The username is taken from the title of a 19th century Alexandre Dumas novel, Le demi-monde, about bohemians on the fringes of society. I actually wanted something that evoked the liminal and the crepuscular - that familiar yet strange feeling you mentioned nails it!
And thank you for welcoming me to the party! I was worried I had gatecrashed as I've never been the reserved type, so I very much appreciate someone saying 'it's ok, come right in'.
