How Many Discussions Can I Lead? *Updated Info for Group Mods*
Hello Mods!
Here is some clarification and updated information on how many discussions you are allowed to host or co-host.
Both Global and Community Centered Moderators are permitted to be involved in 3 Subcommunity teams and run weekly discussions for each of those three teams.
- The exception to this rule is the Safety & Knowledge Support Team. The Safety & Knowledge team is considered a *bonus* team and does not count toward your 3 team rule.
Additionally, Global Moderators are allowed to lead or co-lead 3 extra discussions a month. These extra discussions may include:
- Co-leading with someone who is not a mod outside your support teams
- Filling in for someone who had to cancel a discussion at the last minute
- Leading a discussion on a topic that is not part of a Subcommunity Support Team
- Ex: ADHD
- Participating in a special event or awareness day discussion that is not related to your 3 Subcommunities.
Both Global and Community Centered Moderators:
Assisting with modding a discussion with someone who is not a mod within your team is allowed and does not need to be counted as ‘extra.
- Assisting with or coleading outside of your team should count as ‘extra.
If you are doing extra discussions for an event that is directly related to your Subcommunity, this does not count as ‘extra.
- Moderators are allowed to do extra discussions within their current teams (meaning you are modding the discussion in one of your regular rooms) for an awareness event.
- Ex: For World Bipolar Day, if you are part of the Bipolar Support Team, leading an extra discussion for this awareness day is not counted as ‘extra.
- If you are not on the Bipolar Support Team, but wish to host a discussion for World Bipolar Day, this will count toward your 3 extra discussions for that month.

Just to confirm, if there is an event happening within a sub-community, a global moderator would only be able to help out with 3 discussions over the month period?
Also, with moderators within a sub-commuinity, it says that we are able to host one weekly support session - for ATL does this include one discussion on each of the Teen and Adult side or just one overall?
Additionally, do pop-up discussions count in any of these guidelines? I know that we are able to open a room should we be a global moderator and host small discussions or open chats - if we were doing discussions, would this count or would this just be seperate?

Like if there is an event just for ED and you're on that team, it doesn't count toward your 'extras.'

Great, that sounds good with the events! That makes a lot more sense with the 3 regular sessions, so if we are ATL in 3 sub-communities, we would need to choose which side on each sub-community rather than hosting 6 sessions.
With pop-ups, is this including open chats where CML, STL or Moderators open non 24/7 rooms, and host open chats in an attempt to get the room open as much as possible? I know there have been a few teams i'm a part of, who try and get the room open for support as much as possible, but with the moderator present. I'm wondering if these teams would need to keep in mind the timings and instead of opening whenever for however long they are present for, they would only be allowed for 30 minutes.
An example of this is the SHR team, I know that a couple of the moderators - with permission from STL/CML, open the room when they are around and able to look after the room, so that members can utilise the room as much as possible with a safe enviornment to gain support. Would they still be able to do this, or would they need to make sure they stick to 30 minutes at a time?

@emsworld The pop-up open chats can be flexible with time. As long as we're mindful about not overlapping discussions too much (especially on teen side) and that someone isn't already scheduled to use the room.

I do understand (maybe) on there being a limit. But on the other hand, we cry about not having enough activity in certain rooms/comunities. I have been leading discussions,pop-ups and just Open Chats for many moons now-lol And if on some weeks I have more time and my 2 teams are up to date, I'd like that choice to do whatever discussions I can where they are needed and where my passion is.

@RumpleSteeleSkin Kate can clarify however this is just as i understand it. We have always had a rule on the amount of teams you can be on at one time. If you are on 3 teams and you want to lead and extra session in one of the rooms I believe thats different. The rule is about 3 teams. We are just adding the ability to lead 3 extra sessions outside of your teams here. The rest is the same as it has been. As Kate said above if its a room that is not 24/7 and you open the room and stay in there as a moderator to try get the room open and allow for members to be supported together thats fine. Just make sure we are not overlapping sessions too much and make sure somebody else has not scheduled to use the room. Hope that makes sense <3

Im not on 3 teams and I always am 1 mod of many who are global and step in to make sure someone gets a mod or their discussion is cancealed. I never in almost 4 years ran into an issue of how many I lead. I however do know on the importance of self care here. But as I said before, if we keep getting told how many and when where does one learn on self care for themselves?
I guess I will just keep going as I am unless I hear from Kate. We need discussions here...the community needs it

@RumpleSteeleSkin I understand that completely. I was just pointing out that you are able to do all the discussions you want to on your teams. As long as you dont have more than 3 teams. That is how this has been. The change is that we are allowing global mods to do 3 more sessions outside of the teams they are on a month to cater for special events. Its great that we have people like you that stand in to mod for others that sre not mods while they lead, thank you <3 those will not count as one of your 3 extra sessions as you are modding and not leading.
I agree with @RumpleSteeleSkin. Please don't put a limit on how many discussions/Pop-Ups/Open Sessions that we're allowed to do a week. In the Addiction Community we only have so many people who are able to lead discussions and I am passionate about the discussions that I do lead. I also enjoy being able to open the room for general chatting (pop-up) and feel as though as long as we aren't feeling burnt out and are enjoying what we're doing, that we should be able to continue to do as many discussions and such as we like.
@InternalAcceptance I can totally understand wanting to have the room open as much as possible. As kate said above you can open the room as a mod and allow members to chat and be supported while you are there. Thats a bit different from a normal session that we are talking about here. Not much has changed except you are now able to do 3 extra sessions a month outside of your subcommunity teams. The rest is how it has always been and is just clarification <3

Thanks for this-its helpful. But hmmm. Have most of us mods/global mods done our team requirements plus stepped in monthly or when we can past the 3? Many I do know on here are so generous with their teams,community and time. Hurray for them

Does this limit how many hugs sessions we can host too? Or are we still able to host those more than 3 times a month?

If there's a limit to how many discussions/teams that someone can lead or be a part of, how would someone be able to apply for the doorkeeper badge? Does this mean that only global mods can apply for it since they can be on 3 support teams but still can do 3 extra weekly sessions? Or the 3 extra discussions don't have to be weekly? Because as far as I know, someone has to lead 3+ weekly regular sessions in order to be eligible to apply for the badge.

@Erato The 3 extra discussions don't have to be weekly. The current rule for Doorkeeper is 3+ discussions a week, however, I will have an update to this role very soon that I think will help a lot!

Vivels, I'm not Kate, (lol) but I know from my own recent experience that the person to approach in the first instance is the STM (Support Team Mentor) who leads the team you are interested in joining. Have a chat with them, then usually they can ask for you to be added and onboarded to the team.
