept them and improve the ones which are unwanted. Humans are both complicated and simple, we both have done loving and shameful things, and that's natural. 7 Cups community is just a space for common, beautiful, complicated people to outbalance bad deeds in the world.
You see, we all have a part of ourselves we don't show. It's easy to put someone on the pedestal, but personally I think it's dangerous and unhealthy to present someone as better and more worthy than others among him. The only thing I do here is listening to others in forums, just like I wanted to be heard - that's all ^^;
Regarding being a listener, I actually have an account. For 3 or 4 of weeks I've been listening to the stories of strangers and it was a beautiful, rewarding experience. Soon though, I felt overwhelmed. I've put my energy to helping others and just there wasn't any left for me to use in m recovery. And I don't mean that in a way that I haven't set boundaries or that I forget to self-care.
Active listening requires a lot of mental capacity, and I only realized that when I meet the other side of the community. It's not just about listening and being empathetic - that's an easy part, really. You have to be present in the given moment, concentrate on the lovely person's stories, giving an instant comforting feedback. Right now I cannot do that in the instant messaging system without risking my health. I have to have a space to breath and think, and to step back. Being a member is 100% sufficient for me. I don't aspire to become anything more than I currently am - a stranger on the Internet who is interested in your story and want to ease the pain a bit.
Sorry for such a length reply. I don't know if it's something you expected. I hope you are well today. All my love, Cup ❤️
@Celaeno
Well lovely Celaeno, i have asked u this question bcuz i expected this answer :) it wasn't a random question hon :)
I appreciate your honesty and every word u have written about ur self :) and as much as u try to convince me well im still holding to my opinion and not disappointed. And i will repeat my self. You are so lovely and i hope u will know how lovely you are one day :*
And I'm not saying that what u have mentioned is not true. It's so honest and i appreciate it. I just want u to know that we hold a magnifier and look through it at our selves and everything looks so big ... true story :)
Another thing i wanted to share, i was/ still somehow convinced that I am an ugly , abnormal, freak, dirty, filthy ...... etc person and i always was convinced that if ppl would know what i have done and what i was able to do they would think the same about me , but surprisingly enough, ppl i told them about my reality, they didn't think about me in that horrible way. And they made me understand why i acted in a bad/ not okay way.
And i know how u feel regarding the listening. It's a great explanation from u. Thank you a lot for answering me.
All the love to u Celaeno, the loveliest person ever
@Celaeno Thank you so much for being so honest. I have always felt so scared after that ugly part of myself surfaces. It's good to know that other people also have those parts and that we are all working on accepting them (but of course not condoning them).
@UmbrElla1413, it's okay, you're definitely not alone in this matter. Sending you many hugs for today!
Wow! this is crazy but reading your post it almost completely describes me.
@Celaeno I love the thought that went into choosing your nickname. You are always so thoughtful and smart :) Where do you gain this level of knowledge and sophistication? Tell me your secrets haha
I'm serious though. That is so creative and beautiful. You describe things beautifully. You're so eloquent. I adore you. There should be a fanclub for you.
@discreetAcres6234, thank you for the praise, but you're so kind yourself, darling. Always thoughtful, always honest and compassionate, supporting others around you. I know that it can be exhausting, but you are a strong and magnificent - your character is showing in the loving words directed to those in pain, discreetly raising them up from valleys of self-doubt. I'm glad that we have a chance to talk ❤️
*hugs*
@Celaeno :) A fan club! :) as mentioned by @discreetAcres6234 ! :) I will be in it! :)
@yellowAcres2128, a fan club, really? I'm touched, but maybe we will create a Hopeful Club of Depression? ^^; I don't think I'm an interesting enough topic to arrange meetings about me ^^;
Best wishes!
@Celaeno :) you are fighting yours so well, dear. you are. :) *hugs*
@Celaeno Is not a good drawing, but I had to
(also the picture is really bad there was no much light)
@Zarabi, it's great! I'm amazed that I inspire you enough to create this. Even with this lightening I can see your skills. Thank you for sharing it ^^
My name is Ila which is an abbreviation of my first name, I'm turning 18 next week (woah) and I've had depression since I was 14. It had ups and downs, it's getting better now and I try to fight it how I can. I love music - like, crazily - I'm a programmer and I'm addicted to sushi xD
@ZaraSmiles thank you for tagging me, awesomeanie (forgive me the lack of colours! I'm on mobile) ❤️
@Ila Great to know u IIa! i'm crazy about music too :) what is ur favourite band/ singer/ song/ type?
@Ila, can I ask what's the best part of programming to you? Do you have a favourite language?
Also, can't wait for your birthday - we will throw you such an awesome party here ^^
@Celaeno I have to say, your sweetness always amazes me and you seriously manage to make me excited about my birthday, knowing there are such kind souls on the adult side is so good!
My favourite part about programming surely is creating something from nothing. When I wrote my first C++ program I felt like I could do anything, it was so impressive to see the computer doing what I was deciding.
