Aromatherapy as a Hobby?

User Profile: BusyBird

I started collecting perfumes and similar things some months ago. I'm absolutely addicted because I've been simultaneously enjoying them but also using them as a teeny tiny little emotional thing. Like a little tiny something to make life more bearable. I wear them 24/7.

I have some favorites already. What do you guys like? What do you think of using scent for simple pleasures and for an emotional anchor?

@BusyBird

I think we all need something to make us feel better 🥰

What scents do you like and why?

@Amanda84 True 🧡

I like some warm and comforting smells like amber and vanilla or even honey 🍯. Also some musky scents can be comforting too as I found two good ones recently. Incense can add a little uniqueness to them also. And sometimes dewy flowers like honeysuckle or jasmine. I think lastly a very well-made rain smell can be very helpful. 🌧

Sorry if that's a lot 😅

Do you like any specific smells more than others in general? :)

I have a book on aromatherapy, and I find it very interesting. Wow, u make rain scents? I've always loved the scent of petrichor. Are u comfortable sharing what u add in ur rain mix?

@caringShoulder1357 Citrus is good! I've seen many attempt orange in oil-based scents.

I studied aromatherapy when I was younger! It was part of my beauty education. I love the calming scents most: lavender, vetivert, chamomile and a little patchouli is my bedtime blend.

I'm also a perfume addict and wear perfume every day! It makes me so happy to have a nice scent. I love Oakcha perfumes. They make the best copies of expensive perfumes! I wear their Sweet Addict, Sweven, Morning Rain, and Plus One.

@TovaCares76 Oh my goodness you're like me in this regard 😆 And those sound like amazing scents! Maybe I'll have to look into those dupes as well. Especially the rain one you mentioned. Does it actually smell like rain or is that just a fancy name? Lol

It's a fancy name. It's a dupe for a perfume called Gypsy Water. It smells just like the real thing

@TovaCares76 Ooh I just searched it up.

All I have is a tiny oil "perfume" that smells like puddles in the rain and such. It's teeny tiny though!

I like getting scents through Microperfumes too because they have travel sizes and sample sizes for very good prices.

@BusyBird I love this! I find scents can be calming. I like citrusy plus other combinations that I can think of right now. But totally love it!

@BusyBird I never much cared for aromatherapy but someone gave me lavender oil and chamomile oil to I guess help relax? I tried both, not sure if they do anything, but lavender oil I learned scares away bugs so I use a spray sometimes to keep them out of my room. Not sure if that counts?

I think scent is a great way of instilling simple pleasure. Scent can also be linked to nostalgia which as you stated emotional anchoring is integral to making life a bit more bareable. You are doing great!

I am living 55 km from the nearest town, and my yard is covered on three sides with vetiver grass. Although I can't smell it, the aromatherapy that I get in my yard makes it a pleasant, loveable place. I don't want to live without my daily dose of aromatherapy!

@Willisten Ooh the smell of grass is one of the best! I'm so happy you get that right outside of your own house :D
