I've been thinking for a long time about making this post, and it's finally here! <3
Around the world, periods are thought of as bad, dirty, taboo, or unmentionable, even though theyre healthy and normal. Even here in America, girls try to hide their pads or tampons, and don't talk about menstruation, due to shame.
So, here's a safe, anonymous place for the guys to ask the girls questions about periods!
I know. You may live somewhere where talking about menstruation is taboo. HOWEVER... No one here knows who you are, or where you live (unless you choose to share). No one will judge you for asking questions, or never having been taught the answers, etc. If you feel really nervous, but still want to learn, just quietly lurk and read, without posting. I’m a female!
I have a period!
It can make you feel a little gross or dirty.
I get cramps sometimes, which are when your abdomen hurts because of your period. You can also have pain other places, like your legs or back.
Personally I haven’t noticed a big shift with my emotions, but some girls do.
I choose to wear pads, but there are also tampons, and some people wear both!
I try not to talk about my period with males because I think they won’t like that, but I will tell someone I am having cramps if they are affecting my day.
Some fun fact is about showering. You might wonder how the blood doesn’t just come out onto the floor before you get your clothes on. I guess that could happen, but it has never happened to me.
I am very willing to write about this and answer any and all questions. Just tag me if you want me to see it!

Periods are fun after showering... Racing to rinse yourself, dry off fast, and put on a pad before leakage occurs! lol. Yes, leakage has happened to me lol. Luckily, if you get to it fast, it doesn't stain <3
One common misconception is that period blood is... blood. Actually, only part of it is blood!
Here's what one website says...
Period blood is healthy. It comprises three natural components:
Blood: This is the same red fluid pumping through your veins, heart, and lungs. It contains water, red blood cells, and platelets.
Endometrial Tissue: This is the lining of the uterus. Every month, your body builds a soft, nutrient-rich "bed" in case a fertilised egg needs to implant and grow. If you don't get pregnant, your body simply sheds this unneeded tissue.
Cervical Mucus & Vaginal Secretions: As the fluid travels down through the cervix and ***, it picks up natural mucus, which helps lubricate the flow.

I'm a sixteen year old girl (turning 17 in two days lol) and it's been over four years of periods for me. I'm gonna have my 5 year period anniversary 25th November 2026 (yes ofc I remember when I got my first period, and I'm gonna share the story!)
My first period story (NOT happy)

So I was 12 years old. I had gone to a party with my family. Night of 24th November. We returned after midnight. I saw a spot in my underwear while changing. I ignored it, thinking maybe it was LeAkInG cOlOuR cuz it was a new underwear (kids have weird thoughts 😂😭)! Anyway next morning I woke up and my pants. Were. Soaked. In blood. Why was my first thought "my kidneys failed and now they're leaking blood!" 😭? So it was the time of lockdown, I sat down for my online classes. Okay, ngl I was aware of what periods are, I had recently found out (my mother never told me). So on some level I was aware why I was bleeding. I sat through online classes for I think 4 hours!? And then I even played with my sister (she was 4 I think)?! All while my pants were soaked with blood. Then I went to the washroom and when I came out my mother. Saw. My. Pants. And I was so scared, like I had done something wrong and I was so sure I had done something wrong. My mother started shouting at me like "what is this, you got your period, you're just twelve, your cousin is two years older she just got hers!" Yes, her exact words translated into english. Then she said "go upstairs." Cuz the cook was in the kitchen and I think we had a male cook s she didn't want him to see. I went upstairs and she. Made. Me. Wash. My. Pants. Then she taught me how to use a pad. All while being angry at me. It was so hard to get the bloodstains out, twelve year old me struggling in the bathroom with *** pants 😩. And you know what she told my then four year old sister about the pads? She said I have to use DiApErS cuz I'm shi tting my pants (yes she also told her the blood was shi-) 😳. And till date, my sister, now nine, teases me about shi tting my pants when I was twelve. I want to tell her about periods cuz I feel she's old enough to know but my mother doesn't let me tell her! I don't want my sister to end up in the same situation as me, I'll try to make sure I'm with her for her first period.
So guys that's my story please no hate it's all in the past 😇
That stinks when parents dont tell kids about basic bodily functions. Of course the child will panic and have no idea what to do! Im so sorry :(

Do every girl experience pain during the period? And how do you precisely calculate when the next period will come?

