The situation of not being able to express how you feel program day 4

📅 Day 4: Breaking the Perfectionism Trap (The "Rough Draft")

A major reason we stay silent is a hidden culprit: perfectionism.

Many of us believe that if we cannot voice our feelings perfectly, logically, and calmly, we shouldn't say anything at all. We worry that we will sound stupid, that we will cry, or that the other person will twist our words. So, we stay silent until we eventually explode or completely shut down.

Today, we are giving you permission to be messy.

You do not owe anyone a perfectly edited speech about your mental health. You are allowed to speak in rough drafts. It is entirely valid to look at someone and say: "I am feeling something really big right now, but I don't have the right words for it yet. I just need you to know I'm struggling."

🔍 Deep Dive Explanation

When you demand perfection from your emotional expression, you put your brain into a state of performance anxiety. This triggers the "fight or flight" response, which literally shuts down the logical, language-producing parts of your brain! By lowering the stakes and allowing yourself to speak messily, you actually unlock your ability to talk.

❓ Reflection Questions for the Comments

• Do you find yourself staying quiet because you are afraid of saying things "wrong" or crying while you speak?

• Practice writing a "rough draft" sentence in the comments. How would you tell someone you are overwhelmed without needing to explain why?

First reflection question: Neither. Worried about being judged or misunderstood or it dissolving into an argument with someone particular in my life.

Second reflection question: My life feels heavy right now.

Thank you! And honestly, this makes a lot of sense. I write poems often to myself, and sometimes I feel like that’s the best way to express myself.

Also, may I join your taglist?

“I don’t know how I’m feeling, but I wrote a poem about it. Do you want to hear it?”
