The world is in dire need of empathy and compassion

Empathy means to put yourself in one's shoes while compassion means to have the need to do so. But what I have noticed nowadays is that the world is in dire need of empathy and compassion. If we had empathy and compassion, would our planet be suffering? Would the people on our planet be suffering? This is a sad truth most people don't acknowledge and stand up for. It breaks my heart to know that people stigmatize too much empathy more instead of too less empathy. This should be taught in schools from kindergarten so that the future generations can have a moral compass.

Nowadays, GenZ (I am one of them so I can speak from my observation) has glamourized being 'nonchalant' where they hide emotions to the point of suppression. We should use social media to encourage positive acts such as charity to those who are in need instead of spending it on these trends which go away after a short period of time.  This is completely unhealthy and shouldn't be applauded for instead we should applaud those who have the strength and courage to be empathetic and compassionate.

 Questions:
What people in your life do you think are the most empathetic and compassionate? And how can you start adopting traits to be like them?

My nephews and niece are the kindest, patient, fun loving people, who care and don't take themselves too seriously. I can learn alot from them 💜💕

@Amanda84 That's wonderful! May I ask if they are older or younger than you?

I think my caregivers are the most empathetic and compassionate people I know. I live in Adult Foster Care, which is a step up from a nursing home situation. You move in with your caretakers in their family home. I live in their in-law apartment attached to their house. I have a TBI combined with mental health challenges, and they have taken me in like I am a part of their family.

I have begun to look at people differently, being more accepting. Getting to know other people with a genuine curiosity and caring for them out of what I've learned. I look at other people now not as I have something to teach them, but they have something to teach me.

@wonderfulComfort5057

I have some of the kindest and most empathetic friends a person can ask for, and I'm grateful for them everyday. The way they treat me inspires me to be more compassionate and reach out more to check in because they do the same for me, and it's good to feel so seen. I agree with you about the prevalence of nonchalance these days. We as a society should be more open with expressing our feelings, I think it would solve a lot of problems. :)

Indeed if the world is full of empathetic and compassionate people, it would be a safe world for everyone to let out their emotions without fear of being judged.

To adopt the traits of empathy and compassion, I would really need to work on active listening, build on having to listen to people without judgement, making it a safe and cojudgment space for them to share their feelings.

the most empathetic and compassionate people in my life are those who listen without judgment and make others feel truly seen. I can begin adopting their traits by practicing patience, validating feelings, and responding with pure kindness.
