**AND ANY AND ALL NEWBIES!!
**This past week has gone Really well (or rather ended on a Really great Note for me).. I got some really Awesome news a few days ago that I've been waiting Two years to hear!!..... My anxiety levels weren't too bad, My husband was home a few days this week so we got to spend extra time together after the holidays which was nice and rang the New Year together in our Pj's watching the Ball Drop on TV, drank some grape wine, and I made some appetizers. All in all it's the "simple" things!...We had a blast..... My son got a NEW Car this week and since he works an HOUR away from home, its a Godsend to know he will be driving in a much safer vehicle!!...![]()
**I had taken some time off from exercising during the holidays and just wanted to give my body and mind a rest during that time. I just wanted that time to be for me and my family. But this past week, I managed to get back to teaching ZUMBA again. I only taught one class though this week due to my Monday class falling on New Years day. Its been FREEZING temps here, so I managed to do one of my home Dvd's as well. Today is our local Bi-Monthly POUND Fitness class, so my intentions are to go get my workout in there. ![]()
** With the holidays, my eating hasn't been the greatest, but I have just done my grocery shopping lastnight, and got my good stuff "stocked" and ready to start a Fresh New week and get back on track with my eating plan and plan to continue my workout schedule of 6 days a week... and to continue to increase my water which has been going well.. as well as continuing to get to sleep earlier (which I 've been doing by decreasing by an hour at a time since I'm very much a "night-owl")... ~![]()
**My medical coverage has gone up a tiny bit now that the New Year has started.. so I now realized some of my app'ts will cost more, and a med that I take daily has gone up in price. Needless to say I was not too happy about that part of this week. But... I know it will work out
Hope everyone else's New Year has started off well~
Hi!! Well, so far, this year, I've been sick with the flu, still have symptoms of it but i have patients to take care of so, masking up and keeping hydrated is what I'm doing oh and resting, lots of resting.
I did install a 30-day fitness challenge on my phone with all the intentions of starting it, unfortunately, bringing in the new year sickly I haven't started but once I get my bootay feeling better and at 100% I will start my 30day challenge.
whootwhoot 2018 Healthy Living
@Keola
Sorry to hear that Keola.. Hopefully you will start to get feeling better soon! And continue on with you Challenge! Please keep us informed on how that is going for you and what type of results you are getting!
Thanks so much for checking in this week and letting us know how things have been going!
@PoliteOcean ... thank you. I'll continue to check in for sure. I'll beat this flu bug soon for sure :D
@PoliteOcean
Over the past week, I've been feeling good! Still energetic, motivated, and have initiative. It is a wonderful feeling. It's been two years since I felt this good. That's a long time to put up with feeling blah to bad when I could have felt good. LOL!
I ended up sleeping right through the magical midnight when we moved from 2017 to 2018.
That wqas quite unintentional. I guess I was really tired. Later on New Year's Day, I fixed Hoppin' John and had Mom over for lunch. We enjoyed some time together, ate, and then visited a little longer. Lovely day. Nothing fancy, just some nice quality time with my mom.
I don't set goals/rssolutions for the new year. I choose a word of the year. Although I haven't done the "word of the year" retreat yet (it's in mid-January), I'm leaning toward Nurture/Nurturing. My focus on the year wqill be on how to nurture myself...healthy eating, exercise, mindfulness, self-care, etc. After I set my word of the year, then I may set some goals around it; however, we'll wait and see if I really do select Nurture.
@BridgetAileen
Thats awesome that you have started this year feeling so great!... Sorry to hear that you slept through the turn of the New Year, but yes your body must've have needed it if it didn't allow you to stay awake for it. ...So nothing wrong with that
Its great that you also got some quality time in with your mom. Thats really nice. I feel like I don't get enough of it with my own mom. My step-dad (her husband) always has her running around on some type of "excursion" so seems like she is always on the go and not around as much as she used to be....But thats ok, she has a life to live too.. I guess I should try to plan lunch with her sometime soon. We haven't done that in ages.
