Spilling the Tea
I am here because I underwent a spinal surgery in May. I’ve been out of work since Feb, with moments of attempting to go back recently, that led me to quit. Though I do have another job in the making.
The days when I’m home I’m filled with anxiety and tears. The days I go do things I’m exhausted.
I feel like I’m failing in every aspect and wonder where did my life go?
Where did my free spirit go?
I don’t know if I’m victimizing myself and just falling into a crevice.
I found photos last night of when I ran 5k obstacle course. I was covered in the thickest mud that stained my skin for a few days. Biggest glowing smile on my face. I accomplished it. It was one of the toughest years I thought I had had. There’s was grief, life, and disappointments. That was what I needed. I was a warrior.
I need that h hope that things are going to improve. The anxiety with decrease and the energy will increase. 😢
And now look at you..... Gotta go get a mop to clean up the tea. (big cuppa)
@peachThinker662 ... oops...i hit post on last messege by accident
anyway, thx for spilling the tea. (sharing)
my 2 cents is that, MAY was not long ago. But it feels like forever when you can't get back on track. And that's the part that is probably driving you crazy I think, ans self sustanance too. 😔.
Depending on the severity of your back surgery, it's extremely important to take care of that first. It's been 5 months and that is not long at all for a bodily healing process. It's simply not anything you control. IT IS very hard to have to deal with the inconvenience of it for that long. (but u can do it)
Did your spinal surgery go well? Are you just in the healing process right now, or are there future surguries to worry about?
The healing process itself is naturally exhausting and then on top of that all the worries! It's no wonder you're exhausted. Try not to get too despondent, with the understanding, that this is going to take time, and you will develope a process to let it heal.
Do your best and hopefully this new job gives you space, relief and hope. It's hard when you're tired a lot but you'll adjust and keep bouncing back.
AND.. I'm really sorry it's being very hard on you. Hang in there. 💗
@IsayUncle
I’ve been wondering what a big cuppa is!!!
It went well. I’ve been home with out complications 🤞 My incision looks amazing-can hardly see it. It’s all those pesky muscles and nerves that need to re-group. Plus, I am making new bone (it was a fusion in my neck). I understand this takes a lot of energy. Rest, food, etc. I go for an additional X-ray in October to see if my body has started the process there.
It’s the “don’t over do it” and “you shouldn’t be so tired”. Ok? So what should I be doing?? (Just had blood work done-appt Thursday to “discuss results”)
Life is slllloooooowwww. I’m so used to hustle. Run around doing everything top to bottom plus working full time. I think I have too much time in my own darn head. I don’t know what to do for myself sometimes. How to occupy myself. And in those moments, I get down on myself. Start telling my self “I’m a loser” “a failure” “suck at life” but when I literally just challenged those thoughts and looked up the EXACT definitions, I don’t fit into them.
My neck is not in the best shape. I really really one more time REALLY hope there are no more surgeries in my future.
I’m really hopeful for the new job. I hope it helps physically and mentally.
Glad there were no complications.
I hear you. It is hard to slow down. I enjoyed listening to audiobooks when I was down because of surgery. I would say crochet or something, but some men don't like to do that sort of thing, but maybe play some chess or something.
Wait… Peach is a man???
@jesusredeemedme2425 No 🤭
I didn’t think so lol. But then, I get y’all’s genders wrong constantly. So… ya never know XD
@jesusredeemedme2425
@mytwistedsoul
I’m a bad azz female I guess 😂😂
oooh this made me laugh
you guys are the best
We try XD
Yes. That's it.
Oh no. I guess I read this wrong. Sorry!
It’s ok. It’s the innocence in the statements that made me chuckle.
What can I say ... Glad I could make you laugh a little 😊 I'm pretty good at putting my foot in my mouth that way, and am glad you can laugh at it with me.
Peach, your body will grow that bone to stabilize things pretty fast. You will soon quit feeling you're so fragile. I broke my back and for the first year waa afraid l would move wrong and snap it again. But our bodies are amazing at how they can heal! But yes, any surgery is the pits! Always! Ha. You are doing well, very well. You are just used to being rude open and feel like your letting yourself down! You're not! But slowing down puts you more in your head, l know that all too well. But before long, your life will be hitting on all cylinders again. Be patient.(easy for me to say) ha. But try to be patient and watch things improve! Love you. Hugs!!!

