(OUTDATED) Course 1: Personal Leadership 101 - (Discussion 2) Understanding Your Gifts and Strengths from the MBTI
PLEASE VISIT THIS SUBFORUM TO PARTICIPATE.
-
Hello Leadership Crew!
I have just gone through the introduction thread and read about all of you. If you havent yet introduced yourself, then please stop by and share a little about yourself so we can get to know you. Im encouraged by all the great people that have joined. This should be a fun and enriching program!
Let me first zoom back and talk more broadly about your career and how we can help. When you become a leader on 7 Cups, we want you to find the work fulfilling. Fulfilling work means that it is:
a) work you are good at;
b) work that is interesting to you; and
c) work that solves an important problem or meets an important goal (Thiel, 2015).
The sweet spot is that blue area in the middle below.
If you do work that you are good at, but not interested in, then you wont do a great job. If you do work that you are interested in, but not particularly good at, then it wont be great work. If you do work that you are good at and interested in, but it isnt helping to solve an important problem, then we wont be a good fit for you. We need alignment on all 3 things. We work very hard at the beginning of your work with us to match your inherent strengths and interests with needs we have so that we can work together to solve problems that we all care about.
You have strengths – things that you are just really good at when compared with others. Operating out of your strengths feels good, is personally fulfilling, and enables you to hit flow states. As a result, you are much more effective and productive. Operating out of weaknesses is a drain. If you have to do work that you are not good at, then you wont be as effective. Doubling down on your strengths enables you to level up much faster and it helps 7 Cups make much more progress.
The next step becomes helping you find ways to identify your strengths, gifts or natural talents. You can learn some of this through self-observation - what do you seem especially good at? Are there things that just come natural to you that are more challenging for others? My wife, for example, is really good at writing; it just comes natural to her. Im pretty good at public speaking, whereas others find it more challenging.
Another way is to ask people you trust. You can say: What do you think Im good at? Or: what do you think are my top 1-3 strengths? Things that stand out to you about me? Note: only ask people you trust because sometimes people can give you feedback in a harmful rather than helpful way especially if they are not trustworthy.
For the purposes of this course, we are going to use personality tests to help you identify your strengths. Some of these are better than others; they are more reliable and have more research behind them. Broadly, we are using them here to help you begin to map out your strengths and to help you find ways where you can naturally excel here on 7 Cups, in your personal life, and in whatever career your are in or choose further down the road.
To start:
Go to this site here and take the test: https://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test
Next, in the thread below, answer the following questions:
1. What is your personality type? Include your 4 letters please
2. What were the main things you learned about yourself?
3. What are your top 3 strengths or gifts according to this test? Please describe them.
4. Please then reply to 3 of your peers in this thread with encouraging or supportive words!
Last, when people interact with one another, it makes the course more enriching and it allows us to learn more about one another. In addition to posting in the thread, please also be sure to respond in a helpful and positive way to at least 3 other comments in this thread.
You can also ask any questions in this thread and well respond to them as well.
Very excited to kick this off with all of you!
tagging the student body!

@Heather225
Hello everyone! So this is what I learned from taking the test:
1. I'm an INFP-T (Mediator)
2. I learnt that I tend to be led by the purity of my intention rather than rewards or punishment. Understanding ourselves and our place in the world is important to Mediators, and we explore these ideas by projecting themselves into our work.
3. My 3 main strengths are - Open-Minded and Flexible, Very Creative, Idealistic
@ahealingEndoftherainbow22
You are so, so amazing! I am really proud

