Things Atheists Wish You Knew
If this is part of your life story, please share your insights! What would you like the rest of us to learn? What should we know about people in this community? How would you like people to interact with you? Should people ask questions? What’s the best way for people to learn about this? Do you have any resources (books, movies, YT videos, etc) that will give us greater understanding and empathy and kindness toward people who experience the same things you do?
If you’re not on this journey, we welcome you to listen, learn, and ask respectful, good-faith questions! Open-ended questions are highly encouraged, as they give people the space to share their unique experiences in their own words. While this is a safe space to learn about things you’ve never experienced, please remember to be sensitive, and avoid sharing harmful stereotypes or debating someone's lived reality. If you have a question, ask it with empathy. If someone gently corrects you, please be open to learning. Let's have a gentle, fun, friendly conversation where we support one another, because it takes all sorts to make a world!

As someone who is most definitely not an atheist, this should be interesting 😂💙
I don't fully identify as an atheist, but religious people tend to look at you differently when you don't follow their beliefs or any other religion.
For me, it was a weight off. I felt like I was making excuses for beliefs that weren't jiving with me anymore. On the other hand, it can feel lonelier and it takes away a potential sense of security.
I guess what I'd want people to know is that I actually often value religious takes, and I support your faith when it helps you thrive. Mutual respect is key, and I often come to find that people's beliefs might not be that different at heart than mine.
@Torean
This is extremely well said. I’m agnostic-but-spiritual (so also not fully atheist), but I can relate to most of this.
@Torean Thank you for sharing ❤️🥰

Atheists often stay quiet to avoid conflict
Don't try to convert me, I have no interest in religion. No matter what religion it is.
People who try to preach to me just irritate me. I don't push my beliefs so please don't push yours.
Most atheists ground morality in empathy, harm reduction, fairness, and social well‑being, not divine command.
Sometimes feel frustrated when people assume I “must not have morals.”
Atheists aren’t angry at God, I can’t be angry at something I don’t believe exists.
As an Atheist, I want the same things everyone else does
Love, community, purpose, safety, meaning, joy.
I just arrive at those things without religious belief.
@QuietByNature Thank you for sharing! 💖🥰
@fossilfellow
You are quite welcome 😊🤗
Can we still be friends in spite of our beliefs or none belief? I promise I won't try to convert you. 😊🤗😬
@QuietByNature
Ha, no converting going on here 😂😂😂💙
