When did you first know you had a problem with Binge Eating Disorder?
Since I was a small child this started. I used to hide food and eat secretly and binge daily and this has never stopped till now I'm 28. I binge more than once a day. I was only introduced to the name of : binge eating disorder like 1 year back. Hope will reach a solution with my therapist
It took me 7 years to notice although I noticed that I gained weight. I keep going in and out of restrictive diets on an attempt to lose weight but I keep binging every now and then. I binge when I can't deal with what I feel, which happens pretty much everyday.I hope my psychologist and I will find a solution to it too.
I guess it was when I started at uni and discovered takeout... also that my parents couldn't control how much I ate any more and I just started shovelling it in. Nightmare.
It took me 5 years to notice that I had a problem. I always had a strange relationship with food and when i was 14 i started to have really bad problems with dealing with it. Then depression came up. When I was 16 my parents got me into therapy and my therapist helped me a lot, I'm not totaly recovered but I'm much better now!
When I wasn't able to stop myself from eating spoonfuls of sugar because there was no candy or sweets and I needed sweets. And this was after half a bag of potato chips and lots of other food. But eating sugar by the spoonful at 2 am was a bit of a low point.
oh gosh, i forgot about eating frozen peas straight out the freezer when i ran out of everything else... definitely a low point :/
When there were no sweets I'd often do the same thing. There were days when I needed to hide it so I would put 1-3 tablespoons of sugar in my tea or sneak the lime juice that no one used and drink it along with another 1-3 tablespoons of sugar. They still don't know what happened to the lime juice.
When I moved to a new country and because of cultural differences i ended up spending a lot more time on my sofa by self with a full fridge in the house. I wish I could go back and tell myself not to fall into that habit
this really began for me when i was like 13, i had always enjoyed food and eating, but i was always normal sized. as i went through puberty i gained around 15 pounds, like a normal person. and i freaked out. i have now been dealing with this for almost 4 years. i am just now recovering but it's so hard :-/ any tips????
@rileypoo98 - my biggest tips are:
1. Take it one day at a time. Celebrate your victories and move past your slips. A quote that really helped me in recovery was "Today I will do my best. If I have a good day, I will be proud of myself. If I have a bad day, I will not dwell on it, I will forgive myself, I will put it behind me and I will continue to move forward in my recovery" Also, "Strive for progress, not perfection"
2. Be forgiving and kind to yourself. It can be easy to beat yourself up about things, but instead, try talking to yourself as you would to a dear friend in your situation. You deserve kindness and love from yourself, as well as others.
3. Don't be afraid to ask for help and support when you need it. Recovery is really flipping hard and trying to do it all alone makes it even harder. Whether that support is from family/friends, a therapist, or the community here, just try to reach out when you need it. There are always people who want to help.
Hope that helps, and feel free to reach out if I can support you in any other way. Take care, you can do this!
I was anorexic for 3 years from freshman to junior year of high school. First it started because I was in a sport where it was easier to do when you were a smaller size. After that was done I liked how small I was so I just kept not eatingbreakfast orlunch. I ended up weighing 86 pounds when I was supposed to be around 120. For sophomore and junior year of high school I wanted to be skinny because someone told me "you're stomach shouldn't go past you boobs... That's justdisgusting". Senior year I was in recovery because it got to the point where I would get really light headed from just going up the stairs and nearly passing out after getting out of bed. I was weak and fragile. I successful gained weight to where I'm 100 pounds
I still think about not eating because I like when I'm able to see my abs and the outline of my hip bones.. It's hard to not go back to your old habits. I guess the expression is true, old habits do die hard.
@carefultiger1531 - you're absolutely right that old habits die hard, but you can stay vigilant to keep them away. It sounds like you've made an incredible amount of progress in healing already, and like you are on a great track towards health. You can do this!
I have emotional eating disorder anytime I feel bad and I hate or cant control my situation I stop eating. I have had this all my life and really dont like it but love the results went from 250 to 100 in less than a year too fast. Made my folks worry but I really didn't care. I have went from 175 to 145 in less than 2 months this is my now status. i dont binge eat just refuse to eat. And refuse to eat. Thanks for listening.
@unhappysometimes716 - I know it can be easy to get caught up in the results and think that they justify the rest, but it sounds like you know that what you're doing is really dangerous. Have you ever talked to anyone about it? It seems like you have already identified the root / your main trigger (feeling out of control), which is awesome. But the next step is to find other ways to deal with feeling out of control or other coping mechanisms that work for you so that you can focus on healthy patterns, instead of unhealthy ones. Take care
Since high school. I would often eat by myself so no one could judge what and how I was eating. I knew it was unhealthy but I couldn't control my cravings.