Thats great that you have your "own" way of making a goal/plan for yourself each year. By choosing a "Word" to center your year around, Thats a really "unique" and great way to do it! Can't wait to hear the word that you have decided on and chosen!.. Do be sure to let us know!
Thanks so much for checking in this week and for letting us know how you've been doing!
@PoliteOcean
HOW has everyone been doing and feeling over this past week? I have been doing alright
How did you celebrate and Bring in the New Year?! I went to a friend's house :)
What Are Your Goals and plans for the New Year Ahead?! oh man...I have a few. Just trying to get healthy in general.
How do you plan to put those goals in place and succeed? Support and love :)
I have had a nice holiday season. There was little exercising and lots of cookies and candy, but hopefully this coming week I can get back on schedule. I have several lunches and dinners in the freezer, and a list of some quick and easy but healthy meals, since I have no time to cook most weeknights. I was at my mom's over New Year's weekend. She, my sister, and I were all in bed long before midnight! On Dec 30, we had a family dinner with both my sisters, my sons, and mom. It was our first Christmas without Dad, so there was sadness along with the fun and happiness.
I went back to work on Jan 3, and then we had 2 snow days on Jan 4-5, so I worked one day this week! It was lovely to be off and I did a little cooking, but a lot of eating (brie, crackers, and wine!) and not much exercising. My stomach has been a little better. I have another week and a half until I see the doctor to get the pathology from the various samples they took.
@SadMe70
Hey there Sad! So glad to see your check in this week.. I have been thinking about you. You crossed my mind this past week as I hadn't really seen you around the past week. I was wondering how things had been going for you with your stomach situation and how the testing had gone. Please keep us informed on how everything works out.
Its great that you went to your Mom's for New Years and celebrated with everyone.. We were supposed to do the same thing, but then my mom decided she just wasn't up to doing that this year right after all the Christmas festivities ... so a quiet New Year at home with the Hubby was nice as well. My son had to work anyway New Years Eve. Barely made it home about 10 minutes before the New Year came in. lol......It is very nice to hear that you all had that time together. And I'm sure you all enjoyed being together as well.
I know what you mean about all the "extras" of this holiday season. Its challenging to get back on track once you've gotten off for so long but it can be done. I stocked up on healthier food as well to help with it all..........And as somebody who has worked for the "School System" I must say I know exactly how you feel about getting those "relaxing snow days'!.. lol...Those are great. I remember one year, we had just come back from the New Year so we already had that Monday off... and then for the rest of the month We had a "snow day" EVERY Monday for the rest of that January (with the exception of also being off for MLK holiday!)... So for an entire month we had 4 day work weeks. That was so awesome! lololol........ I'm sure you enjoyed both days off and the "extended" vacation time to the fullest!
Also, I forgot that this would be the first Christmas Holiday without your Dad. I'm sure that must've been difficult for you all. Especially your mom. Its just great that you were all able to be together during that time and just be of a "Support" to one another. I'm sure that he was there will ALL of you in Spirit!
Thank you so much for checking in this week and for letting us know how you've been doing!
I'm planning to get my medical issues figured out.
@Rebekahwriter13
Thats a great start Rebekah. Perhaps getting all of those things figured out will help you towards living an "Overall" healthier lifestyle (Mentally, Emotionally, Physically). Great job at taking those first steps in trying ot feel better.
Its good to know what we are able to do to help ourselves. Thanks so much for checking in this week and letting us know how you are doing. Keep us informed on how things continue to go for you please.
Well I can definitely say that the first week of 2018 has been terrible, except for New Years Day. I did the New Years Day dip for the animal shelter I volunteer for and while I really enjoyed it, it has made me really sick. When I'm better though I'm looking forward to making the most of this year. I really want to help myself as much as I can in 2018 and some of my New Year's resolutions are: taking all of my tablets, drinking at least 5 cups of water per day, and sleeping for at least 8 hours :) I also start college again tomorrow so I hope that goes well.
