Learning to act before feeling ready
Hi there everyone! Another dimension I have been thinking about is ‘Acting’, which is about turning our awareness into real steps. It is about taking initiative and following through even when feeling unsure. It is taking action before waiting to be ready. This is something I resonate with a lot as a recent shift in my life. For so long I waited to be ready until I realised that I need to take action to see anything happen. It can take a lot of courage to act, to decide to show up even with so much uncertainty. I find that everyday this courage looks different, but the growth in action is still present because the mindset shift changes your approach to life.
I am proud that I have been able to show up on 7 cups, not knowing but trying anyway. I am proud that I am setting small boundaries, even when it feels like new territory.
What actions have you taken recently that you feel proud of?
What has helped you overcome the fear of acting before feeling ready?

This resonates with me. I’m starting to think that waiting to feel ready can sometimes become another way of staying stuck. One small action I’m proud of is choosing to show up here, listen, and learn by doing. For me, the fear gets smaller when the first step is small enough to actually take.

What actions have you taken recently that you feel proud of?
After feeling highly demotivated, I took a decision to volunteer for the gardening program called tiny greens; Recycling and Upcycling program and another teaching opportunity called AI literacy. The program aimed at educating orphan students about the basics of AI, how to use the tools and their different aspects, etc.
What has helped you overcome the fear of acting before feeling ready?
The fact that I could make a difference through various environmental and educational programs helped me to overcome the late night sleeps & restless days. The volunteering opportunities turned my purposeless mornings into meaningful wake-up alarms!
What about you?
@HeartyAlly
What actions have you taken recently that you feel proud of? Framing failure as area of development in an interview - In the past I've tended to avoid this but it felt authentic in the moment. There is beauty in unrehearsed moment.
What has helped you overcome the fear of acting before feeling ready? Keeping the worries just for today and letting tomorrow have its own worries. Spontaneity - this is super duper important. Nobody can see your personality if you are always wondering what is the right thing to say. Take on board tips, explore various cultures and be keen to learn. Thats all!
Hello @HeartyAlly
I share your sentiment, generally. And this was my opinion when I registered as a Listener on 7Cups. I wanted to be ready, so I needed to thoroughly browse the site, seek guidance from a Mentor (who has not connected with me yet) and take more tests that proved my mental readiness and acuity.
However, I logged a day after registering and saw at least half a dozen private message requests. 👀
Despite my natural inclination to listen and to help and the confidence in my abilities, especially based on the evidence of being 'that person', I believed that I needed to be ready according to 7Cups standards. So, it was wisdom that warned me not to engage Members before I felt judged 'ready' by 7Cups, not fear.
Personally, I will be the one to tell others to call the Police/Fire svc while going to the aid of someone. I will simultaneously assess the situation, the need, their safety, my safety, risks and potential outcomes while 'acting' but with an institution such as 7Cups, my immediate thought was to wait until I am 'ready'.
But what did I do when I saw those requests? I saw persons who needed a listening ear and I responded to their requests. I have not looked back since.
@HeartyAlly Reminding myself that no one feels 100% ready.
I'm proud of putting myself out there, even when I don't feel completely ready. Whether it's starting a new project or reaching out to others, I've learned that confidence often comes after taking the first step, not before. One small step at a time. ( ˶ˆᗜˆ˵ ) 🌱
I’ve been proud of taking small steps toward my goals, even when I wasn’t completely confident. What helps me is remembering that I can learn as I go instead of waiting until I feel fully ready.