The best language in my opinion is CSS - it surely lacks of logic instructions and clauses but I LOVE designing and styling! PHP is pretty cool as well.
Thanks for tagging me in this guys :)
I'm DA. I'm 19 years old, dreading turning 20 in a few months. I guess I should call TV show and movie watching my main hobby since I do this a great amount. My favourite TV shows are currently The Flash, Gotham, and How To Get Away With Murder. I also love American Horror Story and get really excited watching Lady Gaga on the current season of it. Some people might think I spend too much time watching shows and movies but seeing as I'm aspiring to have a career in that industry it's pretty much my life.
Fun fact: I have a cat named Kurt (named after my favourite character from Glee, Kurt Hummel. Everyone asks me if I named him after Kurt Cobain and my answer is always no lol) He was originally named Felicity (after Felicity Smoak from Arrow) but then the vet told us that he's actually a boy so then he became Kurt.
I believe depression is something I have been living with my whole life and I'm still figuring out a way to get through it. I used to think there was a cure but I'm starting to realise that maybe I can't fix this, maybe I need to live with it. That's not okay with me but I don't really have any other choice but to find a way to live with it instead of trying to remove it.
This is fun :) I'm smiling :)
@discreetAcres6234
pleasure to read your post DA, question and sorry if it will bother u, please skip it :D what is your relation ship with Mirror? do you love it? u hate it? how do u feel looking at it? does it scare you? do u look in the eyes of the person reflecting in the mirror? do u talk to ur self by mirror? do u like what u see? or do u hate? do u feel connected? or looking into different person? or it's such a minor thing that doesn't mean anything to u?
@politeCup86 that is actually a very interesting question.
I feel like my relationship with the mirror changes depending on how I feel that day. There are some days where I will look at myself in the mirror and admire my outfit or hair or make up. But other days I can't stand looking at myself because everything looks wrong to me and I don't like the image I'm looking at. Most of the time I hate the mirror. But there are some moments where I appreciate something that I'm looking at.
Looking at the mirror comes with a feeling of unease sometimes. You just never know what thoughts my brain will come up with in that moment. I think walking past mirrors in shops is the worst though, I never seem to look right in them, I despise shop mirrors.
It's hard to describe if I feel connected to the person I see in the mirror. The short answer is no, I don't. It's like looking at someone I don't know. It's more like looking at a thing than looking at a person.
Thank you for the questions :)
I have a random question for you: if you could live anywhere in the world, where would you want to be?
@discreetAcres6234
Thanks for the great honest answer, and i do relate a lot, next time when u will look in the mirror well u say Hi from me to the beautiful DA, maybe good morning every morning with a smile
, mirror thing is something great to read about,mirror can be a curing habit ![]()
okay, for your question i'm not going to choose a country bcuz i lack sense of belonging to anywhere, not even to planet earth (i think i'm an alien hahaha) but i will say to country called 7 cups, i actually dreamt about this many times, where ppl r kind and respecting, where everyone is acceptable, where no one touch anyone, where u have ur privacy, and i can just Be, and feel safe that no one is going to touch me! i'm sorry for this answer but i honestly don't wish for any place but an abusefree place
@politeCup86 I can do that :)
I relate to you in a way on this. Although I have places where I would love to be, I'm not sure the whole sense of belonging thing will happen. I feel like an outsider pretty much everywhere. I can like a place but never feel like I belong there, if that makes sense.
I was lucky enough to visit New York one year and I felt so happy to be there. It was everything I dreamed of and more. I felt like that was where I wanted to be but I didn't feel like I fit in. Now I'm at uni in this huge city and it's easy for me to feel like I blend in but I still don't feel like I belong. It's like I'm here but there is no real place for me. Will I always feel out of place? Who knows
@discreetAcres6234 well you sum it up for me in more accurate way
you have a nice way or writing btw
and i donnow if we will ever belong to any place, but we belong here and fit here and which is more than enough for the time being ![]()
@politeCup86 aw that's sweet of you :) I try my best to write coherently.
I feel like the sense of belonging happens when you feel like you've settled down. When I think about belonging I always think of being somewhere away from this country, a nice house/apartment, a job that I enjoy, and good friends to keep me company. Maybe that's what belonging really is to me and it will take time to get there.
To me it sounds like your place of belonging is more about being surrounded by lovely people. No locations, just comfort being around people. That's great too :) We all need kind people who will treat us right and be there for us.
@discreetAcres6234
oh well said! that's exactly how i feel, it's all about loving ppl whom u can feel safe with, bcuz safety is a key for me... it's great to know that u really get what i mean bcuz i know that thoughts rush faster in my head and words don't keep up and don't give the required meaning in my head , lol, it happens a lot in real life... i really donnow if that is even true.
what u have pictured is a very lovely pic of belonging, and i see it very achievable, u made me imagine it while reading it and smile :) so what is ur dream job ?
