Course 1, Discussion 3: Avoiding Burnout
7 Cups is founded on a community of passionate volunteers who lovingly dedicate their time to providing support.
You may face what is called burnout during your journey. You may have already faced this in your real life. Burnout is very real and must be recognized. You can't help fuel someone else when your tank is empty, after all!
To address and learn about burnout, we have created a slidedeck on how to avoid burnout.
✒️ We also recommend this growth path on preventing burnout at 7 Cups.
✒️ Activity: Take 5 steps on the burnout prevention path linked above. Post in this thread to let us know you have completed at least 5 steps.

@Bismil66
You're doing awesome. You've got this.
@Bismil66 I'm glad to hear that there are others who really appreciated and benefitted from the full burnout path.
@Hope
I have taken 5 steps on the burnout path and plan to continue using this not only as an elective for ldp but also as a refresher regularly.
Here is a paragraph about parent-child mindfulness:
Parent-child mindfulness is about being present and aware of my interactions with my daughter. It means giving my full attention to the present moment, listening to her with my full attention, and accepting her and myself without judgment. This involves being aware of both our emotions, and responding to situations calmly and with compassion. By practicing mindfulness together, we can foster a stronger connection, improve communication, and help her develop emotional regulation skills. This involves simple activities like mindful listening through parent/child mindfulness podcast where we both focus on the sounds around us, or mindful movement ..@Hope
@Hope
I've taken 5+ steps. I feel so called out right now.
- Getting frustrated and annoyed at the simplest of things. - I tend to get frustrated at people's behavior easily even when it's harmless when I am on the verge of burnout.
- Always wanting to help others even when you have too much on your plate. - It's hard to let others down.
- Not asking for help/support when needed. - I'm too independent and worry about bothering people.
I am glad that you are noticing these signs, @Jenna, and this can be the first step to working toward preventing burnout and caring for yourself. You are a valuable member of the community, so don't forget to take breaks and ask for help and support as needed. Trust me, most times, you won't be bothering others, and they will be glad you asked them for help.
I have taken 5 steps
I use to get burnout when people don't give me a chance or when I run out of idea. And in middle of this I just sometimes take help by closing my eyes and thinking why I became a listener in first place
@SomeoneWhoListen Thank you for sharing that — it really resonated with me. 💙 It's so powerful that you take a moment to pause and reflect on your "why" when things get tough. That kind of self-awareness is a strength, and it’s what keeps your spark going even when the road gets heavy. Keep holding on to that purpose — you’re making a difference just by showing up. 🌟

Activity: Take 5 steps on the burnout prevention path linked above. Post in this thread to let us know you have completed at least 5 steps.
I already took the burnout prevention path as I was working on my internship requirements before taking leadership roles. I am retaking the path as part of my commitment to caring for myself and preventing burnout as a leader on 7 cups. I took 5 steps as I restarted the path Today. I particularly enjoyed learning about burnout through the slides, and I appreciated the distinction between good and bad leaders. Sometimes, it can be hard to recognize that we aren't the good leader we hope to be and to have the courage to change this. I also appreciated partaking and answering the questions on the quiz and felt that these reflections are necessary for leaders on 7 cups.
@Hope
Done! I've completed this path before and just did 5 steps again and it feels really nice and definitely helps with the feeling of burning out.
I’ve completed the first 5 steps on the burnout prevention path:
- Welcome
- What is Burnout
- Causes of Burnout
- What are the causes of Burnout that you can relate to?
- Path Structure Information
Going through these steps was a helpful reminder to stay mindful of my own limits and energy. It’s easy to forget how important self-care is, especially when we’re focused on helping others. Grateful that this resource exists 🌱
@SherifRiad
well said good luck with the Ldp.
@SherifRiad
I'm glad your attuned to your own needs of self care and are willing to put them in practice.
