The Purpose of Each Teen Group Support Chatroom

I think there's been a bit of confusion lately regarding the purposes of each group support chatroom. Recently on the teen side, I've been noticing rooms that are supposed to be engaging, supportive environments, are turning dark. This isn't something that I like to see.

All 7Cups Group Support Chatrooms, whether on the Teen or Adult side, are meant to be supportive, nurturing environments that welcome anyone and their struggles. However, different rooms serve different purposes, and therefore can sometimes cater to different types of users. So, that's what I'm here for. I'd like to go over each of the Member/Guest Chatrooms on the Teen side of 7Cups and dig deeper into what they're really here for.

Community Room

The Community Room, believe it or not, is one of my favorite places on 7Cups. It's a place where members, listeners, and guests alike are able to be themselves in a welcoming atmosphere. This is a place for anyone from any walk of life to be genuinely silly and playful, talking about anything from movies, to games, to television programs, to books, to activities; literally anyone from anywhere can come and talk about anything. It's great! And unfortunately, lately, it hasn't been getting too much activity. So I encourage everyone to please please please come to the Community Room if you're looking to be lighthearted. While the Support Rooms are good for lighthearted chat when nobody's looking to be supported, we should never blow off someone who's looking for support in order for our lighthearted conversations to continue. Likewise, we ask that if you're looking for support, the Community Room may not be the best place for that. As it is a lighthearted environment, and people will be silly and fun, a Support Room may better suit your needs.

Anxiety Support

Somewhere that I deeply enjoy calling home, the Anxiety Support room is for individuals to join others experiencing anxiety and talk about it in a safe space. While anxiety is a really personal thing that varies greatly from person-to-person, individuals may find lots in common with others who are walking in their shoes on a daily basis. That's why this room exists - to foster the connections that some may form because of their anxieties.

This room is also the home to Teen Anxiety Support Sessions, where amazing discussion leaders lead weekly, moderated discussions on various topics relating to anxiety. We invite you to join in on an Anxiety Support session if you can!

Depression Support

Depression Support is for individuals to come and share their struggles with their peers. This support room welcomes anyone who wishes to share their stories about depression in a positive environment. Like anxiety, depression can also widely range from person-to-person, however, deep, supportive connections can be formed based off of similarities of experiences; Depression Support is the perfect place to foster these connections!

Depression Support is home to Depression Support Sessions, where trained moderators lead guided weekly discussions on various depression-related topics. If you ever see a Depression Support session happening while you're online, hop in!

High School Support

High School Support is where high schoolers around the globe can unite and share their struggles and experiences from high school. High School can be one of the most stressful and challenging time in one's life, yet it can also be exciting and full of growth. The High School Support room is a place to seek support about struggles, events, hardships, or even positive moments that happened during high school. Meet with your peers in this supportive environment for high schoolers!

This room is also home to Student Support sessions, where teen group mods can come together with other high schools in guided discussions on High School-related topics! Stop by one if you ever get the chance!

LGBTQ+ Support

LGBTQ+ Support is a place where members of the LGBTQ+ Community can come together and be one community in a safe, unjudgemental space. Once again, participants in this room will never judge, as the LGBTQ+ Community is one community who supports and cares for each other. Even if you're not a member of the LGBTQ+ Community, you're still welcome to join in and support those who are! The Community is always looking for allies.

This room is also the home to LGBTQ+ Support sessions, where skilled teen moderators come together with the LGBTQ+ Community and lead discussions on sexuality & LGBTQ+-related topics! Join in!

Teen Support

The Teen Support Room is a Support Room that lacks a topic/specified audience. What this means is that although this is more of a supportive environment rather than the lighthearted one of the Community Room, one can literally talk about whatever's on their mind - there are no restrictions, and nothing's out of place here! If you're ever unsure of if your topic fits in one of the more specified rooms, you're welcome to hop in here!

A few general reminders for everyone...

​​​​​​7Cups is a supportive environment that welcomes anyone and everyone. With this being said, please remember to be kind and respectful of all chatroom participants at all times, including the moderators. Also, please refrain from mentioning the names (whether official or slang) of medications or drugs, and please remember to use overall appropriate and supportive language at all times. I encourage everyone to take a peek at the chatroom rules - moderators do enforce these rules at all times, so make sure that you don't break them!

Together, we can come together and make the support rooms the supportive, positive environments that they always have been. I encourage you to join me in making sure that these rooms not only become more supportive again, but stay supportive for time to come.
