Echoes in the Dark Abyss
*****TW*****
I have no idea what I want to write… I have big, deep, sad, confusing emotions. It might just be a brain dump full of unrelated, confused, fragmented, disjointed thoughts… I hope you can all sort the wheat from the chaff.
The loneliness. Let’s start with that. It’s not just “I wish I were around people”, the normal kind of lonely. Have you ever been in a deep pit, where you can see absolutely nothing, the walls are closing in on you, you feel alone and scared and panicked and afraid? You don’t see a way out, not even a speck of light. You know there are small comforts around you in the pit, water and food and a flashlight even, but you’re too paralyzed to see or use them. Strange noises surround you, haunting and confusing you, which make you cover your ears and scream from the loudness and shrillness and confusion. Bats fly at your face and their flapping wings beat you over the head. The noise, the static, the voices that tell you you’re stuck there and will never, EVER, get out. The never-ending torrent of sound and music and every form of noise and words and thoughts and panic you can think of. Not just minutes of this torture. Not hours. YEARS. Decades. The darkness, the audio torture, the loneliness, the panic and terror and sheer frustration. The absolute NOTHINGNESS, that turns to numbness in order to survive. Panic attacks. Paranoia. Anxiety. Restlessness. Fear. Terror. Bare survival.
And this is NOTHING compared to what I endure every single day.
Remembering him hurting me. Not being able to find love while actively seeking it out. Being ghosted by the people I called friend. Dealing with trauma and crisis and being on alert and being “on” at all times.
The strong desire to crawl into a man’s arms and curl up into a scared ball and just… rest there. Safe, able to let down my guard, cuddled and warm and able to let go.
The craving to have a place in my closet where I can curl up and hide and not exist, if only for a few minutes.
The days where my PTSD gets so bad, I inwardly flinch when a man walks near me. Waiting to be beaten.
Watching my friends fall in love, making me wistful of what could be, but I’m not allowed to have…
Being terrified of becoming diabetic (currently prediabetic)… I stopped caring, stopped trying. Wishing I’d get diabetes so my life can be cut shorter, and I don’t have to endure this cruel torture anymore.
Restlessly longing for more, reaching for dopamine. Happiness doesn’t even register in my brain anymore. Barely a blip in my synapses. My brain doesn’t light up when amazing things happen. My brain doesn’t function anymore.
The normal things people say just make me laugh inside. “It’ll get better. This will pass. Try breathing. See a therapist. Watch a movie. Try exercise.”
None of it works.
None of it.
The trauma. The pain. The fear.
If you’ve never endured it, you don’t understand.
Those dumb little fixes and “sending good thoughts” isn’t going to make my brain better. Isn’t going to make me forget when he tried to break my finger and threw me out of his car.
It’s not gonna bring my dad back.
It’s not going to reverse decades of mistreatment and abuse that make me flinch and want to hide.
Food is my drug.
The internet is my escape.
Book shopping is one of the only things that barely lights up the dopamine part of my brain.
I seek out love, but it eludes me. It runs faster than a gazelle, swift as an eagle.
Have you ever seen It’s a Wonderful Life, where he was shown what life would be like if he never existed? He pounds on doors, yells, screams… and no one can see him. No one can hear him. He’s invisible. He doesn’t exist.
And yet people ask me why I’m not smiling.
Because this world requires that your emotions be plastic. The real ones shoved in a hole and locked with a key and smashed into pieces, into oblivion.
Real emotions are forbidden.
Especially at church.
Shiny plastic people.
A theater mask at the masquerade.
No one sees your scars. Your pain is stopped at the door and refused entry.
It doesn’t matter where you are, where you go, your emotions are not welcome there.
And yet you’re expected to survive in a world that doesn’t want you. That can’t, won’t, accept your pain and your fear and your scars. The noise. The brokenness. Nothing less than perfection. Godhood, even. Our world that worships the perfect, the toned, the beauty, the flawless. It’s as if we must become God in order to be accepted.
No pressure.
And this is where I stand…
Curled into a ball. Sobbing. Invisible. Tortured. Broken. Traumatized. Terrorized. Flashbacks. Pain.
All while leading a normal life. Laughing, working, helping, loving. Pretending. Faking. Crying. Screaming. Silently…
And no one sees me. No one hears me. No one.