No, not every girl experiences pain. Mine were always comfortable, just the blood flow, otherwise i never found periods as anyway inconvenient. But I do know some girls who go through a lot of pain and mood swings during the time of periods. Also, not everybody's periods are regular. Some of them have them more prompt and timely, while others dont have it that timely. Mine were irregular but approximately 30 days is when they recur. Earlier they used to come once in three months. My ex my sister my mom all use to go through painful periods and I assumed it must he painful for all. I remember going to doc with my ex and they prescribed vitamins and stuff for it so maybe it's the deficiency that causes it. Also the cycle being irregular is new to me because she would be very accurate about hers

So, it can be irregular especially when it starts, and the cramps can be different for everyone. For example, I get slight cramps and pretty bad nausea, and I don't really want to eat 🥲 But it depends on who you are. Drinking a lot of water helps, eating chocolate and not much spicy things also helps.

Mine used to come every 2 months, now more like 6 weeks, but I've been kinda scared that my schedule is so irregular. Is it normal? I'm pretty young, so I don't really know.

Periods can be weird and random sometimes. Check with your doctor, but it's probably normal. Periods be like that. lol

Luckily, mine generally start within approximately a month of each other, so I can generally gauge it. I keep pads in my purse at all times, though, just in case! This also helpes greatly when a friend or coworker gets caught unawares by their period starting, and they didn't bring pads. Girls will discreetly ask each other for pads when they don't have any. We all have each other's backs, and will readily share what we have! Girls look out for each other <3
@jesusredeemedme2425 It's important for everyone to discuss it. My partner has endometriosis and the pain of their cramps can be crippling. So many people whose periods aren't so painful have tried to dismiss it as a low pain threshold (it certainly isn't) or attention seeking.
Not everyone's period will present in the same way. Talking about them more in society will help other realise there might be something that could be done to ease their pain.
I've always got a couple of packs of spare pads in the car - sometimes you can't predict when you'll be on, some people have much heavier periods and will bleed through a pad. You'll be surprised the number of people who have never heard about menstrual cups before either (daunting, no doubt, but a game changer for heavy periods).
I strongly believe everyone should talk about it. It isn't a one size fits all discussion, the secrecy around it can lead to someone thinking they're doing something wrong when in fact their body is putting them through so much more than what other people mean when they say "period".

Thank you for saying this, and I'm sorry your partner's period causes them so much pain. I think we should talk about it more, but the reason I don't is that some people can be really mean about it, and when I am already cramping, feeling nauseous, and worried I am going to bleed through my clothes, I'd rather people not yell at me. The more people talk about it, the more normalized it will be, and hopefully some countries will let people going through this have more access to products.

One misconception is that pads are used by attaching them to the v*ginal area.
For those who have never actually seen a pad, here's a pic of what some of them look like:
Pads come wrapped, generally folded into 3 parts, inside a plastic wrapping, like this:
The other side of a pad (not shown), has a sticky layer that attaches directly to the underwear, not to our private areas. They're sticky enough to stay stuck for hours, but also easily removable.
The layer furthest "inside" is thicker and absorbent. The outer layer is thinner and gentler when rubbing against skin.
The little flappy things on the sides are called wings, and not all pads have them. They help the pad stay put and not move around as you move and live your life. But they can also be scratchy, which is why some people prefer pads without wings. Wings also have adhesive, and they wrap around the bottom side of the underwear to hold the pad in place.
Can someone please share about tampons, menstrual cups, and other things? I'm a Tylenol and pad girl myself lol! Thanks!