@peachthinker I have to agree with so many others here. You are not weak or a wimp. You're healing in many different ways in many different areas. Your body is going to be tired. But you know .. you got a new job. You're getting things done. Maybe it's not as fast as you'd like but you're still doing it. You still are a warrior Peach. Be patient with yourself. Give yourself and your body time to adjust to being pain free. Build yourself up slowly. You'll get there. I have no doubt about that ❤️
@mytwistedsoul
” Warrior Peach “ 💪 If I complain about work when I return, you have my permission to …well idk… but we’ll have to come up with something good lol
thank you 💕💕💕
@peachThinker662 I'll borrow a page from Tiny's book and throw a cactus 😂
@mytwistedsoul
yowzahs!!!!
But ok-😂 deal!!!
@peachThinker662 I'll try not to throw it too hard 😜 but tbh I've never thrown a cactus before 😅
@mytwistedsoul
you might want to wear gloves
tbh I’ve never had one thrown at me 😂😂😂
@peachThinker662 Hey it'll be a new experience for both of us! 😂😂
@peachThinker662
I empathise entirely with the sort of emotions and thoughts you may be encountering. Spinal surgery is an exercise in anxiety build-up. Not only is there the concerns over the procedure itself and the potential outcomes, but all the other effects it has both pre and post surgery regarding every aspect of ones life. The change in activity afterwards and the healing process can be tedious, uncomfortable, and at times upsetting. It is natural that we look to who we were and what we could do before it became necessary to have the operation. When the effects spill into our work lives, that has a further knock-on effect on our self esteem and may even mean looking to the future becomes a more worrying prospect.
But then there are aaaaaaaaallllllll the positives.... a successful surgery! Huzzah! Alleviation of symptoms from before the surgery. Double Huzzah! Steady progress that can act as a motivator and reason to feel confident and proud. Yippeeee!!! Hopefully a positive improvement in quality of life from where you were pre-surgery compared to where you are now. Booyah!!
I know it can be frustrating and sometimes disheartening, but each day you are inching towards a little bit better. Healing takes time. I still am not immune to the fits of pique when my own recovery rate doesn't match my expectations. There are days when it is tempting to throw my toys out of the pram and have a good sulk. But I remind myself the following (which I hope might also comfort you too), that the spine is doing an amazing job with what it has been put through, so it deserves a helping hand by letting it rest where appropriate and doing the physio it needs.
So, from one visitor of the meat-mechanics to another, I wish that your recovery path is swift, and that you get back to doing all the things you want to as soon as possible.
@BastionKnight
You checked every box with this post. I cried tears of relief “I feel heard” when I read this. I think I threw my toys out of the pram about 2 hours ago and had a good sulk.
Ask the good things you mentioned/—🙌 yes—so correct.
Getting a gallbladder removed is so much easier and I kept comparing this to that.
And correction meat mechanic 🥩 🧑🔧 😂
My spine is doing an amazing job from my head to my toes -literally ❤️❤️
thank you for your support and your amazing writing skills
@peachThinker662
*Smiles* It means a lot to me that anything I wrote helped you feel heard. Sometimes tears are a good thing, and I hope that the relief was enduring. As to throwing toys out of the pram, it happens to us all...(and a thoroughly justified sulk is an awfully tempting, thing...so get the most out of it guilt free). May I ask what prompted it though? (if you would rather not say, that is perfectly fine. I am sure it was what you needed at the time)
You had gallbladder surgery? You poor thing. I presume that was some time ago? As to comparing it to your more recent procedure and recovery, that is understandable. I am sorry that you are finding this recovery more uncomfortable. But I bet you are handling it all like a boss! I have confidence in you. *Waves the 'Go Team PeachThinker' flag in support*
It's completely fine to not be feeling like a champion every day, or to even see yourself in that light....but that doesn't stop you still being one. After all, even heroes have their cheerleaders to spur them on when things are tough; Jason had the Argonauts, Batman has Alfred, Achilles had the Myrmidons, Frodo had the Fellowship, Robinhood had his Merry Men, Boudicca had the Iceni...see, even legends need someone in their corner now and again to remind them they are awesome. So, hip-hip-hoorah for PeachThinker!
