Energy vampires...

Does anyone have that one friend that literally drains you every time you spend time with them? I have a few people in my life that I feel this intense exhaustion after I spend time with them. And I feel horrible because they are truly amazing people but for some reason my body my soul just can't take it at times... Just wondering if anyone has been through this or has any solutions on what to do so I'd still be able to spend time with them still. Thanks friends 🤙

Is there something they're doing that is particularly draining to you? Maybe something that needs to be addressed?

Honestly I think it's just their energy not that it's bad it's just a lot... Hyper in a way. Very talkative and always doing something.... Or .maybe it's just me lol idk I sometimes think I'm the "broken" friend...

Yes I have a few people I have in mind... I unfortunately have not mastered not letting them get to me. It literally takes my most of my mind power to not get affected. I'm curious, is there maybe something we identify with that person that's why they drain us?

Good question! I never thought of it that way. I know that I try to not let them effect me like that same as you. But it's inevitable it's gonna happen... Is it an empath thing you think?

@naturesbeauty1234

darling, I’ve dealt with people like that for what seems to be ages, all we can do is what’s best for our heart, soul , and body. As for advice lead with the heart not the mind. If they’re not meant for you it’s for a very good reason! I hope this helps some darling and that you do what’s best for you, wishing the best for you

Thank you love. I totally understand what you mean. I'm getting older and the circle is getting smaller and that's okay it's a lot more relaxing lol

Have you tried asking them about what they think about their behaviour? This is a TED video on how to raise issues: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtl5UrrgU8c

CBT might also help increase tolerance to certain things. Assertiveness is a communication skill, and it might also aid when situations require assertiveness. https://www.cci.health.wa.gov.au/Resources/Looking-After-Yourself/Assertiveness

This is a CBT workbook that may come in handy: https://thinkcbt.com/thinkcbt-workbook. Albeit, there are many other workbooks and guides on CBT out there, though best worked through with a professional or close partner for instance.

I believe you’re strong enough to set boundaries and protect your energy, even if it’s not easy. You truly deserve friends who give you support and peace instead of draining you. Remember, you’re not alone in this — we’re by your side here on 7 Cups.

@naturesbeauty1234 I've known a lot of people like that and the ones I was able to cut out, I did. They made it all about themselves and not about what was happening with me.

We all have issues from time to time, friendships should be equal, if you can, limit your time with them and take care of your needs, which are just as important.

Or introduce a lightheartedness to it, a fun activity so at least, you're getting less taxed, spending time with them.

I know a lot of people who Id categorise as good but cant spend long time with them. Its about interest. I like to be more in environments that are intellectually stimulating or meaningful in some way - whether Im the one contributing something to others or being on the receiving end... anything below that standard doesnt hold my attention for long. Its normal to feel that way. Your are not being selfish in choosing your people. Dont feel guilty. Use your gut feelings to guide your path.

Also: I clicked on your profile and read your bio and your line "even in darkness, our roots still grow" was so profound. Thank you for those powerful words! ❤️
