Banner Titles

Hey Everyone!

Misty here! Butterfly

I just wanted to post about what's been happening today. and see if we can all get on the same page, Member and Listeners.

I am an avid chatter in the group support chat rooms.
I love joining in with discussions and quizzes and open chats almost as much as I love leading them.
So today I have entered five chatrooms linked to the 'Join A Group Discussion' using the clicky orange tab and really had no clue where they were taking place, which room, or if adult, or teen. (I am a trained Adult Teen Listener ATL).

When I put up a room banner announcement, I was trained to put the room title first and then the event so :-

example: 'Bipolar - anti-stigma discussion' or 'Family - Open for chat'

not just 'open chat' or 'open discussion' or 'quiz'

As a Listener and as a Member I clicked 'on several and then found myself in a room that for different reasons I did not want to attend, so I left.

What I am raising here is that please can we ask that all Support Session Leaders make sure that they put the room first and then the event in the banner title? Seems such a little detail but so important to many of our attendees here and will stop people dropping in and then leaving abruptly, or worse being told they are in the wrong room.

The room title can be shortened so perhaps just put 'Safety - Member Scenarios' so that it can all fit?

Of course some rooms and discussions are welcoming and suitable for everyone to attend and some Support Session Leaders do put the room name already too. Medal

Hope you are all having a great weekend

not sure who to tag . . . .

@MistyMagic

That does sound a sensible idea

@MistyMagic I've definitely shown up in rooms too that I wouldn't. Sometimes it's obvious what room a discussion belongs to, other times less so.

I think it makes sense. This has happened to me too a lot of times.

I thought it'd be more appropriate to have this thread be transferred to the SC leaders bubble but it's up to you c:

I'm just gonna tag our support team mentors and teen stars to inform their respective support session leaders: (The taglist might not be updated, please message me or any of the Group Support Mentor leaders to have you added or removed)

@Erato and everyone thanks for the brilliant replies and support for this. Butterfly

I posted it here so that members might also add their views as it affects them as much as listeners and session leaders? But its a valid point to move to the bubble, I was looking for Group Mod Zone and found it here?

I was thinking about this the other day when there were 5 discussions at once, and I couldn't figure out what any of them were or where they were.

P&G Team- Please start using Positivity Corner - Discussion Title

Let's see if we can help clear up some of the confusion at least on our end.

@MrJacob

That's a good idea, to put the room where the discussion is happening in the banner.

Team please be aware, you may have to shorten it to PC- Pos Cor - or something if there is a long title, as there is a character limit.

@MrJacob

Will do. I'm doing one later today so come check it out.

@Tazzie can you please find out if the line can be extended since some of our discussions have long titles?

@DanaMH Is there a character limit?

Nevermind.. Wow, that's really small

@MrJacob

Yes there is a limit and when we do discussions with long titles we are always asked what the title is. This field needs more characters for us to type in.

@DanaMH
I will need to ask an admin. Is it also possible to shorten titles to have them capture the essence of the discussion? Just an idea laugh

@Tazzie

Not some of them unfortunately. Some words just have lots of letters in them which doesn't help.

@MistyMagic Thanks for the feedback! I do hear your point and see what you mean about being taken into rooms you may not have wanted to go into.

Firstly, I'd just like to mention that this hasn't been a rule before so I don't want anyone who has not been adding their room name to feel like they have been doing something wrong. We haven't trained people to do that. So anyone that has been doing that differently please know that's perfectly okay!

The aim of these titles are to give you an idea of what the session is about. It needs to be concise and catch the eye. I feel that with things such as Open chats I understand where you are coming from and we could benefit by adding the room name to that. I do feel that in many other cases it is going to make the titles long and we wouldn't get what we are looking for out of it though.

I appreciate the feedback and the thoughts that have been shared! <3 I think we should wait until our admin team is back on Monday and we can hear some thoughts from them too.

We can do that. I still would appreciate if room title was shown by default it's not rocket science. The lengh of title is limited, it would help a lot!

@MistyMagic i see your point however as lorraine pointed out no one was trained to add room names to titles some discussions written do already have it in Anxiety do as i always put Anxiety Support topic however its definetly not wrong to leave that out since once in the room you can see the room name wether you choose to leave or stay isnt forced upon anyone