@strugglingmegan
Sorry that you are not feeling well megan.... but its really great that you have a plan for yourself this year. And are working on those goals to better yourself this year! Those are all really great goals and plans to work on and get on track with. Best of luck to you on reaching those goals. Thanks so much for checking in this week and letting us know how you've been doing. Keep us informed on how things are going for you.
New Year's Eve was even more low key than usual. We often like to do a fondue, but neither of us really felt like it. So we did a stirfry, something we often do with all the leftover fondue veggies. It was a nice lighter meal between the Christmases in Dec and Jan.
This week I skipped on the workout. Christmas prep felt like it was enough work, so didn't want to overdo things.
I did get my rowing machine. My husband put it together today for me. I tested it out just to see that it feels decent, but I didn't even put runners on. Today is not the day to really use it, I need some recovery time after hosting Christmas Eve yesterday.
I am looking forward to using it this week though! It is defintely no where near as nice as what I use at the gym, but it also was in the low 100s instead of being about $1500. I got a magnetic model, and I think that is what is causing a bit of a 'bumpy' sensation. It is consistent throughout every pull though and reading reviews for a magnetic model this is a good one. I have time to really test it out and see if it's suitable or if I want to return it. I think it will be good though, if I really love it and use it for longer lengths of time than what I know I will be using to start then I would consider selling and upgrading. I think selling would be fairly easy, there are lots of bikes and stuff online, but very few rowing machines - I know I have been keeping an eye out for used ones!
@AffyAvo
Nothing wrong with a more low-key New Years eve.. thats what we ended up doing as well. My mom wasn't up to anything big like she usually does after all the Christmas prep. So me and my husband just relaxed and did low-key too with a few appetizers.
I really want to get a "rower" as well... I've been looking at them online and really loved them when I used to use them at the indoor bootcamp a few years ago...
Keep me informed on how it works out for you... I realize that the cheaper models wont' be as good as the more expensive models are. But if you end up liking it let me know. I'm still looking at different brands and reviews on them myself and dont' want to spend a bundle for sure.
Thanks for checking in this week and keeping us up to date on how things are going.
@PoliteOcean I'm impressed with the diversity in the exercise you've done! When I had few exercise limitations I used to do all kinds of classes, but they all had lots of similarities - dance, step, cardio with weights, etc. Zumba would fit within that same category I think.
Spin classes, classes uses rowing machines - never did anything like that.
@AffyAvo
Thank you Affy!...
I will be the first to tell you that I really don't care to exercise if I don't have to! lolol.... But ... for me, the funny thing is once I started my "Healthy Living" journey about 7 years ago, when I started Zumba, (which was a "no-brainer" for me because I love to dance) it gave me so much endurance and I saw changes happening so fast, that it 'Made" me want to do "More" (and try more)! When I found Bootcamp, I can't even tell you what I was thinking.. it must've been GREAT ADVERTISING! Thats the only thing I can say or even remember about it lolol!..... But whatever I read, I remember thinking to myself, "Oh thats what I need to change my body!"... That was in 2012 the year after I started Zumba. And once I got there, and was "Pushed' and had my limits tested, that is what got me trying things I hadn't tried before....That was Outdoor bootcamp, which is surely different than indoor....
When I did "indoor" thats when I tried the Rowing Machines.... I just like "fun" things that will also "challenge" me, or I just can't get into it. I like "different" as well. I just thought the Rowing Machine was really fun, without putting much stress on the body as well. Which is something else I also like.
So I'm really interested in seeing what you think of your machine... I could just put that in my garage and try something new If I could just get some reliable reviews on them.
Hi Everyone,
I am new to 7 cups and am looking forward to getting to know people a bit better. I must say that I am very impressed with the support everyone gives and receives on 7 cups. I have come to a conclusion that I want to improve my health for my body and mind! I quit smoking December 12th out of no where and cold turkey! I have been a bit stressed about money and it was stressing me out to pay for them! It is going very good and I dont miss it all that much anymore I have an idea that I would like to do something healthy for myself every month, whether it be kick a bad habit or create a healthy new one. I also downloaded an app on my phone called 8fit that I plan on starting right away! Have a great week everyone.
