Things Weightlifters Wish You Knew

If this is part of your life story, please share your insights! What would you like the rest of us to learn? What should we know about people in this community? How would you like people to interact with you? Should people ask questions? What’s the best way for people to learn about this? Do you have any resources (books, movies, YT videos, etc) that will give us greater understanding and empathy and kindness toward people who experience the same things you do?

If you’re not on this journey, we welcome you to listen, learn, and ask respectful, good-faith questions! Open-ended questions are highly encouraged, as they give people the space to share their unique experiences in their own words. While this is a safe space to learn about things you’ve never experienced, please remember to be sensitive, and avoid sharing harmful stereotypes or debating someone's lived reality. If you have a question, ask it with empathy. If someone gently corrects you, please be open to learning. Let's have a gentle, fun, friendly conversation where we support one another, because it takes all sorts to make a world!

@jesusredeemedme2425 Weight lifting is really good for you. I've been doing it forever and as a result I'm in really good physical shape. As I've gotten older I kept all my hair, and I feel 10 years younger than my real age. Even people my age seem a bit like 'weaker' as in unable to lift much, to do as much, and I recover from injuries quicker. I started doing it because I quit Skateboarding a while ago, even though I loved it, because I was getting older. It did me a lot of good, and for women it stops osteoporosis in later years if you even just lift a very little occasionally.

@AiluraTheCat Yeah even if you're just lifting 10 lbs 10 times a day, that keeps you much younger as you go on.

I know it's good and all but, it isn't a high-risk thing to do even if you know how to do it? like, a cramp in a bad moment or even a slight mistake in your handle could cause a severe lesion, how do you deal with it physically/mentally?

@SaviSSS I have a few techniques, one thing is I lift extremely slowly. Like I'm in slow motion, going fast tears or injures muscles, if you go very slow they don't tear, but you have to make sure you have the amount of weights that's right for you.

Weightlifting will be life changing in many ways, along the way you might experience injuries its very important you treat them as life lessons and not as a sign to stop, with our lifestyles nowadays one of the only things that can help your life overall is weightlifting, you dont need to have a perfect plan or anything you just need the right techniques, besides the physical advantages your mental health will become stronger with time as well! I recommend it to everyone even if you have physical challenges

@jesusredeemedme2425 I sometimes have to carry a 2.5 kg bag of potatoes from the shop instead of the usual 2 😭. Lifting life isn't as easy when you are level 0

Probably stretch, and try not to overdo it. My shoulder tends to let me know that it's not happy with me. I try my best to not let that happen
