My Experiences of Loneliness
Hi everyone! My name is Sya. You might have seen me around this forum. I bring up my sharing today to fill our times here so feel free to continue reading.
My life has not been something that pleasant me the most. I've always been on a rocky paths. Even my chilhood years were not as exciting and as memorable as everyone else had. I'm rather an introvert person. I have only brothers for my siblings and with that said I'm the only daughter in the house. I have a hard time getting along with my family since my parents always busy due to works and big age gaps between my brothers.
At school, I had a hard time getting along with others and making new friends. Even if I had problems, I tend to keep it all to myself because eventhough I was still a child at that time, I was well awared that my parents were exhausted from works. Reaching out to my siblings seemed impossible since I barely talked to them.
Time flies fast. Life thought me a thing and another. It hit me hard when I realized that I'd been lonely for a long time. Not going to lie, sometimes loneliness love to hit me out of nowhere. Most of the time, I found myself crying in a private space because I feel really lonely. Socializing was really a struggle for me not to mention being vulnerable. Although I even had an achievement that I was eager to share, I just kept it alone after realizing I had no one to talk to.
My personality is pretty different from others as well. My mom keep bragging me to change my personality and have same interest like others. I felt like I was not understood and supported by my family members. I'd been in romantic relationships too. I felt pity for my ex to accept me in that state,lost and hopeless.Our relationship didn't last long after that. I respected his decisions to leave but I never knew how lonely and sad I was to get over it.
Coping with loneliness is something that I'm still trying my best. Yeah, I know it's not as easy as it said but there's nobody will gonna do it for you. A small step like talking to my pets make me less lonely. They are the creature which could bring my smile like always. I have a few closed friends that I treasure the most so I always check up on them and have a little chit-chats and it works on me. Sometimes I listen to relatable musics to calm myself and boost my moods. And about my family, I've been trying to engage conversations with them even if it is a small chats. A small effort still counts.
Why do I share you my experiences? Well, it's because I want you to know that you're not alone in this fight. Maybe our struggles are differents but it doesn't mean that you're efforts and emotions shouldn't be recognized and aren't valid. You're still you and special in the way you are. Remember that every good thing takes its own time to come. Patience is a beautiful act of kindness we could do to ourselves and I really believe in you.

~What are hurdles that you've been through or currently facing to overcome your loneliness? Feel free to share your experiences with us :) ~
( For the one who's been reading until the very end of this thread, I want to thank you so much and appreciate your time reading this :D )
You are really amazing for sharing this, I am still struggling to admit out loud to my family that I am lonely and that this loneliness is eating at me every day, I had a bad school experience and since then I lost all my friends and didn't manage to make new ones, is scary, and I can relate to this. When I see that I am getting older and still couldn't change any of this is starting to creep on me this awful feeling, yeah sometimes these things need time and your patience and courage to find the right people, but is not easy, so.. yeah, I wish you all the best and that's my rambling haha🤗

Hi Sya . Thanks for sharing your story . I personally relate with many of the stuff you wrote . I too am an introvert and have difficulty in mixing with people . Right now , I have absolutely no friends in my real life . I feel lonely all the time and wish if I had just one friend to share my stuff with . Anyways , it is what it is .
Once again thanks for sharing your views . Take care .
Thank you so much for sharing your experience it makes me feel like I'm not alone. I've been struggling with loneliness for my whole life but recently it got really bad since I got married. All my friends left me and my sister in law has created a rift in my family separating me from them. I've been trying to find peace with myself and recently have been back receiving help on here and put on anti depressants. I know things will get better with time.
