Grief & Loss Question of the week 12.4.23

I have been thinking about what I can add to the community.  I thought it might be cool to have a discussion topic each week.  So every Monday I am going to post a question of the week.  Feel free to answer as thoroughly or as simply as you would like.

This week’s question:

Lately I’ve been noticing my grief showing up in what ways?

For me, my grief has been showing up in the form of a headache and high blood pressure.  This is usually how intense feelings show up for me- my physical well-being.

I didn’t mean to set this as a check in or featured thread.  Oops.

@Kristynsmama I just wanted to say that I am so sorry your grieving is physically affecting you. How are you now? I hope you are feeling better and that you are getting your blood pressure under control. ♡ Also, too, I think what you are intending to do for our community here is a great idea. Thanks for making this such a safe place for others to share.

@YourCaringConfidant

thabks for checking on me.  Everything affects me physically these days.  I just seem to be fragile that way.  Today was an ok day though.  I dedicated most of the day to self care which was much needed!

@Kristynsmama Awww, in that case I am so proud of you for recognizing the importance of self care. Physically, you may be "fragile", but emotionally/mentally you can overcome anything. You are such a special and important person, so I love to see that you are prioritizing yourself. I am happy for you. ☆

@Kristynsmama I am so sorry for your high pressure issues, it must be so hard for you. Yes, grief can affect people physically too.

For me it was long cries, like weeks, months long and I couldn't stop. Sometimes I cried so much I got sick and threw up the whole night. Sleepless nights, depressions... It was a difficult year.

Right now I'm plus/minus okay, somehow I learned to live with it. It's still there, it's hard. The grief storms come from time to time and sweep me like a little rock on the beach, then I cry a lot. But most of the time I can manage and function normally, do work, take care of the kids, live a normal life.

Yesterday I watched this video, it was really nice and helpful. Finally someone that doesn't expect you to get over it, because it's impossible. Watch it too if you feel like it :)

@Kristynsmama

I've been getting dizzy spells, stomach cramps and bad headaches.

Both happen when I think about my loss and trauma. Even if I don't feel bad emotionally.

@Kristynsmama My grief is still pretty fresh and I feel like it's constantly in the back of my mind. When it comes to the forefront I often resort to alcohol, which often leads to terrible IBS flare ups like I'm going through now. I think about my mom every day, cry most days, and am really struggling. I'm hoping after the holidays have passed it might be easier to get by.

Lately I’ve been noticing my grief showing up in my dreams and in what I say and do.

I dream of them or say something they used to often say in the past when we were going through a rough patches in our relationship, or do things they might do like drink alcohol or eat even if I don't want to, just because I'm bored.
