Lost, Isolated, and Trying to Rebuild My Life

Hi, I really need someone to talk to. I’ve been feeling deeply depressed, anxious, and overwhelmed. My situation has been very isolating for years. Since the pandemic started, I’ve been mostly locked inside my house and restricted from going out. My parents are good but very overprotective, and because of this I’ve lost touch with the outside world. I don’t even know how to interact with people properly anymore. I feel socially disconnected and alone. Before all this, I was a happy and good student. But during the pandemic my father got very sick with COVID, and I was constantly anxious and scared. That fear and stress affected my focus, and I couldn’t give my 10th boards. I repeated 10th and worked extremely hard I studied around 12 hours daily and felt proud of myself. But after that, things went downhill. I took PCM and started well, but after shifting homes something changed in me. I became mentally exhausted, depressed, distracted, and completely inconsistent. I ended up wasting 11th and 12th. I even repeated 12th but still couldn’t study because I was so depressed, mentally low and had anxiety and I had no one to talk about this openly. It felt like I lost control of my life. Now I’m 20 and trying to restart through open schooling and preparing for competitive exams, but the gap feels huge and overwhelming. I constantly overthink, feel anxiety about my future, and regret my past. I feel like I’ve ruined my life. Sometimes I get suicidal thoughts and it scares me. I’ve been isolated for years, with no real friends or emotional support. I never had proper guidance or someone I could trust and talk to. It feels like I’ve been living in a cage since 2019. I want to get out of this, I want to improve, I want to build my life again but everything feels too heavy and confusing. I’m trying to study again and change, but my mind is filled with anxiety, self doubt, and depression. I feel lost and frustrated. I just need someone to listen, understand, and help me figure out how to move forward step by step.

@Reii9

You are very young you have time to make up for lost time or whatever you feel you missed.

I feel many went through things like that during covid. it sucks and feels heavy when you see a list of things you feel you need to catch up on but the beauty of it is it only takes one step at a time.  life as we become adults is confusing and a bit scary but like most things once we try it is not as bad or overwhelming as we made it out to be.

Thank you I really appreciate you saying that It honestly means a lot to hear, I’ve been feeling stuck for a long time, so even though I know I’m still young, it’s been hard not to feel like I’ve fallen behind, But what you said about taking it one step at a time really helped me see things a bit differently I guess I don’t have to fix everything all at once and I’m trying to slowly rebuild and get better even if it’s just small steps for now. Thanks again for taking the time to write this it genuinely helped 🤍

@Reii9 Hey, sorry you're feeling this way but I have to say 20 is just the beginning! Your entire life is in front of you, it's not too late at all. You can start with the idea that you still have all the time needed on your hands. Regretting the past at such an age is really energy-consuming, but you haven't wasted any of those years, you say yourself that you worked hard and you probably did your best under the given circumstances. I hope you've already consulted a specialist on depression and anxiety issues because sometimes it's chemical and I have a very positive experience with treating depression. That could give you an energy boost you need to build your life again. Anyway, it is definitely possible (and maybe unavoidable) that your life will get better and soon. I wish you all the best in this endeavor.

I really appreciate you taking the time to write this It actually felt genuine not just something said for the sake of it, I’ve been struggling with a lot of overthinking and feeling stuck, so hearing this helped more than I expected I’m trying to focus on moving forward, even if it’s slow, Thanks again for your words I really mean it

The world is entering a troubled time. Some sense this. Depressed see reality clearer. You can be depressed and live.

If you’re suffering any of these your vision is blurry your bodies normal functions don’t work normally, your constantly tired or unable to process you cant sleep or can’t feel or sense you may have a depressed nervous system. Any of these or your instincts say so see a doctor please.

I just reread your post you are please see a doctor.

You would not tell an anorexic to run a marathon you would say you need to learn to eat to do that. You need to accept you need to develop cognitive capacity before study is realistic.

Thank you for actually reading all that and replying honestly, i'm really grateful you said it straight instead of just stay strong, i've been trying to force study for my exams while my head is still foggy, tired, and anxious all the time and you're right it isn't working, i'm going to book an appointment this week and get checked properly before i push study again and thanks for looking out 🤍
