Teens - Depression Support Update
Hey everyone,
It has come to my attention that there is a significant level of ongoing hurtful and unsupportive behaviour in the Depression Support room (teens). This is not what 7 Cups is about. The Depression Support room is supposed to be a safe place for teens to talk about and share what you're going through. If you're using that room, please take extra care to ensure you are being kind and supportive to others. If another person is bothering you, please mute them, rather than engaging in conflict.
We will be taking the following measures to rectify the problems in this room:
- Suspending members who are persistently causing problems
- Locking the room temporarily to be available to members only
- Ensuring there are regular, moderated support sessions
If you would like to share any other concerns about the teen Depression Support room, please PM me directly.
Thank you!
@Heather We're really excited to see this come into place. Thank you for your support so much.
@Heather That's great to hear, hopefully, the room will become more supportive now
Yeah, I've noticed there's a lot of drama going on whenever I go into the chat, and whenever there's an argument it seems hard for people to move on from it. This seems like a smart move
@Heather
Looks like a lot are happy with the decision, and I have to share in the happiness of having this go forward. I hope this will be a step into making the room more supportive, safe, and welcoming again.
@Heather, Thank you for this update. It is much needed.
@Heather I'm glad to see this. I stopped using the support rooms because, every time I did, I would leave feeling worse than before. The depression room can be especially bad. If you go there at the "wrong time," there are certain people who will ignore everyone except one or two people. There will be a wall of text between those people, and anyone who interferes to get support for their depression is told to leave. Anyone who wants to actually talk about depression is ignored or muted, while they continue to have a casual discussion about animals or something random. So, it's a depression room, but yet people treat it like a community room for lighthearted discussions.
It was really disappointing to see that, and I hope these changes can help stop that from happening. It is a DEPRESSION room, for people to talk about DEPRESSION. The conversation is meant to be depressing! Some people don't seem to understand that the name of the group is meant to correlate with what is discussed in that group.
When the depression room becomes a safe zone to discuss our problems, then I will use this website again. Until then, all I do is come on here to see what my notifications say. I really don't use this website anymore. I got tired of getting ignored and feeling like trash every time I needed to talk to someone.
@BrokenShadow
I feel you. It's hard to find good listeners that will actually address your issues without empty condolences, or participate in very dead chat rooms for the most part.
@mkiana211 It is difficult to find good listeners, and sometimes the chats are dead. I think I prefer the dead chats over the always busy, always distracted Depression Room. When I do come on here, people in that room aren't really discussing their problems. I find that they talk more about depression in the anxiety room. The depression room is a rather popular room, and it can get crowded sometimes to the point where the people seeking help get ignored. A group of familiar faces tend to collect in that room and talk about things that would make them happy, and they refused to talk to anyone that needed to vent about their problems. One time, I saw someone say that they did this because they wanted to be distracted from their depression, but that isn't what the room is meant for. It isn't going to help them or anyone in the room get better.
Everyone loses on those days... Those that are there because they feel alone or were hurting themselves? They leave feeling as if not even the people online will listen to them. They go cut some more or they go and cry themselves to sleep. Those that turned the depression room into the community room? I think they leave and see how bad their reality is, and maybe they regret not telling someone about their struggles. I could be wrong about that second one.
That is why I don't go there anymore. If it's been improved, I wouldn't know it. I'm done.
@Heather This is something that was greatly needed, and I'm glad something is being done to help better the Depression Support Room, and the 7 Cups Community as a whole. I'm excited to see this, and can't wait to see more people getting the help they need and deserve. <3
I'm very happy to hear this! While it is unfortunate that it has come to this at all, I do think the step is well adjusted to face the problem and get rid of the toxicity!
@Heather It's so good to see some action being taken on this! I really appreciate this.
Glad to see some light being shed on the issue. I really hope that most of the room's issues are resolved soon because I do agree that it's been pretty much a no man's land in there.