@BastionKnight
It was helpful. ❤️
The tears were prompted by a Terrible therapy sesh. Adding to the feeling of overwhelm. I’m so concerned this anxiety will not go away. It often feels like that when it’s been hanging out for a while and I try to remind myself of that.
I did have gal bladder surgery. It was a bit ago now. Laparoscopic. In-out. Home. Back to my regularly scheduled job in 6 weeks. I have taken in to account the incision involves the integumentary system. While the Muscles, nerves. And skeletal structures are all playing a part in healing. Lots of energy being used. Lots of reconstruction. It’s challenging not to say “are we done yet” but my body needs to do what it has to. And I need to be kind to it. 💕
Aww. I never knew that about superheroes ❤️❤️ if they can have a cheerleader—yes. So can I . Much love to you!!!!
I am feeling the same, I lost my health and Jon after an abusive marriage. Though I got the divorce. It took me time to even get better. I separated two years, divorce was finalized recently. I took away my health, money, job, my sanity.. I isolated myself socially. I wanted to avoid questions and speculations. And now when I have no earnings or friends. I wonder what happened..
I needed the kind words. You are all so correct. I DO feel 110% better than before the surgery. My quality of life is better. I can cook, I can drive, I can walk. I can do many things on the list. I can keep moving forward too. some days it just gotta harder than others… I appreciate you hearing me out and offering such kind words ❤️
@peachThinker662
We always have your back 💜💕
@peachThinker662
As said, we are always here with you, peaches ❤️ 🤗 🤗🤗💖
@peachThinker662
Life goes on. For me my experience with anxiety is like an on/ off switch. Some days are okay. Some days are not. But as much as it is hard to really face each day with all the problems. I stand up still fighting for life. Fighting for my right to live. Fighting against obstacles and hurdles that I faced in life. Trying to find beauty and happiness though sometimes it's really hard.
I look at my past self too. I wonder a lot what am I doing with my life. I ask myself questions if I will be successful, will I find solutions to my worries. Did I do something wrong back then so I ended up in this situation. So many questions each day.
But I just keep holding on and try not to think about tomorrow. Just live for the present day. Get through everything.
I’m lying in bed bawling my eyes out. I went to sleep really late. Despite being so tired. I’m letting things consume me. Like a very close friend sending me an obnoxious text message last night, wanting to see the Dr tomorrow, and how I felt yesterday.
Today is a new day right?
😢 I had an awful migraine Monday…and it’s just been icky mood since. My stomach is in knots. Muscle tension? Because some of my labs are off?
I’m lucky it’s fixable things and my body just needs fuel. Grateful for that. And that I was proactive in getting them done. Advocated for myself.
I just don’t know how to fix things with my friend. She’s been in my life for so long but there’s so many things I’ve this last year that has been very off putting.
It’s ok to start my day later? It doesn’t have to be at 8am?
I guess I can’t tell if my body is telling me to rest or to move??
@peachThinker662
Ah sorry you are feeling so bad, migraines suck 🥺💜
@peachThinker662
Hey, want to talk for a minute?
Sure ❤️
@peachThinker662
Sorry, I had a phone call come in. you still there?
Yes
@peachThinker662
are you suffering from a residual migraine today?
No. Just some muscle tightness. Maybe it is residual? Idk. I don’t get them often but I know that all those muscles in the trapezius area are connected to the neck, which connects to the jaw and up we go.
@peachThinker662
That's good... no migrane.
@peachThinker662
I would definetly say rest for a bit .... a good gluttounus rest. with a possibility of doing something later. But definetly, no commitment.
Ok. I will follow that advice. @isayuncle
I over think the rest and fear that I will never get out of my bed.
@peachThinker662
i'I'm really sorry to hear about your friend. I picked up a stray cat that was black and white. Before I had crossed my mind and nothing is black and white in this world. Everything is a little bit Gray.
I named the cat tolerance. The nickname being tolly... A cute name for a cat. My ex now owns my cat Tolly. She thought she was too adorable to be left outside for a mouse catcher.
Nowadays, tolerance keeps a lot of fences mended.