Hey thank you so much for sharing :) you’re not alone and we got ur back XD
I’ve been really lonely lately and I relate to your story. I’ve been looking on tinder to try and find someone but I’m beginning to think I’m looking in the wrong place and I am so tired of this shit I don’t know what to do
@SamiJane2 I'm so sorry to hear that. It's ok take your time. You need it. * sending peace and strength*
Online dating is like dumpster diving. You shift through alot of trash before you find something worth keeping. Just keeplooking and don't give up. I met my love on plenty of fish. Try spreading out to different websites
Hello Sya! Your story sounds so very familiar. I think I know exactly how you feel. I've struggled a lot as a child too, and I don't have many happy memories of it either. I only have an older brother, we're four years apart, but sometimes, I still feel there's a gap between us. I swear, when I was younger, he would purposely make me cry. We immigrated to Canada when I was 5, so both my parents had to work to raise us. I didn't see much of my parents except during breakfast, dinner and weekends. I've had to struggle with traumas by myself and I couldn't share it with my family. As a Chinese family, my parents did not understand what Depression was, so when I was first diagnosed in Grade 5, my family doctor couldn't give me any prescriptions because he said I was too young. I waited until high school before I had medication to help me. By then, I've experienced even more trauma that I kept all to myself. To this day, in my mid-30s now, I still keep my feelings to myself and not share with my family. I think the main reason rooted back to when I was in Grade 9. A psychologist had suggested I tell my family about the struggles and my feelings once. During that time, my mum was fighting off the H. Pylori bacteria and I remember what my brother once told me. We were on our way to meet up with my parents for lunch on a weekend, my brother driving, stopped at the light, he told me, "Mum is like that because of being worried about you." I remember this as if it happened yesterday, remembering the place and time, the expression on his face, his tone.. Ever since then, I haven't said to word to my family about how I feel and what I felt depressed about. Nowadays, sometimes, my mum comes to me and asks, as she can sense that something is bothering me. But, I still won't reveal much and I usually just stay in my computer room with headphones on, listening to music. Or if I don't need to work, I'd just be in bed all day instead. Since I turned 27, the feelings of loneliness gets worse by the year. All my life so far, I've only dated once, and that was more than 12 years ago. The relationship lasted a year, I met him during my first year of university, away from home. When my depression hit me again, I couldn't handle to continue with university for the second year, so I went home. He was 3 years older, and stayed to finish his degree. With the long distance, only chatting on phone, we eventually grew apart. I met up with him when he went home during winter break, and that was it. He had already met someone else at the University, he got married to a Japanese girl the next year, and they've moved back to Japan after he graduated; currently have 2 sons. I tried to keep a friendship with him after our breakup, but his then girlfriend, didn't like it. So, I've stopped talking to him. After this relationship, that was it. That is why, as I'm getting older now, I feel more and more lonely. I just know that I do wish to have a partner/husband sometime in my life. Seeing how things are going now, I'm only afraid that there's no hope for that to ever happen in my life in the future.
Sya, there's one thing with your situation that looks better than mine. At least you have a few close friends. I have absolutely no friends at all. I'm the true loner~
@kdsyahirah
@Jaeteuk *sending love* It must be hard on you to go through all of it. How's your life after that relationship? Yeah, it's true that I got friends that still standing besides me. Everyone will meet their true friends and real partner when the times come. You're much stronger than I am.
After that relationship, it took me about a year to get over it and I haven't met anyone else since then. Not even dates. Since I don't have any friends, I've always hoped to have a partner/husband who accepts me as a person (with the past and my depression), so that I have someone to share my feelings with. Rather than my current situation, where I have no one to talk to and still keeping thoughts to myself. Only place I can share my true feelings is here, in 7 Cups. But it'll be better if there's physically someone by my side.
@kdsyahirah
@Jaeteuk I wish you found the right one for you. I'm glad to know that being here helped you out.
I hope to meet someone before I turn 40, still have 6 years left.. I've recommended others to 7 Cups, but not sure if any of them have joined. This is my own outlet and support~
@kdsyahirah
I have experienced loneliness mostly because of my social anxiety. Holding conversation is difficult for me and I am shy, quiet, socially awkward so social situations is just scary for me. I feel more lonely among people than by myself. I always feel like running away from it. When I feel lonely I automatically blame myself for not being an outgoing and confident person. Like it's my fault that I don't have friends. That's a self sabotaging way of thinking, so I'm trying to change that.
