Weekly Check In March 3 - 11

[A gif of a mouse blinking with huge ears, text underneath I'M ALL EARS!]
March 3rd is WHO's World Hearing Day
It's a day to reduce stigma related to hearing loss and to encourage good hearing and ear health.
Have you or anyone you know struggled with hearing loss?
Do you do anything to maintain or check your ear and hearing health?
How are things going for you this week?
*Note The disability team is planning on posting check ins on Tuesdays for a while. So next week's is planned to start March 12.

@AffyAvo I don't suffer from hearing loss, but I'm doing OK and I'm happy to be here. I hope you're doing better.
I’m good
Does having permanent tinnitus count? If so then yes, I've had some hearing loss for a while now.
I try to keep my ears clean generally...TBH I could do without them. I could especially do without the inside parts: cochleas, eardrums, the whole enchilada. It would mean total deafness but considering what my condition is like, being deaf is something I could live with.
@slowdecline48 Tinnitus is nasty, do you use any white noise or anything, does listening to noise help you?
Listening - One Step At A Time!
@MistyMagic Yeah. I do use my earbuds fairly often...plenty of music. Almost anything other than quiet classical or "easy listening" will do. Eastern Orthodox chanting is especially good for drowning out the reeeeeee.
As for how things are going this week: my lower back is hurting, today my guts are being foul, I am at the orthopedic place right now, about to see someone...& it's only Monday.
@AffyAvo Thanks for posting Affy!
Have you or anyone you know struggled with hearing loss?
I have one of my stories. My Gran was always hard of hearing ever since I knew her. She hated using hearing aids and we would walk up to her and wave to get her attention. At the time I didn't realise that we all lose our hearing as we get older, even my dogs!
Do you do anything to maintain or check your ear and hearing health?
Not really, basic hearing checks, can I hear the tv etc.
How are things going for you this week?
They are great so far, the weather is pretty awful though :/

@AffyAvo
My dad has struggled with hearing loss all of his adult life!
I took American Sign Language as my foreign language in college. Best foreign language! I have used it a number of times working in the general public!
@Kristynsmama That's awesome!
I had 1 class where someone who was in a sign language program came to talk to us a bit about her experiences and she also tried to teach us some. I had trouble just copying the signs for the alphabet let alone retain them but time was limited. I do remember the sign for pie after a funny story she shared! Maybe I can learn the alphabet on my own someday. Videos are better than paper printouts!
