Wellness Accountability Huddles: Week 1 Friday Checkin Questions (February 20)

User Profile: Heather225
Heather225 February 20th

Here are the questions we asked for our Friday progress checkin for those who missed it:

  • On a scale of 1–10, how do you feel you did this week?

  • How are you tracking your goals? e.g. notepad, tracking/habit app, google doc

  • Have you SMARTened your goals yet? Here is the template to copy.

➡ Remember to check in with the group every day to share a progress update. Remember, we're not aiming for perfection! Setbacks are expected, and this is not a race! And be sure to interact with each other, as we are much more likely to be accountable as a group! Let's support each other!

I have also put together a guide for the 5 weeks in an external document to carry with you as you work on your goals (HERE).

@Heather225 I'm at a 6. My comfy area is clean but desk is all cluttered currently. Regarding laundry, I'm at an 8.5. It's Friday night and all my laundry is washed (except yesterday's clothes) and dried. I even folded it all up and it's in the laundry basket still. Had I actually took them out the basket and put them away yesterday or today, I would have rated higher. But, hey, for me-- an 8.5 is definitely a win! 👏

Hey hey! Thank you for posting this, I was going to respond a while ago but I got caught up with life and handling responsibilities. I do want to say that this is really helpful for my wellness because I need to talk about my feelings more in the middle of the day, most of my days I’m just going and going like an energizer bunny and then I ko when I’m deadbeat tired.

I have been using the Habit App with tracking my wellness goals, I have self care activities on there that help me with finding balance somehow, someway. I love the app because it allows me to know when I’m doing better than other times and I do notice a change in myself when I’m sticking to my self care routine.

I do want to belong more to this community because talking about my feelings is really important, especially when I can acknowledge them throughout the day instead of bottling up emotions.

I’m grateful to be here!!

@Heather225
I'm starting to really put at a test my addiction to future tripping by limiting my time on media and certain triggering music, trying ot substitute it with healthy habits like mindfulness practices such as tea and eating mindfully in the home... but I found that I need to think of something also to ground myself when circumstances start triggering past trauma.

specific: for me my goal to limit distraction are trying to deal with triggers (mostly media/films/certain music) that get me to escape into future tripping and triggers (certain pattern that represent or toxic behaviours/words/phrases that my parents repeat) that get me to shut-down bc they remind me of past trauma.

Generally not let myself SHUT-DOWN... the distraction is a way not to face the fact I'm depressed and shutting down because I'm basically given up before even starting... not let my thesis/work basically my long-term goal slow advancement, immediately destroy me, effect me bc I need to fix other aspects before but also think of myself as a whole and because important things take time and I'm different to others I can't do waht others do.

measure: I use my calendar sticker system as an overview of the week but for the daily thing I think I need to have a moment at the end of the day and actually ask myself how much did I get distracted and what triggered me, so like a list of questions to check in at the end of the day...I need to add more stickers representing other aspects of life, like social, spiritual, burocracy bc even if I don't get to do my thesis I still get to do important stuff. I still achieve something. Me not doing the thesis isn't just me shutting down, it's also life that comes in the way.

check-list questions:

- did I manage to get what I had to do today? if no, is it because I shut-down, got distracted (in my control) or bc there were other things' I had to deal with (actually not in my control).
- what triggered me? was it future tripping (media, it's a sweeter feeling of that instantenous goal-achievement.. I'm already graduate, I'm already settled...the instantenous feeling of feeling something, like a drug) or past related triggers (my family, friends words and actions, an event... this is more of a anxiety feeling, of a panick attack, of depression)

- if it's future tripping, can I substitute that trigger with an healthy "feel good" habit that are slower pace (5-6 weeks habit).
- if it's past related, can I find a practice to ground myself, to get out of that panic state.

-If I already do have an alternative habit for these things, is it working?

Acheivement: strategies I can apply

1. getting away from the distractions at least for that moment of the day I need to concetrate and refresh. Such strategies that have worked is locking door at certain hours, using apps to block/limit media, trying to use alternative objects to the computer/cellphone "rabbit hole" like vinal/cd player

2. finding healthy alternative to the distractions and narrowing it down to one things... don't get lost in the confusion of trying to many things and wasting so much time in finding each time an alternative. Choose that strategy and make it an habit, give it time to sink in... I've liked to use the Plum Village/VOS for mindfulness, just stick to those.

3. rewire brain (this is more for past trauma) chose a habit to ground yourself and stick to it for 5-6 weeks, give it time to sink in. Stick to the Practice section of Plum Village and ready-set practices of VOS app for that particular need (re-focus, panic,...) just stick to it.

4. try to reming myself to do so, be constant... as soon as I feel unfocus or panic, I must make it a habit to automatically apply a strategy... don't let it build-up thinking it will just pass on it's own or that it isn't that bad, it only take 5 minutes to meditate, reground yourself as soon as you feel the signs.

Relevant... yep, it's about being present and active in my long-term goal of graduating/working. Getting my brain to slow-down, get away from this ***-mindset which actually makes me way slower like the turtle and the hare.

Time-bound: I need to expend this to 5-6 weeks...make it a habit, re-wire... I think I'm at a point that this is my main central goal that makes the rest happen, even if I struggle to sleep, or to work, it all comes down to rewiring my brain with mindful slow practices.

@The24hrClimber

this great you seeing what you need to do we also found TV had even unseen triggers and made it hard to not go back to bad coping ways why over 15 years ago we cut TV out all together  we still watch movies online but more mindful of what in them now too

yes asking self questions at end of day can be very good but also give self grace too for us as a system  we find at times it other within saying repeating things said by abusers and or others that we end up going with this can really bring one down

self patenting  has become a big part of our day now too can be for  DID or inter-child

we see you are really thinking this through way to go
