What coping mechanisms do you find helpful to ease the daily pain or stress caused from your disability?

Hey everyone! Despite the daily stresses and pain a disability can cause someone, it can be a huge relief to find peace in a coping mechanism. Although I personally don't have a disability, I do have Tourette's Syndrome, and I often find that if I distract myself from my tics, it can be help immensely. Some coping mechanisms I personally find helpful are sketching and art in general, writing, listening to calming music, reading a hard-to-put-down book, watching an interesting movie, and even skiing when the season is around! However, everyone is different. What coping mechanisms do you find helpful?

@Emily619

I find the best music to listen to with a friend is anything you both like. It can range from Radiohead to Taylor Swift!

During the better times, getting out and doing things I enjoy while trying to pace myself appropriately.

Lower days, netflix, baths, cuddles with my husband, extra sleep.

I write, mainly poetry. Usually not about my disability, It's nice to be free, to not have my disability control just one part of me, what I write.

My stress is situational due to my bad hearing. If I find I'm dealing with someone who can't be respectful, I quite be on my way. There isn't a need for me to educate them, to engage with them, to try to help them understand, I just go about my day and forget about them.

I usually try to push through whatever I'm doing, then rest. If I complete a task I feel satisfied. If I stop because I don't feel well I'll have a hard time relaxing.

I watch a lot of movies, it helps me because in that moment, it feels like I'm in that world and living someone else's life. It's nice to escape reality sometimes

If its depression or emotionally related ive found it helpful calling the samaritans at times.....ive found going for a run helpful, sometimes when im not motivated watching a good comedy special I found a million of them on netflix......ordering some nice takeaway.....thinking about taking a break having a holiday..... being nice to yourself whatever that is to you.....and then think about sometimes sharing those things with somelne you havnt seen in a long time
