Things Moms Wish You Knew

If this is part of your life story, please share your insights! What would you like the rest of us to learn? What should we know about people in this community? How would you like people to interact with you? Should people ask questions? What’s the best way for people to learn about this? Do you have any resources (books, movies, YT videos, etc) that will give us greater understanding and empathy and kindness toward people who experience the same things you do?

If you’re not on this journey, we welcome you to listen, learn, and ask respectful, good-faith questions! Open-ended questions are highly encouraged, as they give people the space to share their unique experiences in their own words. While this is a safe space to learn about things you’ve never experienced, please remember to be sensitive, and avoid sharing harmful stereotypes or debating someone's lived reality. If you have a question, ask it with empathy. If someone gently corrects you, please be open to learning. Let's have a gentle, fun, friendly conversation where we support one another, because it takes all sorts to make a world!

Bahahaha, I was idle and removed FB. My scrolling time is now being used for good! Hehe

Also I had a time recently where I was really struggling, and I haven’t quite recovered yet. I just kinda plateaued a bit…

You know how it's rude to ask a woman WHEN she's going to have children? Don't ask when a Mom is going to have another child. You don't even know how much I've been asked this question. I wasn't even supposed to be able to have my son, and was told I would not be able to have more children. This is only ONE of the reasons why you don't ask this. Along the same lines, don't ask us why we DIDN'T have more children. That is incredibly personal and not something every Mom wants to talk about.

We need time to decompress and make a little time for ourselves. If you have a friend that's a Mom and she seems to be overwhelmed or exhausted, your offer to help out is the greatest gift you could ever give. Especially with newborns and little ones. You can help with cooking, cleaning, help with laundry or errands Even help watching the baby while Mom takes a nap or even a shower means the world. ,♥️

Honestly, why do people care? And why do people ask such deeply personal questions? People need to keep themselves to themselves sometimes…

Every mother’s journey is different, but all of us have been lied to by medical professionals. They never tell women about the full potential impacts growing a human being will produce. You don’t just birth a child you birth a new version of yourself.

My child made it easier for me to be myself and set boundaries. But my health severely declined while pregnant and even after giving birth. I’m still struggling to get back to healthy. I get colds and flus more frequently now and more severely than I ever have in my life. My eye sight is the worst it’s ever been not to mention feeling completely disconnect from my body even several years post partum.

There's a lot to say about motherhood, but I will just say: it is the wildest roller coaster ever. It's one of the toughest jobs, but it is the most fulfilling job I've ever had. There are some days that seem impossible, but somehow I get through them, and then I get to enjoy my son's silliness and kindness and hear him say new words.
