Sadly, I actually encountered a bit of a set-back this weekend
Because of some good weather I really wanted to go on a long bike ride last Saturday (which I did, it was wonderful and very relaxing to me). But I've been struggling with a very serious knee injury for years already (I had surgery, but doctors made it worse instead of better). Apparently the bike trip was a bit too much and I seriously hurt my knee later that evening. I couldn't even move off of the couch even, so my mom and dad just helped me set up camp downstairs. My knee was swollen really badly, and I didn't really sleep that night at all. My knee is still swollen and painful and it's actually a little demotivating right now.
Any thoughts on this? Or people who can relate to this experience?
@JayTheBird14
I'm so sorry to hear that you are in so much pain. I'm also sorry to hear that what started as such a great ride and beautiful day for you turned into something opposite of how it started.
My husband suffers from knee issues as well, and I also have some (what I like to call "kinks and twists" from natural aging I imagine)... I teach Dance Fitness, so I'm always jumping around and twisting.... so I have to be careful as well. My husband has had issues for years, possibly more than what he tells me about, however, he keeps alot to himself. I know he recently mentioned that it was starting to feel worse for him and is considering injections at this point for now.
Its sad to hear that your "surgery" got so "botched-up" for you. Have you gotten a second opinion on that ? Or get another surgeon to look at it for you? As a nurse, thats always my recommendation, along with RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression & Elevation~
Be sure that you are giving it plenty of rest and keeping it elevated to help with lessening the pain. Ice for Swelling (possibly alternate with some heat for pain). But Ice is crucial in the beginning when the pain and swelling starts. Please take care of yourself, and keep us updated on how things are going for you! And please reach out to another physcian if you haven't already. There have been so many advances in knee surgeries. Thank you so much for checking in this week and letting us know how you've been doing!
@PoliteOcean
Thank you so much for your support, understanding and advise!
I've just done some internet research, and there is a great surgeon in a nearby city that is specialized in knee injuries. An aunt of mine recdommended him and she says that he's very good at what he does. Thanks for mentioning getting a second-opinion, I really felt kind of left alone by the organisation who did my surgery, but to me it was like: "whelp, you made a bad decision there, stupid." Never really thought about just going anywhere else really, until now
As for the icing and elevating, I've become a real pro at that hehehe. It's just that I want to prevent this from happening again. It isn't fun to never know when it'll hurt again all of the sudden and I'll be inmobilized for an entire day. Especially if I'm out of the house. Then my mom and dad gotta pick me up with my crutches because I just can't move without those.
Thanks yet again for all the seriously good advise, I hope this will finally help me either find a remedy for whatever is wrong with my knee, or that I'll at least figure out how to improve things.
You're awesome, take care!
P.S. I'm sorry to hear about you, and especially your husband. I hope the both of you can improve your situations as well, because a hurt knee is absolutely terrible. You need those things, you know XD
Hello everyone! I just joined this subcommunity and it seems like this is going o be a great journey!
So we had a week of school holiday due to Chinese New Year and my family and I celebrated it. It was fun, kinda stressful to get everyone ready and it was a great week! Got to do a lot of cleaning and tidying up which makes me feel way better for some reason :) I don't feel too depressed either. I'm going back to school tomorrow, and still have a few homework to get done, so i'l have to leave soon.
Hope everyone's having a splendid day!
Welcome to the communtiy and we are glad to have you here !
@wolfdoglovesparx1
I am going to call this my strongly check-in:
really really bad play on words. I am sorry in advance. But you all are stuck with me. This is my sub-community of choice for my internship. I feel really involved in my own healthy living and I aspire to share my trade secrets with others. Let's make this a win-win, relationship :)
Sorry for the larger than life font, but I find it makes things easier on the eyes.
How have I been doing?
Great. I have been learning more effective ways to exercise patience and to exercise my body, and my dog friend. She needs exercise, also.
Motivators?
Opportunity. Catching up with classic friends. My grind.
Highlights?
Chatting with my brother, talking with my co workers about how sad they will be to see me go; I feel like they really care about me.
This month/ weekend stuff..
Finding work opps, making my opps a reality, being proactive. Meetings all my co workers again this weekend. Maybe take advantage of it being safety week at work to campaign 7cups. They mentioned everything except mental health, for reasons I am unsure. I have been trying to become more active on the forums. Offline, I have been making a conscious effort to become more committed to my physical rehab, and it's WORKING.
Finally, I am hoping ti find how to better provide resources on here, for members and listeners alike. I want to create unique forum posts also, to generate discussion on my trade secrets as well as uncover what others may have as their trade secrets. Any things in particular you all would like to talk about? Lemme know! @SteadfastStatue
@SteadfastStatue
Sounds like a great check-in for you Steadfast!.... I'm also glad to hear that you chose 'This" subcom to be yours while doing your internship. Its also great that you are being proactive with so much in your life and taking charge of things and making things happen for yourself.
Also, I love the idea of you wanting to find and provide resources here in the community as well as make and create more unique forum posts! Look forward to seeing what you have ahead! (And personally can't wait to hear about what your "trade-secrets" are).... I love a good "secret"
... Thanks so much for checking in this week and letting me us know how things are going for you.
@PoliteOcean
Thank you, kindly for your post. I probably will take some time to stay green on here and see what members and listeners alike are saying. I want it to benefit everyone ^_*
This weekend was a long weekend, got to spend it with my family. Health wise, I'm not doing well. Just completely exhausted. Yesterday was the sickest I have felt in a long time from just chronic problems. I feel pretty stuck feeling that sick when there aren't outward signs, it's feeling bad enough to think maybe I should be in the hospital but realizing there isn't much they can/will do.
Today was better and I got out for a bit. I actually thought about rowing for a bit then got some sense, I don't want tomorrow to be a repeat of yesterday. I did get on a foam roller - not rolling in the traditional sense as that pressure level is too high, but I did open up my back a bit. Just laying on it lengthwise is beneficial.
@AffyAvo
Sorry to hear that you aren't feeling that great Affy... Its great though that you still check in with us, and let us know that and how you are doing regardless.. We want to hear it. We can't always feel 100% all the time....So we appreciate you checking in and letting us know how things are going week to week. We are alll here for each other!
It has been a kind of exhausting weekend and such, I agree with you there. And that Foam Roller sounds great. I've never bought one or used one, but just the thought of it has always made me want one. My upper back has been tight for days. I'm sure every little bit can help you even if not in the traditional sense of exercise, or (foam-rolling) but feeling well enough to break it out and get a little bit out of it, can help you feel somewhat better physically. Thanks for checking in as always!
This week has been a whirlwind of emotion, but is now settling down midweek.
Got a permanent job, was accepted into the 7cups Internship
Wrapping up a few things in my part time role now and planning the next steps to fulfil my life.
Enquired about some volunteer work that I have been wanting to get into for a looooong time.
Lost more weight on my weightloss journey.
All in all, I can't wait to see what the next few days bring - all towards a happier, healthier person.
@GoodPoint
Well done on getting a permanent job! GOOD For you!... And congrats on your internship. Sounds like you will have a busy plate ahead of you, with working and volunteering. And its great that these are all positive things in your life and things that you have been wanting to make happen. Also congrats on your "Weight-loss"! Thats awesome for you. I know its always great when our bodies cooperate with us and we see that hardwork on the scale as well...... And yes, happier and healthier are great things for sure!..Continue to keep up the great work that you are doing for yourself and thanks so much for checking in this week!