@ahealingEndoftherainbow22
this is a great combo
@ahealingEndoftherainbow22 hello!! :) i just wanted to say that i love your interpretation of the mediator description and how understanding ourselves and our place in the world is important (i am a fellow mediator as well aha!)
@Heather225
I got INFP-T Mediator
With a mind 90% introverted
Identity 90% turbolent
And tactics 71% prospecting.
I learned that I'm a perfectionist, that I might be shy but if I put my mind into something I do it and that I have a lot of work to do on starting conversation
Hello @Ginevra962
This sounds amazing. And I guess we all need to work on starting conversations :p
Cheers!
@Ginevra962
90% Introverted sounds like a lot!! I can't imagine how hard socialising would be for you. Your observations and learnings sound spot on! Good luck
@Affliction1
I'm a fellow 90% Introvert and hope we too will have our community.
@Ginevra962 Your Mediator type reminds me of Marshall Rosenberg, related to nonviolent communication, and even Daisaku Ikeda, of Buddhism's Sakkai Gokkai International, of how crucial mediators are. On our journey towards peace, mediators are so important.
I also have been classified as turbulent. It makes sense, but I don't like that aspect about myself. I'm curious what you feel about that? One silver lining is that we probably end up more proactive because of it.
I'm glad you realize that if you put your mind to something, you can do it! <3
@JaimieF hey Jaimie! :) i am also a turbulent mediator and i can totally see where you are coming from-in not liking the turbulent aspect as much. though i relate to flexibility sometimes not being what is needed or helpful in a particular context, i try encouraging myself to look at it as being open minded and going with the flow (because life absolutely has its highs and lows). thank you for sharing and contributing to the discussion!
@Ginevra962
That is so unique! I love it.
@Ginevra962
That sounds very great Ginevra that you are perfectionist and I agree that it happens sometimes to be shy but i am glad that you tend towards starting conversation.
@Ginevra962
Conversation can be really difficult to initiate, but I am sure that you have so many great insights and feelings to share! :) You've got so many wonderful qualities!
@Ginevra962 Me too! It's cool to see there are a lot of like-minded folks here :)
@Ginevra962
Wow Gineva, that sounds really very great. All the best in your journey from myself.

@Heather225
I got ENFJ - Protagonist :)
I mean, the honest answer, is that I didn't learn much, I have a pretty strong self of character, but what this did was really enlighten me, that I am exactly one of the personalities. I mean it's really cool to see your personality written down.
Strengths:
- Natural Leader
- Charismatic
- Altruistic
@SupportiveMitch
That's great that you're a supportive leader. When there is little direction, you can easily lead the way!
@SupportiveMitch
Ayyy, that's wonderful. Not everyone can have strong personality. I can tell that your leadership will not only help guide others but also helps others be more confident in their abilities. <3
@SupportiveMitch
You have all the traits required to be a great leader! this is amazing, you'll make a tremendous different in the community :)
@SupportiveMitch
Cool. I'm a 90% introvert I hope being able to connect with many extroverts I can better relate to such people like you in my life and feel connected.
@Heather225
Hey everyone, I've taken the test!
I'm an INFJ-T :)
I learned that I am part of the rarest type in the world! I also learned a lot about the things I value, and that my creativity and perspective of the future drive me to achieve what I want to. I also learned that the careers I have watned throughout my life, like teacher, musician and therapist, are all ideal types of jobs for this personality :)

Creative: INFJs are able to use their ccreative flair to solve technical problems and moreso people problems. With an active imagination and a ton of compassion, motivation and desire to fix things, we are good problem solvers.
Insightful: We're able to discern fact from fiction and see through manipulation. We can find the honesty in a situation and can get straight to the point of any situation.
Inspiring: INFJs are very well spoken and well written, making them very motivational and inspiring to listen to. We're able to channel our thoughts, feelings and ideas into causes that mean a lot to us :)
@NoelLikesSunsets awesome for a long time i was INFJ - T but when I did test for this INFP-T was mynew personality I may be in the middle as therapist is my ideal for a mediator we set our minds to what matter to us no set career paths are written down

@Heather225
Hi! How are you?
I already knew, but I m a...
INFJ-T
Even if I think and know that there s more, my results are 1000% accurate.
One day, I readed something that made feel not special: with my results, I learned that people like me make up less than the 1% of the population! That and other things about me make me really special.
In these kind of tests, I always had a mixture of results. I was always in the middle of all the examined virtues. With this test, I learned that I am "an unique combination of traits". Even if I have trouble believing it, I m kind of the ultimate combo.
According to the test, I am highly altruistic: that means I want the good and only the good thing for everyone. I don t want to benefit myself, I want to benefit the entire world. And I do fight for my best interest: the thing is that my best interest is a good cause.
I am also an idealist: I have a lot of ideas about how the world should be. I think about everyone s best interest, and I mentally build possible solutions. Basically, I use my brain to solve problems and resolve challenges, but the important thing is that I easily focus on human issues and what to do to work them out.
The thing is that I am also determined: I do have ideas, but I do take action. This means I ll do whatever I can to actually work it out! Once I figured it out, I ll "rock the boat if I must". And I know I ll do what I have to do for my good cause with passion and joy.
As I said, there s more!
Have an amazing (just like you) day!
@Daf8
wow that was very insightful
Yes you are an ultimate Combo <3
