This flower was by a busy main road; a verge speckled with litter, the pavement coated in a film of dust and stained by fumes. This little blossom rocked back and forth in the backdraft of passing lorries. No one paid it any particular heed, yet despite where it was and all that went on around it, it shone brilliantly in the hazy sunshine. Its colours undimmed and unsullied, fragile yet tenacious. Watching it as it shook in the wind and traffic gusts, it seemed to dance against the sky.

I took this photo a while ago now, but I still recall how seeing it made me feel. And I remember that it was this small overlooked flower that made such a big difference to my day.

Sometimes we are lucky to grow in lush, verdant forest. Sometimes we are tended in neat gardens. Sometimes we grow against all odds in the unlikeliest of places. Occasionally, someone crosses our path and we leave them changed just by being who we are. So maybe bear it in mind, and keep growing proudly. You make a difference.