@politeCup86 You shouldn't be afraid of not making sense. Your thoughts make perfect sense to me so far. The reason I explain myself so much is to make it easy for others to make sense of what I'm saying. And I'm also pretty good at reading between the lines and digging deep into meaning (although sometimes I over analyse things too much and my brain goes a bit crazy)
I'm happy to hear that I made you smile :) I would love to work in the movie and TV industry. I have so many ideas and I get so passionate about them, writing them gives me great joy. So writing for tv and movies is definitely at the top of my list but I would also love to do things like directing, producing, and maybe even some small cameo roles (maybe somewhere down the line I'll have the confidence to take on bigger roles on screen but I'm just not at that point yet. Even though acting is fun)
What about you? What is it that you actually do? Do you have a job? Would you like one? What are your aspirations?
@discreetAcres6234
Well that is such a nice career you are planning, and i love your plan DA! so glad for your dear.
I do have a job in logistics/ shipping field which i'm not a fan of it at all :D
About aspirations, well i'm stuck for more than 6-7 years (i lost track) with NONE but for now let's say to have normal BMI and get mentally better, and to find my goals in this life :D
@politeCup86 that's more than okay. Many people don't know what they want to do with their lives job wise these days, it's a common struggle.
A lot of people end up doing whatever just to pay the bills or doing jobs that pay well which they hate. I have chosen the more difficult path in life, going after what I'm passionate about. I'm pretty sure a lot of people think I'm reaching too high but I don't think I could be satisfied any other way.
Being an adult seems difficult haha
@discreetAcres6234
you are such an ambition person and nothing is high for you! you can do what ever you want :D and the fact that you are determind and know what you what is a great accomplishment , and i'm proud of you that you are in this level!
well being an adult can be difficult but i think sometimes it is easier than being a child lol
and i believe in U DA! nothing is too difficult for you
yes we do have a bad days but u always shine even in ur bad days
@politeCup86 I feel like the people who read my stuff in class and the people I meet online are the ones who support my dreams the most. No one else really seems to do that, it's like they're expecting me to fail. Thank you for supporting my crazy :)
Life as a whole is hard lol
You shine brighter
@discreetAcres6234, you made me so happy when I've read it through your message and saw your annotation about smiling! Now I have a grin, too ^^
I understand that watching many TV shows can be regard as "obsessive" and "unhealthy", but sometimes we need to turn our brain off for a little while when the only emotion it transmits to us is pain and torment. I think it can be a really nice distraction, as long as one doesn't treat it as a mean of escaping from reality and addressing the real problems. And you know how amazed I am by your chosen studies - I believe that you will be a magnificent, productive screenwriter in the future ^^
(About Kurt - I immediately thought about Glee ^^). Btw, may I ask what was the nicest part of the last year for you?
All my love!
@Celaeno so happy to hear you smiling :) I'm smiling again
I don't have an obsession with watching things, I think it's more of a hobby and strong interest. It brings me joy. I've spent this weekend catching up on shows that I haven't been watching since they came back in fall so I'm happy about that :) I missed them so much. I'm glad you see my studies and me in such a way. I don't think my friends ever thought me I'd be good at something.
(haha someone who actually thinks of glee. I've heard the name Kurt Cobain too much. And when I explain that it's from glee they've never heard of glee)
Normally I would find this question hard to answer but last year had one very memorable, special event happen that stays up there as a highlight. I flew over to Canada to meet my best friend in person. It was a crazy, brave, and insane move but everything ended up being fine, even though I was severely freaking out before hand. I also met another person we were friends with but things ended up very badly between us and her, but now we have great stories to tell about her and we didn't let her ruin the trip for us so it's all good. We got to spend so much time together in person and it just made me love her even more. I'm so happy to have met her. Hopefully the next time we are together again will be sometime soon.
Sending you love back <3
So i'm Polite
and i'm 29 female from middle east!
Hobbies music playing & lsnng, singing, movies & swimming.
Random Fact: i'm addicted to 7 cups! it's so true! another thing i'm addicted to one old perfume called creation and i have putting it almost daily since i was 10
i can't help it
I had depression since i was 8 maybe probably the whole 7 cup knows about it already :) and cause of death lol was abuse by my lovely mom
, result was obesity my whole life plus million problems on top of that, well at least i know NOW that nothing was my fault and i understand that it's not easy to be abused every single day for years and years, but it created a kind beast named polite cup
I rejected love my whole life and only by 7 cups i learned how to accept it back again!
You're a strong one, @politeCup86. Even if only I know the part of your story, I can imagine how much you had to overcome to learn to accept yourself again. I'm so glad that this community helped you with accepting love as an emotion once again. You deserve it, as any other human does. I'm proud how far you've come. Sending you my best hugs!
@Celaeno
thanks a lot for your encouraging honest words to me, and i send it all back to you dear and much much more, you are such a warm soul that warms everyone around, HUGS :D

Hi @adaptableHuman6878! It's nice to meet you, lovely. Does "AHS" refer to the "American Horror Story"? Also, may I ask what's your favourite band?
Best wishes!
