Small Victories

Happy Recovery Month! As part of our celebrations, let's share some small victories here and in the feed!

-----

In eating disorder recovery, sometimes it's the little, day-to-day victories that mean the most, so I wanted to create a thread for us to share those.

I'll start. Yesterday at a football watch party, I let go of my hang-up about cream-cheese based dips (I know, weirdly specific, but there it is) and ate some delicious cheesecake dip that a friend made that normally I wouldn't have let myself have. Yum!

Today I had a snickers bar, my favorite of all times! My mind was saying "great, now you need to skip lunch, and probably consider if you deserve something else before dinner" and I was terrified it would make me binge eat after I got home, but no... I'm actually going to make lunch, I have my snack planned out and I'm going for a fear food at dinner.

And guess what.... I'm not as guilty and anxious as I thought i'd be.

My small victory was cooking something more than a small amount pf pasta for dinner last night. I made rosemary, garlic & olive oil marinated chicken & I enjoyed it.

Despite having almost unbearable urges over the last week or so, I haven't given in to any harmful coping methods! Though I'm really stressed out and overwhelmed with school, I'm trying to hold onto this small victory.

Today I cooked a full weeks worth of meals. I wasn't able to motivate myself to eat any of them today, but for the rest of this week I will have premade food, which is one less obstacle. Also, cooking all day meant I was in the kitchen surrounded by food and it wasn't overwhelming to me.

That's so great, and removing the obstacle for the week of having to decide what to eat and prepare it should make the rest of the week easier. Way to go!

Yesterday I consider it victory bcuz i was eating out dinner with family and a looooot of delicious meals were order and since i can eat only few bites after gastric bypass surgery i usually feel very sad when i see a lot of food and i don't eat at all. But yesterday i decided to not care and take one bite from each dish so i can taste it all :D i was happy to be able to do that :)

Thanks @Anomalia for tagging me to this wonderful thread. Can i also tag? @cadence

@politeCup86, that's a huge victory! Well, at least I feel like it is!

I know after gastric bypass, a person's appetite can dramatically decrease, and that can make eating feel like a chore more than anything. But I'm glad you got to go out and enjoy many different kinds of foods! What was your favorite food you tried?

@Cadence thanks cadence yes it decreases but missing the food is the worst feeling in the world. Missing eating large amount and binging. But i will find ways to be above that.

Favourite one was crusted chicken with macaroni :) and yes it is a huge victory :D thanks for knowing what i mean
