National Pizza Day 🍕
February 9th is National Pizza day, and to celebrate I thought I'd share how to make your own pizza!

Pizza Recipe:
What you'll need:
- Large bowl
- Spoon to mix
- Cling film or tea towel
- Flat, clean work surface
- Rolling pin
- Knife (to divide the dough)
- Pizza tray (for each pizza you make)
- Pizza toppings of your choice
Ingredients for the dough:
- 500g strong white bread flour
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 tsp golden caster sugar
- 7g dried yeast
- 325ml warm water

Method:
🍕 STEP 1
Mix together the flour and yeast. Then add the sugar and salt, and mix again.
🍕 STEP 2
Make a well in the dry mixture and add ⅔ of the warm water. (make a 'bowl' shape in the flour that's large enough to hold the water). Mix until it starts to form a dough, adding the rest of the water slowly.
- Note - you may not need to use all of the water as you do not want the dough to become too wet and sticky. You also may need to add more water if the dough is too dry and crumbly.
- Tip - if you accidentally use too much water and it is sticky, sprinkle in some more flour and mix until less sticky.
🍕 STEP 3
Sprinkle some flour on a work surface and tip out your dough. Knead for 5-10 minutes until it forms a soft, elastic dough. It should be soft and spring back when lightly touched.
🍕 STEP 4
Place in a clean bowl, lightly sprinkle some flour over the dough and cover (with either cling film or a tea towel). Leave in a warm place for 15 minutes.
- If you're making the dough in advance, you can also leave the dough to rise in the fridge until needed.
🍕 STEP 5
Divide the dough evenly into 3 or 4 pieces.
🍕 STEP 6
Take one of the pieces of dough and roll out on a flat surface (dusted lightly with flour so it doesn't stick). Roll the dough to your preferred thickness - I usually aim for 5mm thick. Roll each of the pieces out.
🍕 STEP 7
Cover and leave to rest for 15-30 minutes. You could use this time to prepare any toppings you want to add later.
🍕 STEP 8
Heat oven to 200°C
🍕 STEP 9
Add your toppings, then place in the oven for 7-8 minutes. The dough should be golden when finished, if you need you can leave it in the oven for a few minutes longer, but make sure to check regularly so that it doesn't burn.
🍕 STEP 10 (the best step)
Serve and eat! 😋

My favorite pizza topping is good ol cheese! But it has to be certain kinds of cheeses because sometimes they mess it up!
I really like my crust so thick crust! But I also appreciate the crunchiness of thin crusts as well!
I've never really made a pizza from scratch, but I'm definitely thinking of doing so in the future!
Question for you: What do you think of pineapple on pizza?
@SleepyShyCat
Hello.
My favorite toppings are pepperoni, mushrooms, green peppers and onions.
I like all styles of crust, but I guess my favorite would be thick like Sicilian style.
Homemade pizza can be great but I haven't made my own in years.
@aloneguy123
Sicilian pizza 😮😋🍕
@SleepyShyCat
Yeah it's so good. I actually ended up ordering pizza today. It was just regular delivery style from a national chain, but still I had pizza on pizza day 🙂.
@SleepyShyCat I personally don't really like pizza
@ImAnOnBiNaRyGiRaFfE543
What do you prefer instead? 😄
@SleepyShyCatI love PIZZA especially home made ones, I will try that recips and see how I get on
I used to work in a pizza shop and I was very good at throwing dough in the air and catching it :)
@CocoaCassie
Cool! Throwing dough is one thing I definitely can't do, I'm bad at catching 😆
@SleepyShyCatit actually isn't that hard, the throw is slower than you might imagine bnecause the dough stretches as it spins lol but there were a were splats whikst learning, but we only used one piece of dought for that untill we got better, by then the dough was a bit grey and fluffy with all the bits it had picked up off the floor
@SleepyShyCat Awesome post Happy Pizza Day! Ooh I can imagine a pizza party later!
