Yelling

When is it ok to yell at someone?

@jesusredeemedme2425

I am so curious to see what people say about this one, but I'll start us out

There are the obviously ok time like emergencies and worries of safety (yelling to get them out of the road or out of a burning building etc.) a good question to ask after that is when something qualifies as an emergency of safety, and do any emotional emergencies count. (Yelling at someone so they don't dissociate, to stop them from bad thoughts)

After that when it's loud and you can hear start yelling.

Otherwise I don't think it's okay to yell at people, and it's something I have worked on my whole life to no be someone who yells.

@jesusredeemedme2425

I have seen what happens when someone yells in anger or just any non-positive emotion. It's scary from both sides (sadly as a child and young teen I would yell occasionally) and it's scary to be yelled at and to see how people react to you yelling.

I have seen it from both sides and an outside perspective and liked non of it, hated all of it and wanted to never force what I felt when it happened to me or what I saw when I did it on other again, and so I worked very very very hard to stop.(not that I ever did it often but still sometimes it's harder to break a habit you do 1 a year than a habit you do every day)

Idk if that made it clearer or less

Glad it made it clearer

Yeah. . . I am sorry that happened to you. Wish I could hug it all away but it doesn't work like that sadly, but hugs anyway!

My husband and I will holler at each other to get the other's attention, ask for something, etc.

I can see where that's not something that everyone would be ok with, but we are, and we grew up in families where that's the norm.

I don't have the energy to be running up and down stairs as much as I have questions, requests, etc.

So I think it's ok, but the person on the receiving end needs to be ok with it.

I'm just going to add my two cents. Shouting isn't a great way of communicating. It's too easy to blurt things out..

But as someone that hates confrontation and normally puts up with being ignored or not being prioritised or associated with being quiet, so won't rock the boat...

There are a few times when I have royally snapped because I have my limits and people are constantly ignoring my boundaries.

Usually I can let it wash it over me but if there's other external factors. It will just eventually bubble over and I'll feel the need to protect myself from the disrespect.

When it's not done in an angry way, you can yell at someone to get their attention or if you are excited about something. If it's an intruder or someone who potentially can harm you, you can yell at them to go away.