@peachThinker662
verthinking grossly wears us out, but it is hard not to do that sometimes.
It does. Burns a lot of fuel when you run a marathon physically or mentally.
@peachThinker662
i hsd two yesrs of shoulder reovery and i was scared to death i was was not going to be able to continue my tradesman work. (my identity).... but alas... bit by bit, it's working out.
Just talking with you this short little bit makes me feel confident that you'll come out on top of this.
Our jobs do become a piece of our identity. It fulfills a purpose of doing and accomplishing things.
I recently had an encounter where I was at the vet making an appointment and said well I’m out of work so let’s do it anyway. She responded I would love that. And I thought to myself but do you really?
Thank you for the confidence in me. ❤️ I can’t wait to be able able to post all of my accomplishments on here
@peachThinker662
And i will look forward to reading about them on a regular basis. 💗
@peachThinker662
Hey, I hope our chat helped a little bit. I'm going to take a tv nap too i think. I hope you get some rest and don't overthink... take it easy thinking'
and no more... waking up bawiling 😁... unless you just have to... that's ok, but not recommended. 😏
@peachThinker662
Don't forget.... Friend have earned the right or think they have somestimes... to be jerks.
Let her know you don't need a jerk friend right now... you need a huggable friend right now.
This may take some time.
Do you ever keep people in your life because they’ve just always been there?
But it hurts to have them there. Tugs on your heart strings one way or the other.
I’ve tried to tell her… it’s a mess. Her phone battery will go, she has a phone call, her kids talk when we are trying or her significant other.
It really instills she has no time for me.
She said something truly disrespectful about a month go. I’m holding on to resentment. She apologized but she went too far….
@peachThinker662
i'I've never been fortunate enough to have the close friend our soul mate friend. In all my life. My upbringing was rough and my insecurities were great and I guess because of my insecurities, I was always looking for approval which I think negates connection, if that makes any sense.
I always looked up to my eldest sister. She had an inviting personality in an outgoing commitment. And when you talked with her she talked about this friend or that friend and often her friends were lifetime friends from high school. I never had that.
What you telling me now about your friend reminds me of something my sister told me about one of her friends just a couple months ago, and it broke my heart.
She said that she couldn't be friends with one of her lifetime friends because of political point of view.
I had an issue with my niece who I thought I was very close with and she broke my heart and we have not spoken since, so I guess that's kinda close to what you're talking about.
It's sad, but I guess sometimes it's hard to find common grounds after the pain has already wounded you deeply.
This just gave me goosebumps.
I’m the eldest sister. And the conversations you describe with your sister, are conversations my younger sister and I would have. I always had the friends over, always had the sleep overs. Sometimes she would be welcome to join and other times we would prank her.
Sadly, she has passed on.
But this statement was a gentle reminder that her tough attitude is in me as well. She’s somewhere also rooting for me and I love that. So much.
I appreciate you taking the time out for an uncle talk. I feel a bit lighter. My stomach went from knots—>hunger. Maybe I’m go eat something and come back to read a book. ❤️
@peachThinker662
💖💑 💖 .... sisterly love, sorry for your loss and her absense. A good book read sounds perfect. Enjoy!

@peachThinker662 What you’ve shared really speaks to the incredible strength you’ve already shown. Spinal surgery, months of recovery, and the ups and downs of trying to step back into work is not easy, and it makes so much sense that you’d feel anxious, exhausted, and even question yourself at times. But please know that feeling this way does not mean you’re failing. It means you’re human, healing, and navigating something life-changing.
That photo of you after the 5k obstacle course, that glowing smile and mud-streaked warrior, that wasn’t a one-time version of you. That spirit is still inside you. Right now it might feel buried under exhaustion and uncertainty, but it hasn’t disappeared. If you could push through grief, disappointment, and tough times then, you can rise again now.
Every small step forward you take, even on the days it feels like two steps back, is still progress. You’re rebuilding not just your strength but also a new chapter of your life. The job you’re working toward, the hope you’re holding onto, and the courage it took to share this all point to the fact that you haven’t given up.
Hold onto the truth that things can and will improve. The anxiety can lessen, your energy can return, and your spirit can feel free again. You’ve already proven you’re a warrior. That same resilience will carry you through this too.
