✉️Letter to my symptom series week 4

✉️ Letter to my Symptom Series Week 4: Anger

Welcome back to the letter to my symptom series. This week, we are writing a letter to an intense and often misunderstood feeling: Anger.

Anger can make our blood boil, cloud our judgment, and make us want to react aggressively. Because of this, we often try to push it down. But anger is actually a vital, mandatory emotion. It is our internal alarm system that flashes when our boundaries have been crossed, when we are being treated unfairly, or when someone we love is hurt. It gives us the energy to stand up for ourselves.

So this week, we will thank our anger for being our protector and highlighting our worth, but we will also set a firm boundary. We will put a clear line between healthy anger that protects us, and the extreme, destructive anger that hurts ourselves and others.

✏️ How to participate:

Write a 5-to-10 sentence letter to your anger, acknowledging its role as your protector but setting strict boundaries on how it expresses itself.

Example:

Dear Anger,

I want to start by thanking you for being my fierce protector. Thank you for showing up when people treat me poorly and for reminding me that I deserve respect. You are proof that I care about myself and my boundaries. However, I need to tell you that your explosive outbursts are no longer welcome here. When you take over completely, you end up hurting the people I love and damaging my own peace of mind. I will listen to your warnings, but I will not let you control my actions or speak for me anymore.

— me

Ps: sorry for not posting yesterday for this i was kinda busyy

Dear Anger,

     You are my biggest friend and my harshest foe. I never could have lived this life without you, but all the same you have begun to take over my life, and the line between you and me has blurred almost into non-existence. Fight for me, Anger, not with me. We both have the same goal. We are both trying to survive.

Your companion,

Me.

Dear Anger,

First of all, I'm going to call you out for cussing about having a letter to open... You can go ahead and tell Anxiety that it's a false alarm.

Anyway, you're my favorite writing buddy, and you have better music taste than the rest of the emotions. Still, we gotta stop having these day-long heart-to-hearts. When people see us together, they don't think we're fun to be around, and they get scared of us. I know, I know, that can be constructive, but let's save it for when it serves us. Please work with me, I'm literally the only one who can stop you from making mistakes. Thanks in advance. Peace! (Get it?) 😂

P.S. I wouldn't have gotten through the retail work days without you. Seriously.

Dear anger,

You've always been the first to show up to protect me from the sticky situations and dangers this world has to offer. You've reminded me time and time again that I'm allowed to place boundaries to protect myself. unfortuently you've started to slowly take over as you claimed your dominance over everything else. Its time for you to recede back into the corner of my mind that you call home until you are once again needed. You are always welcome to stand up for me but not if you are going to needlessly hurt the people I care for.

I see you hiding quietly beneath the surface, masking the hurt and exhaustion I’ve been too reluctant to voice. I realize that you are  trying to protect me, but the way you stay locked inside only causes me pain. You have been holding on to every boundary that was crossed and every injustice I tried to swallow. It is no longer your job to carry this heavy weight alone, nor do you need to turn my own heart into a battlefield. I am ready to step forward, claim my voice, and release the tension you have forced me to hold. Thank you for trying to keep me safe, but it is time to set you down and let us both heal.

Sincerely,

Twist

@cheerfulKiwi1776

thanks i know where them messages come from a lot from family members who right out told me i was and also my ex hubby who used a form of brainwashing on me that he learned partly in military  and partly from his own childhood it why a lot happened when i was married  to him but at time did not see what was going on

my dad also was like that and my oldest brother so yes it hard to not allow the messages i had all my life to take over at times still working on that but being aware is first step in healing

@HopeWithinDarkness

Indeed being aware is first step in healing. Thanks for opening up. I m sorry you went through those things with your ex husband your dad and your brother. I know how hard it can be because my own father is ex military and he acts somewhat the same. Its okay to not heal overnight. Take your time. One step at the time helps a lot. We believe in you and we are here to support you.

@cheerfulKiwi1776

thanks sometime i think i should be healed fully by now started my healing journey little over 20 years ago even within still being in abuse up until moved in may 2017  i heard so many times  get over it forget it forgive them move on and other things like just give it to the Lord then move on so that made it even harder to believe  it ok to still be healing

but think the therapist  i have now is good one she stated  you had 47yr of abuse even after the worst of the abuse stopped you still had daily abuse so it was years and years of abuse you know it did not  happen 1  time but many times give yourself grace allow your self time even if it take rest of your life each healing step is a big win even when it not seem like it

Yes people indeed tell us many things like those you said in the first paragraph (get over it etc) which are hurtfull and mske us rush ourselves. 20 years of healing might seem really big to you but its okay if that means you will get better or you are already improving

Another thing I m so glad you have that person next to you who seems really helpful. Wishing you the best. @HopeWithinDarkness

Ira:

Lloro. Me hace mal. Acaso soy sólo un cuerpo? Te pregunto a tí Ira.

Estás empezando a entenderla.
