I asked the wind to dance for you

In honour of your boundless grace,

I asked the sun if it would shine

Bright as the smile upon your face.

I asked the waves and rolling surf

If just for you they'd sing and play

And with the shifting sea-kissed sand

Take everything that's sad away.

I asked the night to keep you safe,

As it was reaching overhead.

I asked the moon if it would mind

To be the night-light by your bed.

I told the sky of your rare heart,

Of every kindness you bestow.

For every one that you had done,

I asked the stars to share their glow;

To gift a shard of light from each

And form into a diadem.

They said they'd try but could not say

If there would be enough of them.

I whispered to the Milky Way

With all its untapped energy

To hum a gentle lullaby

And soothe you with its melody

I wish I had the power to change

All that had ever brought you tears

And dream a world that you deserve

That never fades nor disappears.

So whilst we work and plan ahead

I'll ask the elements for aid

To guard and cherish, warm with love,

Until that perfect world is made.
