I really wanted to dress up for Halloween, but I've been unemployed for almost a year and have no money to work with and I'm heartbroken because it's my favorite holiday. I'm carving a pumpkin and watching spooky movies and eating Reese's pumpkins, but the magic is in dressing up and showing off and I'm seeing everyone post their pictures and come to school looking good and it just crushes me and makes me feel sad & jealous.

I've been angry at my family lately. They act like everything is my fault and have no compassion to spare, it's frustrating because they don't realize I'm doing my best and if I talked to my friends the way they talk to me, I wouldn't have any. I'm tired of feeling like I don't matter and them having a "too bad so sad" attitude about me while expecting me to bend to their every whim.

After Halloween, I'm going to catch up on homework and school assignments and try to pull through the semester despite distractions. I'm going to try asking for my job back as a seasonal chocolatier and hope I can get back in, because I'm getting desperate. I'm trying not to fall behind in school with so much depression and family chaos, but I'm also trying to write scholarship essays because I got accepted into my dream university with no way to afford or pay for it.

I feel embarrassed, short changed in life and frustrated. I'm 25 but I'm still living with my parents because I had to leave my last job due to traumatic injury and hearing loss so I've been suffering but they still treat me like I'm a child. My mom knows and keeps tabs daily on my Instagram and tells me to delete my posts, polices my social media like she would a kid, my dad does the same thing and tells me to take my Facebook posts down. Sometimes he'll even call my mom in and have her look at whatever he didn't like, and I think it's ridiculous. I'm an adult, I'm allowed to express myself and they shouldn't be policing me anymore or overseeing my internet activity. But I feel like I have no voice, no power and no identity. I'm so sick to death of them controlling me, like I need to be kept on a leash. It makes me want to howl and scream inside.

Hey there!

So sorry to hear that you are feeling down about one of your favorite holidays. I'm sure its frustrating and difficult to not feel as though you are able to take part in it the way that you wish. I know we all have our "favorite moments" about it... For me personally I love going to Fall events or something spooky.. but I missed my chance b/c the event i wanted to go to was sold out... and then the others got rained out.... I found a little solace in watch a Horror Movie marathon.. But like you... I know it wasn't the same. So I can relate to that feeling on some level.....

Sorry to hear that unemployment is holding you back and causing challenges.. I hope that you are able to find something soon. With the Christmas season arriving very soon, I'm sure alot of places will be looking to hire... And even though some might only be for the holidays, I'm sure there are those who manage to continue to keep the employees that they hire on as well.

I'm sure its been difficult for you in not being able to get along with your family lately... I know how challenging that can be.

I think its really great that you have a plan for "after" Halloween and that you focused on trying to pull through the semester ahead. I think its really great that you managed to get accepted into your dream school. And thats a really proud accomplishment. Just know that you can do whatever you put your heart and soul into... It doesn't mean that you can't make your dreams happen. Because you CAN!.. It might take some work and determination, but as long as you have it, you can do it.

I am so sorry to hear about your home situation and your injury. My heart really goes out to you right now. I can relate on a small level as I too was once "back at home" for a short time in my very early 20's and it was a very challenging situation to be in... I too felt like I was being told what to do on some level even though I was grown. and that is certainly not a position that any adult wishes to be in. I'm not sure where you are located (which country etc...) but if you are in the USA there are many places that could possibly help someone in your position to find work, to find housing, get you back on your feet and possibly help with schooling too!...... you just have to know who to call and where to look. And with the help of internet and google, it shouldn't be too difficult to find a few places to call that can perhaps help you get in a better place for yourself!

I really wish you the best and send you many positive vibes that you are able to get out of that position and into a much better situation!.... Please check back and let us know how things are going for you. I would like to know and hear that you are doing ok. Please keep us updated and thank you so much for checking in this week!