No one sees me…
@jesusredeemedme2425 i dont know how to help 😔 it seems to me like you need to...confront something, if that makes sense. Or someone, maybe. Like letting all this out may help, but it needs to be directed at something, so you can start moving past it. Does that make sense? But i dont know, honestly, i dont know. I dont have any rope to help you out of the pit. Im just kind of...company
What can I say? Hope. Breathe. Exist. Even when it's illogical, because a lot of times logic isn't the answer. Love. Something will change- for the better. Maybe it's not a pit, but a tunnel like they say. That doesn't make it better, but it helps the hope be a bit more real
Words fail us, Kiara, but I hope love wont.
@jesusredeemedme2425
Not sure what I say will help you climb out of the pit you are in but know this
I SEE YOU and wish there was something I could do to help ❤️🤗
Lots of hugs and love
@jesusredeemedme2425 thank you for sharing your story. I can feel the pain and desperation in every word. I'm so sorry all of this happened to you. And I also see no nice words are helping. So move over a little in that pit, I got some home made apple popsicles, a pack of tissues, a pirated movie and some fairy lights. If there is nothing we can do, it's time for a lit pity party. I can get us pizza too if you want 🍕❤️

Lolllll
That one made me smile <3
Yes please! Sausage pizza. Can we have apple pie with the crunchy crust too? Maybe some rainbow sherbet? Can everyone here come??? <3
@jesusredeemedme2425 absolutely 😁 Ordering up everything for us, if we are having a pity party, lets make it lit and scream louder than the bats do 😁

Hehe I have bats in my head. Sounds much cooler than the real thing hehe
@jesusredeemedme2425 well, it's humanity's key wisdom. If something screams, scream louder to establish dominance 😂
Ooh I like that hehe
@jesusredeemedme2425
We see you, and I love you 💝
Take care you need rest sleep well you'll feel better.
I want to help empower you, any way I can. Maybe empowering is what you seek more than anything. You never deserved to be hurt and traumatized like this
The loneliness of trauma. The fear that's always there. Constantly scanning, looking for threats, even with people you know. The longing and desire for someone, just one person you can feel safe with, not just physically but emotionally, mentally.
Therapists help with the gaping wounds but the cracks are still there and sometimes they still ooze. This isn't something that just goes away, it doesn't just "pass". The harsh reality is that there is no going back to before. You have to rebuild. Start with safety and stabilization. Equip yourself with grounding and mindfulness skills. Use movement to relieve tension. Establish routines and self care practices. Sounds easy doesn't it? It's not. It's hard work and takes time. It doesn't happen over night. Maybe look for a trauma informed therapist, look into EMDR therapy it might help.
I wish I could say do this and that and everything will be better but it's not that simple.
Someone mentioned empowering yourself. What do you feel would help you feel empowered? Have you ever thought of some self defense classes?
We do hear you. We do see you. ❤️
I have no idea. And I don’t have money for much of anything, even learning to play drums, which has been a dream of mine for years…
@jesusredeemedme2425 omg I wanted to learn that toooooo!!!! But mom did not appreciate my suggestion to practice on kitchen pots 😭
I’m really saddened to hear you’ve been suffering like this for so long. Even though I can only infer parts of the story, I can relate in many ways to the emotional landscape in your message.. of the real despair, confusion and overstimulation (the shrill noise), and complete sense of exhaustion beyond exhaustion you’ve arrived at after years and years or searching for something - an idea, a loving presence - that could relieve at least the worst aspects of the pain you’re experiencing and bring genuine hopefulness.
I appreciate you for having the courage to express your truth unapologetically and not conform to a plastic culture. Maybe you’re right about our current world and its focus on appearances rather than reality/something healing and meaningful. To reject superficiality is in a way to truly honor your experience, which is the spirit of reconnection. I know it’s easier said than done.. I’m saying this just as much for myself as I am for you.
It seems like no one is validating your experience, and hence the feedback people have always given feels so ignorant and out of touch. It would be kinder if they could just offer presence without trying to change you, which is supposed to be the basic orientation of listeners on this site. I believe your experience is valid, a reflection of all you’ve endured, and that you deserve the utmost respect as someone who’s had to shoulder so much. I understand why you wouldn’t want to listen to someone who can’t truly see you - who would they be to advise you if they can’t empathize or relate? That’s just more disconnection. Given all you’ve been through, you especially deserve compassion and understanding without judgment, no matter how well-meaning. And then I’m wondering if it would start to feel even a little less chaotic at times.
