Lately, I’ve been dealing with this intense, almost uncontrollable anger that I can’t always explain. It's nothing new but its more like it resurfaced. ive always had trouble with my anger and just emotions in general, but when i moved away from my childhood home for hs i got better. now im back and its like slowly all the work ive put into myself was being undone. i cant remember much about my childhood, especially middle school and i dont know why. i hate the person im becoming and i want to stop feeling this way but i dont know how

@gentleTree1518 hello Tree, and thank you for sharing this. Navigating intense emotions, particularly anger, can be very challenging - the sheer strength and physicality of our response can feel overwhelmimg. I don't feel however that you're undoing the progress you've made, insofar as you're able to recognise that your anger is affecting you, and you're looking for means to address it. I've linked below to two resources that I feel would help - one is the 7cups self help guide to managing emotions; the other is the DBT growth path. Both include strategies for defusing difficult feelings and reducing our vulnerability to them:

@gentleTree1518 you're very welcome, Tree. It's just occurred to me that the Mindfulness chat group that meets on here might also be very helpful, as learning mindfulness skills goes a long way towards accepting and dispersing feelings of anger.

@gentleTree1518 show yourself compassion for your lapses ... and then renew your commitment for the change you want to work on.. if it got better before, it can happen again. Keep trying.

@gentleTree1518 Listen, I want you to know that it's completely okay to feel the way you do. Emotions, especially some variations of anger, can be profoundly complex and hard to understand, sometimes they resurface when we find ourselves in similar environments or even situations. I wonder if moving back to your childhood home brought up a ton of feelings you might've once believed were behind you.

It's also pretty common to have a hard time remembering parts of our childhood, particularly if those times were awfully challenging (depending on what you've been through, take it as you will) In psychology, I've personally read that our minds can protect us from painful memories, but you're most definitely not alone.

You’ve already shown a lot of strength by recognizing these feelings and wanting to address them. Addressing these emotions and feelings takes a lot of strength and accountability as well, it tells me you want to try your hardest to work on yourself, to strive and be better, and that to me shows incredibly good character. As it goes, whether or not this advice might be beneficial, you can explore these emotions further, perhaps through journaling or talking to someone you trust, depending on how comfortable you feel doing so. Finding healthy outlets for your anger, like physical activity or creative expression, can also be pretty beneficial as well. (Bonus Tip: If you'd like, you can try to take some time to reflect on what your triggers might be, and see how well different managements can work.) If you weren't seeking any advice, but someone that'll gladly listen or read, then you're allowed to disregard this as well. :)

Remember, it’s a journey, and it’s okay to take it one step at a time. You don’t have to have all the answers right now. Just know that you’re not alone, and it’s perfectly okay to seek help if you feel overwhelmed. You deserve to feel at peace with yourself. :) You've got this!
